View Full Version : "Race with the Devil" (1975)
No, no DVD is coming out as far as I know, it's just I wondered if anyone has seen this movie recently.
I saw it first on the Beeb in the early '80s when I was about 10 & it certainly scared me then (and my mum too) -- so I have a certain sentimental attachment to it.
However, I suppose it's crud -- I'm sure it's been on telly fairly recently, maybe a few years back?
Not really much point to this post really, it's just I've been watching the M*A*S*H Season 2 disc & as Loretta Swit is in this also I fancied seeing it again.
Anyone think it's good/not good? Someone on Amazon.com says Tarantino pinched some dialogue from it & put it in From Dusk Till Dawn!
Last time I saw it it was a regular in the BBC2 Horror Double Bills that they used to show on Saturday nights - that must the fat end of 15 years + ago
I have a time-shifted VHS copy somewhere.
As I remember it, the film's not that good but is certainly worth seeing, if only because it stars the great Warren Oates ;)
Great film, though better on first watch than repeated viewings.
What happens to the dog is a bit nasty though.

when i was about 10 it was amazing, it was on about oh god maybe 8 years ago or something? and it was still worth watching and was pretty good, just seemed somewhat tacky.

Moviedrome was the last time I saw it; Warren Oates, Peter Fonda, a (largely) mute, nameless horror that just keeps coming, and a great ending - what is there not to like?
The very epitome of an Anchor Bay special, I think.

So many films, so little time...
Got all excited there....thinking a new lovely new special edition was on the way.
Here's hoping

Missed the HD screening of this on Sky tonight. Looks interesting, and a cracking cast. Anyone know when its on again?
No, but in the 5 years (!!!!) since the previous post, it's been released on a very good, and cheap, R1 DVD. (http://www.dvdpacific.com/item.asp?ID=653360)

Thanks - will give the R1 a miss, as I have to say the HD print looked lovely for a 30 year old film!

I bet it was screened uncut as well as the forthcoming UK dvd from Fox has been cut for animal cruelty during the snake in camper scene. The film has never been cut until now either on video or TV:-

These compulsory cuts get sillier. The 1936 Charge Of The Light Brigade will be butchered at the end if Warner submit it to the BBFC for dvd.BBC 2 have never cut it yet ,though they do remove the clifftop jump from Jesse James (1939) which killed the horse used.Unfortunately the law is the law though the BBFC did not really follow it till 1980 & Heavens Gate. Chicken cruelty has been censored from Emperor Of The North for dvd recently though the original cuts were for violence.
