Does anyone know if Emperor of the North Pole (aka Emperor of the North) is going to get a release anytime soon? (Under-rated 70s movie with Lee Marvin and Ernie Borgnine.)

I can only find it on VHS in the US. :(

As a fan of the movie, I would have noticed if there even a rumour of a dvd. But so far: nothing ...

There was a lovely widescreen anamorphic print of this shown on terrestrial UK TV a few months back, maybe someone taped it?

Maybe it's just a coincidence that the only person 'Cabbie' (Ernest Borgnine) is afraid of in Escape from New York is The Duke - aka "A Number One" :)

...I still have a PAL, P&S laserdisc of this memorable <a href="http://onfilm.chireader.com/MovieCaps/E/EM/03100_EMPEROR_OF_THE_NORTH.html">movie</a>... didn't think anyone even knew it existed... would be nice to have it come out on DVD...

Ah, it's a great flick - it'd be top of my list right now if it was out (after Kind Hearts and Coronets and Roman Holiday)

Yet more evidence that Robert Aldrich was the great underrated filmmaker of his generation. "Hustle" is also vastly undervalued in my opinion.

Fox's new R1 of Emperor of The North boasts what looks like a beautifully clean, colourful and sharp transfer after a quick run through; something of a surprise (I must have missed it in the specs) is a commentary by film historian Dana Polan - I've only dipped into it for a couple of minutes, but it sounds like a worthy extra.

For anyone who hasn't picked this up, it has just been released in the UK from Optimum. Not sure about the print quality, or bonus features, I can't find any listed. Play.com is the only place that seems to have it in stock - £9.99 delivered. I watched and reviewed the Fox American disc last month, I certainly rank this film in my cinema top 5 and highly recommend it to everyone: Emperor of the North (http://mondo-esoterica.net/Emperor%20of%20the%20North.html).

Note though that the UK disc has been cut by 3 seconds under animal cruelty legislation.

Yes, I forgot about that. If you want to see Lee Marvin swinging a chicken around, better go for the R1 disc.
