For 24 hours at least, if Arsenal win tomorow or Liverpool on Monday then Spurs could be down to third.

Unbelievably it's Spurs best start to a season since 1967:eek: :oh-hum:
And on this day in the Premiership
2001/02: 16th P3 Pts2
2000/01: 11th P3 Pts4
1999/00: 08th P5 Pts9
1998/99: 14th P3 Pts3
1997/98: 07th P5 Pts7
1996/97: 09th P3 Pts5
1995/96: 18th P4 Pts2
1994/95: 06th P4 Pts9
1993/94: 09th P6 Pts10
1992/93: 21st P5 Pts3
I think the fixture calendar has been good to us this year, but with are next two matches being Fulham (away), West Ham (home) and Man Utd (away), I'm only expecting 3-5 pts.:|
Listening to five live yesterday I felt really gutted that Spurs were drawing with Southampton, no disrespect to Southampton fans, but if you're going to challenge for a UEFA cup place, you've got to be winning your home games.... especially given that Leeds had lost again earlier in the day.
Anyhoo, we'll enjoy being top while it lasts. Hopefully Arsenal and Liverpool both draw so we're up there for a further 10 days. Let's not get carried away though, I think Bolton were in this position after 4 games last year and look what 'nearly':D happened to them.
Still, it's a solid start towards a 6/7th place finish at the end of the season.:)

i can't see why we can't pick up 6/7 pionts n next 3 games man utd are the only real worry & they don't look as strong as they have been in the last few seasons.
d.boyd1uk
01-09-2002, 17:15
look at the players we have now, some real talent, i reckon we will pick up 6 points.
3 against west ham
3 against fulham
lose against man utd maybe draw.
The weekend get's better. Arsenal losing (I'd prefer a draw) and Patrik sent off. Top for another 24hrs.

A Tottenham thread?
http://www.clicksmilie.de/sammlung/wuerg/wuerg011.gif
yep - a Spurs thread, and about time too!
Very confident for the season now - we're playing well and have Keane to come in next time round.
Should make for an interesting season! Top 6 is deffo a realistic goal and, for once, teams might actually be a bit cautious about playing us.
We are top of the league, say we are top of the league :rocker:
We were top for a bit two seasons ago (I cut the table out of the paper:nuts: )
Yes the fixtures haven't been that challenging but I'm pleased because we've had similar fixtures and not been in the same position.
One of our weaknesses is that we'll go and beat a top 5 side then loose to some relegation contenders. When I heard it was 1-1 I thought "Bloody typical, we should have won this game but we've messed up as usual". To make things worse it always happens just when the result would really help us.
Not only that but all the results went our way. Leeds lost as did Everton and Man U and Arsenal and chelsea drew. All we need now is a draw from Liverpool.
As for our upcoming matches only Man U SHOULD give us problems. In previous seasons that would have meant loosing all 3 matches. Maybe it'll be different this time

hey, this thread is at the top of the sports forum
I was at WHL when we slaughtered them, but I thought it was 4-1 (I might be wrong, or thinking of another match...).
I recall it being early January, and they had that bald French defender on trial (?)
It was rather cool.....

  I predicted this would happen - it was inevitable.....
the minute they went top I said to a mate - you watch there'll be a thread all about Spurs on Saturday afternoon and how brilliant they are, now and forever more!
They will come from afar to follow the great light that shines above The Lane and lo they shall be relative newbies to this land and ye shall call them not lurkers but closet lurkers and the one known as 'father christmas' will ironically ring true to this 'Top of The Table Situation' and it will be deemed so because, success for the followers of King Herroddle, like 'father christmas' comes but once a year!
I'm extremely pleased with our start (obviously!), but it's not like I expect us to be there come May or anything! :D However, I think a top 6 finish is a perfectly reasonable goal....
I get your point though!

I rememeber that season clearly. In the league United were undefeated at home but away they lost to Spurs, Arsenal, Villa, Liverpool, Leeds and Southampton. United were simply awsome at OT and only coneded 9 goals in 19 matches there.
Not that you Spurs fans care. :D

Up where you belong is an amusing statement unless you were referring to 1961.
Even my Spurs season ticket holder friend [spit] says they don't deserve their place on top.
But at least London is leading the way...

that team from white hart lane hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha please calm down you know it`s nearly over and it is time for your trip down the league same as usual.
you have been a mediocre team for more years than i can remember, just call this a reality check.:) :) :)
........but the reality is that spurs are above everyone else! I seriously think that a lot of people have underestimated spurs squad this year due to all the old media tosh/**** take thats been thrown around, BUT take a good long look as you'll see that we've finally got depth to our squad!
Remember still that we are still without 1st team top class internationals like Carr, Ziege, Anderton and the very promising Ledly King!
Then also remember that Doc scored for Ireland and Keane was man of the match in an otherwise bad game.
Also that Davies was man of the match for wales having scored his 2nd blinder in 2 international matches and gaining critical aclaim from all that saw him.
Also that Acimovic was Slovenias man of match in their game against Malta(I know, but it was a Euro qualifier).
.
.
.
2 men to look out for this year are Gardner and the absolutely excellent Etherington(who'll be giving Ziege a run for his place).
I don't expect us to win the league, BUT I do believe that we'll surprise a great many people and it wouldn't surprise me at all if we sneaked a Champion League spot.
.
.
.
.
as you can see, like any spurs(and everton) fan I'm the eternal optomist.

He was out injured prior to the transfer window closing, so any move for him was never going to happen until January at the earliest. I'd love to him to play at the Lane. All in good time.:)
one of the old tarts i use to work with is shagging some fella from brightons reserve team(can't remember his name, but he's ginger and not really worth talking too), BUT he also claims that Bobby was on his way just prior to Taylor getting the boot. Then when I saw him up at WHL I just put 2&2 together(but got 7)
..........I was actually up there as its not too far and I had heard rumours of Crespo so thought I'd take a look for myself. Makes me wonder exactly what he was doing there though???? -sightseeing?

I prefer the Bolton result. I think the manner of the Fulham win is very amusing, especially after the three results from last season.
Finally spending a bargain £7m on Keane, then leaving him on the bench and making the two pensioners play the full 95 minutes is very funny unless you're a Spurs fan. It's as daft as making your £11m striker who turned out for France at the weekend play in the reserves whilst putting Barry Hayles on the bench.:D

YOU can't believe it, you should have tried watching us last season, the goal had become an abstract concept which appeared to get lost in the French language post modern intellectual team talks that the manager gave. I think one of the older British players has shown Tiggy the ancient British management talent of tea cup smashing.:D

This is where we all come to laugh at them.
i wonder what spurs we will see today ??
hopefully it will be the side that will try and play for 90 minutes instead of the team that think going in at half time a couple of goals up means they dont have to play in the second half!!
i think hoddle is great but i wonder what goes on in his mind sometimes,i mean when he was coach at southampton they were 3-0 against a lower league team and lost the same happened at tottenham man u and now fulham ,please can we have a team that dont stop playing until the whistle has gone no matter what the score!!! :D

The Tranmere game is a classic it still makes me smile today. How any team that can do that is languishing in the second division is a mystery. I don't think you can blame the manager. If he's 0-2 up at the half he's going to say more of the same please, it's the players who give up on the game by relaxing or getting too tense.

In the first half he had his back to goal too often and would have to drop deep or go out wide to try and get the ball. When he did get it he'd be seized upon by 2 of the hammers, so he had few chances to show what he can do, but in the second half.
As the game opened up, there was a lot more room for him to run at the defence and he caused their backline a lot of problems, earning us a penalty aswell. It's been a while since we've had a player upfront capable of causing such havoc.

The defence was caught sleeping a few times and that needs to be sorted out. Maybe when Ledley or Deano come back that will disappear from our game but it is a worry.
Still, with 11 players on the treatment table and in second spot, I can't fault that.
yeah, the defence was dodgy today, but a lack of general experience and/or understanding between the two centre backs (obviously Perry's experienced - I was thinking of Gardner!).
Antony Gardner is a great defender and a good prospect but he really needs a top, top class experienced centre back next to him to bring him along. Dean Richards will do. He can also look at Ledley's progress even though he himself is still young.
Gardner will work well in a three cos he'll have help at the back if he's caught. I'm sure he'll be superb in a couple of years.
Wasn't sure about Bunjevcevic in midfield though. Thought maybe him and Gardner would've been better in the centre of defence.
Gawd knows whether Glenn chose a 442 for this game alone. I assume we'll be back to the more usual 352 in the future. It certainly suits Ziege more, but maybe sacrifices Etherington (esp. when Poyet's back).
Still, three points, some good performances, and we're second.
Nice.

We've been 4-4-2 all season. That's why Etherington has managed to start in all six opening matches.
shows how close I've seen them then! In fairness, I've only ever caught highlights (mostly brief!), but got to see 'em properly today.
I'll be at the Lane in person in two weeks for the Boro game. Ashamed as I am, my first appearance at my clubs ground for a while!
I'm quite excited!
Kean had a pretty good debut, if he hadn't of been fouled it would have been a fantastic goal. Hopefully well get to see the real thing against Man U.
I don't think our defence was up to much though, should have done a lot better. I think zeige was partly responsible for one goal.

We've managed to get a lot of points without playing well, and with Keane hopefully a lot more goals which means more points without playing well. Forgetting Hoddle's dodgy second half call against Fulham we've gound out the results, and I can't wait 'till the team pull themselve's together and play the way they know they can.

I think they're working on building our archive up. The web site guys at Fulham are fabulous, they work really hard to make all sorts of stuff available and the site itself is excellent. A particular favorite of mine is the live commentary of games by the web site manager and a couple of others. They're biased as a fan should be and get really excited, it's a superb listen for the away matches.
Subscription to the site just allows access to the windows media files, and then you either stream it or download it. THTV isn't actually a channel with scheduling et al.

16 pts from 9 games, isn't as fantastic as our league position belies. In 93/94 we had 18 after 10 matches and still finished 15th!! Thankfully it seems that at the moment almost any team is capable of beating any other (Liverpool and Arsenal aside) and we need to capitalise on that now, while it lasts. Newcastle, Leeds and Chelsea have not yet hit their stride that I would expect them to, however they've had harder fixtures than us so far.
Mind you, our next match against Bolton at home we should win (sorry Mr Speed), as I'll be there.;) but after that we've got:
A Liverpool
H Chelsea
A Sunderland
A Arsenal
H Leeds United
If we can get 10/15 pts from those fixtures, we'll start December confident that we can maintain a Top 6 placing for he seasons end. I think it more realistic that we get just 7 points from those matches. Crucially those games will be looked at by potential transfer targets (in Dec/Jan) as a barometer for how successful we can be this year. So long as we win 2 or 3 and draw 1 or 2, we should still be on target to be there, or there abouts.
Last weeks result against Boro was a huge reality check to some. If there were any 'silver lining' at all, it'd be in the fact that there were about 11 or more potential first team players out injured. Surely they've all got to be fit soon. Thank god Keller was available after last weeks scare. He has been our player of the season so far imo.

If we can get 10/15 pts from those fixtures, we'll start December confident that we can maintain a Top 6 placing for he seasons end. I think it more realistic that we get just 7 points from those matches.
Where do you reckon the seven will come from? I can see three from Sunderland and possibly three from Leeds other than that I just see losses (I'm factoring in your record against Chelsea). Was today a good performance or were you a little lucky like us?

I wouldn't say I expect 7 points, but it's certainly achievable, and a realistic target to aim for. As it is, I was thinking along the lines of 6 from Sunderland and Leeds and a point against Chelsea.
Along with ourselves Boro, Fulham, Blackburn and maybe Man City will be the 'outsiders' chasing a Top 6 spot, but we've already lost to two of those and thankfully beat the other today.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got
win
draw
win

Giving us 9 points there. We could beat chelsea or leeds but I don't think we'd beat Arsenal even if it's a derby match. We should be aiming for those results. Knowing us we might end up with 3 points from that.

well i think we'll be lucky to get 6 from that more like 4 imo beat sunderland and hold chelsea.
IMO, we could conceivably:
draw
lose
win
draw
win
giving us 8 points from those matches.
but who knows - prolly best not to think about it and just let us get on with it!

Boro look like top 6 at the moment but I fear that you like us are have been flattered so far. Have you played any of the good blubs yet? We've only played Chelsea so I'm looking for a little slide soon (we have Utd next). Blackburn don't havewhat it takes either IMHO but them I'm biased as I can't stand them. :D

so what about bowyer coming to the lane :notworthy
Ste, it's no more than a rumour, albeit an exciting one. Certainly he looks to be leaving in the summer, even if Leeds try to offload him in january I think he'll turn the 'buying' club down, to wrangle more money as a free agent.
If Arsene wants him at Arsenal, then that's where he will end up, regardless of whether he supported Spurs as a kid. What player in his position wouldn't want to be playing at Highbury right now? Of course Mr Wenger may not wish to pay the wages or signing on fee for Lee, if he feels that he won't make it into the squad every week - and already Houllier opted out, for what appears to have been 'personal' reasons so Arsene may do the same. Then and only then, will Bowyer possibly nearly join Spurs. :D
It would appear he will be homeward bound for London, and even if Chelsea were to have a more attractive UEFA future for next season (first round exit to someother minnows;) ), I doubt they'll finance the deal, considering how much they're in the red already.... not that it ever stopped Real Madrid / Though a few European Cups negate that a bit.:)
Thursday is the night of the Tottenham Tribute Match. I've been undecided as to whether I'll go, but I don't think I will, as I'll be in London on Sunday for the Bolton game, and again on Monday for the Coldplay gig. All those Train tickets aren't cheap, and the Spurs - Leeds tickets go on sale on monday. Still, the line-up looks good though and I could still change my mind.
Hoddle & Waddle (the reason I followed Spurs) and Gazza & Ginola in midfield.... with Jurgen and Clive Allen up front. Let's not mention the defence.:D Mabs'll be there, and Gough would be a welcome addition. Shame Mr Lineker isn't turning out, but I suppose he wants to keep his 'pundit impartiality'.

yeah, I don't know meself, especially as it kicks off at the rather odd, if not on telly, time of 4.05!
I can only guess that it was gonna be on and they changed their minds but had to stick to the match arrangements for the teams, fans, etc.

Well I'm setting off now. I wouldn't have been able to go if it was yesterday, so I'm glad its today.
An easy three points I think. Apologies to Bolton fans, but it doesn't look too good this season so far apart from Old Trafford.
Charlton are 1-0 up against boro so it's going our way. 0-0 at half-time though :(

That exactly what happened to us last year although we had the added distraction of Europe. They always say that the second season is the harder one.
Bolton are always going to strugle, it's just the way it goes. You might go down for a few seasons or stay up for a bit. If you get some tasty youngsters coming through you might do something but smaller clubs are fighting against the odds.
As for Spurs:

H 3 Chelsea PREM. 14:00 [PP]
A 6 Burnley W.C. 19:45
A 10 Sunderland PREM. 16:05 [Skysports]

Ha! I don't fancy your chances :p
Back from the lane earlier, and our 100% record with at least 4 goals per game, when I'm in attendance continues.  (Though 3 of them have been against Bolton;) )
Great result, but it was a lot more nerve wracking and frustrating than the scoreline suggests. First half Perry was my man of the match, not that we were under pressure ever (far from it), but he was by far the most consistent player, doing what he was meant to do, well.... Everytime Bolton hooved it upfield he was there well before Ricketts, barring one occasion when he conceded a free kick. I never realised how 'big' Ricketts was until I saw him stand next to Chris. In all other departments though we had the majority of the ball, we were doing nothing with it.
Simon Davies barely featured in the first 45 minutes and Stevie Carr as would be expected took time to find his feet again. Etherington was even more ineffectual though. The ball was played out wide to him on the left on a number of occasions and in every case, barring one corner won, he conceded possession to easily. Either he would beat the first man only for his touch to be too loose to beat the second, or his delivery to the box was woeful. At half time I was preying Gus would be brought into the fold in his place. This didn't happen until about the 70th minute.
Second half, attacking the Paxton End (where I was seated) Carr and Davies worked well in tandem. The rest of the team noting this shifted play down this side far more regularly. When Simons bearing down on goal, it's a sight to behold and only Keano in the rest of the squad, can do this with real conviction. Too often the team passed sideways or back, no-one seemed to want to take on responsibility for an attack other than Davies, Keane and Etherington (to no avail). The first goal came just as the fans started to get restless with the wasted attacking opportunities we had, not that the lead lasted long.
I don't know much of Boltons goal. I seemed to turn my eye from the game for just a second and they had equalised, no doubt one of our players did the same. Bolton had come for the draw and now they looked like they would get it. They had only had one other good goal scoring opportunity (minutes before) and it was if we were contriving to let them have a share of the spoils, down to poor shooting, Teddy Sheringham take a bow, and gone was the defensive stability of the first half, as we pressed forward.
After Mattys substitution for Gus, we had more attacking options. Though he took up position on the left, it was a cross from the right that laid on the second goal. Finally a clever pass by Sheri (his best work of the day) set up Davies for a clinical finish. All in all we were worthy of the two goal margin, but I was never really confident that we'd end up with it.
On the plus side of things, it's another 3 pts and 3rd in the table. Redknapp and Stefan Freund, Football Genius looked solid in midfield. Davies and Carr linked well on the right, a la Neville and Beckham. Kasey again was assured, and Perry (first half at least) looks worthy of his place. Gus is back, and we will notice the benefit of his 9 game absence later on in the season when he's still fully fit (i hope).
Not quite as good was Bunje as left back. Played apart in the second goal, when he moved forward and more centrally but as makeshift cover he did alright. Similarly Matty was off-form today, as he has been a couple of times I've seen him play. However I'm sure with the right coaching he'll get better and better. And lastly Teddy could have, should have, had a hatrick today - whilst I know he's going to be instrumental in a number of games in the future, I can't wait until the January window and maybe he's rested - if that's not against any clause in his contract.;)

oh that's not too bad a result is it. If the only difference between Liverpool and Spurs at the mo is a 86th minute penalty, I'll accept that. Liverpool are one of the leading contenders for the title and we're now a full fledged member of the leading pack, as borne out by todays result IMO!
Shame we couldn't hold on, but I'm not disappointed. Not seen the footage, but Sir Glenn said he was impressed with the boys.
Well done.
Well we failed to end the hoodoo again, but how that match ended 0-0 I've no idea. Though the 3 points didn't come our way, we did still pick up the one and more importantly the performance was their to warrant our current position in the league.
Critics of our early season lofty table positon, had stated that we hadn't played any of the top teams; Rodney Plonker Marsh in particular. What's with that guy?:brickwall Well take a look at the table, because I'm told it doesn't lie and you'll see that we've played 6 of the other 7 current Top 8 clubs. Only in the Boro match we're we truly outplayed on the park.
We put in great performances against both Liverpool and Man Utd away, and should have earned ourselves 2 points - the luck that I hear we have in abundance wasn't there. The same in yesterdays match, if it wasn't for finding Cudicini in The Cat-like form we'd have bagged a win. Thankfully unlike last season when we played well at Anfield and the like but still lost, we then went on to lose to the Southamptons and Charltons aswell. This years team is a considerable improvement on lasts and even though we've not yet had a full first XI fielded, the attitude and belief instilled in those that do take to the pitch, has raised the bar on what we can expect from the season overall.
I'm still trying to keep my optimism in check (From the start I've believed 6th or 7th our likely finishing position), but suddenly that 4th Champions League spot isn't so unachievable after all. Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd? They're miles ahead of us. Chelsea, Newcastle, Leeds (pah!:D) not so. At the minute I'd say Chelsea for the 4th spot as their away form has been very good, but don't be surprised to see an outsider like Blackburn, Boro and ourselves still challenging from the UEFA riches come April/May.
Finally, there's a lot of rumour at various Villa websites (nothing mentioned in the Spurs ones) that Alpay will be 'Lane bound' in January. I won't object to that if it were to be true.
I'd say we are more than capable of a top 6 finish, but I'm not getting ahead of myself and saying any higher than 5th or 6th, but a decent run and anything's possible! :)
We played superbly yesterday and it was very frustrating not to get all three points - not only do I think we deserved them, it would have been great to end the curse of Chelsea. Well done to Cudicini though - top keeper and he saved them a point.
Alan Parry doing the commentary on PPV - 'I think a draw is a fair result' - :brickwall
Sir Jamie Redknapp was immense, Dean Richards likewise, and Sheringham and Keane looked great up front.
Looking forward to the rest of the season!

Do Spurs play 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 ?
If it's 3-5-2 you dont want Alpay as he looks all over the place in a back 3 .4-4-2 and for £4 mil he is a bargain if Hoddle can get the best outa him unfortuantly he hasnt played well for Villa for over a year(due mostly to injury it has to be said)

We played 3-5-2 last season under Hoddle but this year it's been 4-4-2. I'm not sure that this isn't only because of the injuries though, and yes as you say £4m would be a bargain. Let's wait and see though.

hahaha, just what i would expect from a spurs fan just been beat by us. Luck? i think we deserved 3 or 4 clear goals in the 2nd half, the luck was on your side not ours!
You wish mate! I'd much prefer it if you were truely better because it's harder to see your team play so badly.
Look at your goals,
the first was a terrible ball by us followed by a deflection that took it away from keller
the 2nd was just poor defending by us
Iversens header could have gone over the line but didn't
Iversen could have scored if he hadn't given up the chase. We got a free kick for a back-pass but it's not the same
Iversen could have scored if he hadn't "heard" the ref blow for off-side.
Keane could have scored if he wasn't trying to nochalantly flick it past the keeper
Keane could have scored if he went around the keeper instead of chipping it into his hands
keane could have scored if he took his time instead of hitting an early shot.
Keane could have scored if he had hit the ball slightly either side of the keeper (but it was a fantastic shot anyway)
I think it shows you were incredibly lucky. If we had a bit more luck then it may have been 5-0 or more. Like I said, I'm not knocking you, you probably played much better than normal but denying you were lucky is just blinkered/wishful thinking.

Except it was qualification for Europe, and a Top 6 place is by no means certain. Judging by Glenns angry reactions to the performance, after the match, he obviously viewed this competition very importantly. The fact that he rested some players just meant that he could rest a couple and bring in some of the 'new back to fitness' players. With the XI selected we should have won but we didn't and neither did we deserve it.
Well done Burnley. :(

That's my point. You were lucky that we didn't put them away. We were unlucky that we didn't put them away.
I only remember one occasion when you had a scoring chance and messed up.
Am I a bad loser? In a way yes. I'm extreamly annoyed that we performed so badly. In the same way you could be a bad winner, you won't admit that you won because we were bad. Do you think we play like that all the time?

I've visited the site a couple of times, mainly during the 'Morientes' affair. During the 'transfer deadline' night, I had about 5 different Spurs sites opened at once, waiting.... hoping.... for any breaking news.

i know what you mean :(
apparently an 'inside source' leaked out that a deal was virtually done so we ran with it but it turned out to be a load of rubbish :/
Sadly only 2 results went anywhere near our way today. ManU loosing and Blackburn dropping 2 points. Newcastle and Arsenal's draw didn't make too much difference.
We have to win tomorrow to keep up the pace.

sunderland 0 spurs 2 .
there you go sundays result, keane & poyet
3-1 tottenham, keane to score 1st and get 2, and steve carr
yep, should be an away victory for us. We've got such a good record against Sunderland and I can't see that changing.
We've got our players back from the *ahem* midweek match - Redknapp, Freund, Teddster, etc. - should be too strong for Sunderland, although they may be on a high after knocking the Scum's second string team in the week.
Not a massive victory, but I'll be glad for the three points - I'll got 1-0 Spurs (and hopefully a Keane goal for my fantasy team!)

Carr?? Maybe Davis or poyet.
I just hope we get Ziege and King back, they're 2 of our best players.
that was possibly the worst I have EVER seen us play - we were truly abysmal and didn't deserve anything against a crap team.
Glenn's gotta sort them out cos they played with no passion, desire, or ability!
So, who have we got next? oh yeah, the Gooners - great! :oh-hum:
we are gonna get slaughtered...

How right you were but it's nice to hear that Campbell got sent off today :) Shame I missed the footage.
We really really need to win tomorrow.
yep - extremely funny to hear that as I was watching the scores come in on Sky Sports 1! :D
ain't seen the footage myself yet either, although I do have it on tape.
I've ordered the match for tomorrow - I have a pretty good feeling about it to be honest. Leeds are not playing well at all, and we're getting well on the way back to full strength.
Come on you Spurs!

crossing my fingers, we haven't played really well lately, time for win, we have played all the top teams in the last few weeks, we should be hungry for a win now. :)

hard game today both us & leeds could do with the pionts, spurs win 3-2.don't care who scores as long as we
win.
Setting off shortly. Don't worry lads, I haven't let us down yet.
yep - well done! keep the 'inverse jinx' up please!
I'm prolly gonna go to the Everton game early next year so put your bets on the Toffeemen!
Great first half performance today, esp. considering Redknapp and Davies were on the bench. Excellent goals too (Keano!! :D)
Should we all chip in to buy Mr Moby a season ticket? Money well spent potentially.

 2-0 what a great result.
Class goal by Keane :notworthy
West Brom. A Must win if we want that UEFA spot.
Class build up for keanes goal. I think they were spot on when they said he's a player that overthinks. Shame about the 2nd chance, another great move and unlucky it bounced so high.
Our seasons gone to pot though which is dissapointing given our early performances.
Good result but we were terrible. Can't believe we got Southampton in the FA Cup that the girlfriends team. So it looks like my girlfriend and her dad down one end of the ground and me at the other

Sad Sad Day :oh-hum:
I have just purchased a Manchester United football kit for my son, he thinks David Beckham is brilliant :notworthy (I bet most kids do).
could be worse, he might have had some unnatural attraction to Thierry Henry or anyone else from The Library!! :D
No kids for me (yet), but a son in my future will have very little choice over the team they WILL support!!!
d.boyd, you're indoctronation techniques clearly leave a lot to be desired
I know how this guy feels (http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,3604,853253,00.html) :oh-hum:

indoctronation......................indoctrination
Have you swallowed dictionary or what, anyway looked on the online dictionary and you have spelt it wrong ;)
It's not the team he supports, it's just Beckham, he is only 5, so I thought I would get him one, He has also got a Spurs Kit :D
£29.99 for the full kit, good price if you ask me, from the official Man Utd site.
Perhaps he might be a happier person if he supports utd
Happy? When has happiness got anything to do with football!
I don't know, at 5 you may have lost him already :(

i have been going to spurs since i was 9,my sons 3 he has had all the spurs kits since he was born,i would be gutted if he ever supported another team, then again all my faimly are gooners.
Great performance today. Shame the result wasn't as much as we deserved. Still, it fills me with renewed optimisim for the rest of the season ahead.
yeah, I agree, although I think we played out of our skins because of who the opposition was. I'm concerned that our next game away to Man City will see us go back to old ways.....
Mind you, that's not an easy place to get anything so I'd be happy if we grind out a point - all three would be a top result.
Should be interesting to see how we play on Boxing Day against Charlton at home.
Woohoo. I'm going to miss Maine Road, we've always done well there in the history of the premiership, though we've always done well against Man City period. That's our 8th win out of 11 premiership encounters I think.
Back up to 7th now.
We should beat Charlton at home on Thursday but I reckon Everton,Chelsea,ManU,Arse and Newcastle will all win. If we catch a break though we could go 4th but then we have a tough match on sunday at St James park
I thought you looked good last night. Not much possession, but it was a good away game strategy. You look a lot more like scoring than lots of teams at the moment (like Liverpool for example). In fact, I think all the London Prem clubs are good to watch at present - unlike quite a few more northern clubs.
agreed Bick - deffo on 'away match mode', but it bloody worked wonders! :D Mind you, Citeh can't defend for toffee which worked heavily in our favour.
The away match at Newcastle will be difficult, but we did 'em last year up there so fingers crossed.
C'mon you Spurs!

Bring on charlton,i can't see us dropping any points on boxing day as our home form is very good this season.Newcastle away will be a very hard game won 2-0 (i think) last season up there but would be happy with a draw.Southampton away will be a hard game i don't think they have been beat at home this season and we have to play 2 games in a week there, just as long as we win the cup game i will be more than happy.
Apparently Baardsen is on his way to everton. Maybe he'll be playing against us when we play them next month!
Fixture list is very interesting for the next week or so.
29/12 Arsenal - Liverpool
29/12 Newcastle United - Tottenham Hotspur
01/01 Newcastle United - Liverpool
01/01 Arsenal - Chelsea
12/01 Tottenham Hotspur - Everton
Apparently Hoddle has 12points from 12 against ex-england managers this season which bodes well for the Newcastle match

I think I'd rather have 3 straight league wins than passage to the 2nd round of the cup. 9pts allied with last nights 3, would be a good xmas gift for me.... not that it ever works out like that.
Yeah, normally it's 3 from 12
Maybe this season will be different. Things aren't going to form this year
Just a draw then, however having been 2 down with only 30 minutes remaining, I guess I can settle for that result. It was good to see us really attacking Charlton with purpose right up to the last seconds of the game though. With Chelsea not winning and Newcastle still trailing by two it means we've not lost ground on the UEFA hunt, albeit we've not really made any either.
Was it just a coincidence that Teddy had left the pitch and we seemed to be playing with a pace and urgency about us? I know we won't have a lot of cash with which to spend in the forthcoming transfer window, but our priority really should be on finding a young pacey striker (with a good first touch) to partner Keano. Failing that I'll settle for Kevin Phillips at a cost of no more than £4m.
Just sell Les for 500k or less, let Deadwood go on a free, whatever, just drop the wage bill and bring in the type of player(s) we need.

How's about Ziege eh? What felt like a dead leg to start with turned out to be internal bleeding in his thigh and he had to have career saving (not to meantion leg saving!) surgery. :shocker:

He still better get his last red card overturned. But seriously it's a shocking case, which by the sounds of it was caught just in time. He could have lost his leg, let alone his career.
Thankfully he's ok, well as ok as he can be given the situation, and hopefully he gets well soon. Barring the World Cup final, he's had a terrible year.

Okay barring the 10 inch long incision on his thigh which was left open to let the blood drain out!

You've got that one right... he only recently came back from injury as well, and had been superb. We definitely missed him today, and it looks likely he'll be out for the rest of the season.. but thank god he's going to be ok.
Jeez! Just read about this on our official website - shocking stuff!
Poor bloke, one injury after another this season. He's been superb when he's there too.
Glad he should be ok though of course...

His mother died recently as well.:(
Sorry guys, couldn't get tickets for the home game against Everton (Sold Out), would have been a good three points to get aswell.
However fear not, I should be at the home game against Newcastle later next month, and any possible Fa Cup reply with Southampton.
Never mind moby, we'll just continue our slide down the table if it's alright with you :oh-hum:
Don't fret camaj. We've only been outside the Top 8 twice this season, there's plenty to be hopefull about.
We might even nearly sign Morientes on loan.;)

Outside the top 8! You make that sound acceptable :nono: For a team who was top at one stage 8 is pretty bad considering the points we've thrown away

No, but we've hardly reached the 'end of the world' form you seem to imagine. Have a little faith in GHod.;)
Not the end of the world by any stretch (see Liverpool, leeds and WHU) but there's a certain standard we need to attain and we're not doing it even though we're capable.
yeah we definately need a top class striker the last couple of games we have played well but we never look like we are going to score !!! we need someone that is consistantley going to score 25-30 goals a season instead of the 14 goals ferdi scored last season (top scorer what a joke)

Not seen this thread in a while. Didn't have the heart to 'bump' it up, until now.:(
How do you all think we'll do tomorrow (remembering that I didn't get a ticket) and how do you the see the state of affairs at White Hart Lane now, a week after going out of the FA Cup?

Dont have a good feeling about this, we are now starting to play the Spurs i know and love, badly. Horrible feeling they'll beat us, said we were to optimistic looking for a Euro spot this year:(

I think our last home match on a Saturday was against Boro (Y'know, the team that have only scored 4 goals on their travels in the league this season - three of them against us!!) in September!!
It's not like we're even in Europe!! (or ever likely to be, any time soon).
I think it's just been a the case that either our 'scheduled' saturday home games have been against teams with 'European' competition days earlier, or our home games have been selected for Sky/Pay per view coverage. I know that this has upset a huge section of our home support but if all games were on Sundays, I could get a 'season ticket'.
Fear not though, we've got a saturday home game against Sunderland, on February 8th!!!
A win would really make me feel better. We'd be level on points with Liverpool and 1 point behind Rooney and Beatie
woo hoo! nice one lads - awful defending, but as long as we score more than the opposition, I don't mind.
It's like watching Barcelona! ;)
KEANO THERE'S ONLY ONE KEANO
its my son's 9th birthday today and for his present i got him a spurs shirt with keane on the back, and in his card i said, let's hope robbie can get a hat-trick today.if only i could have gone down the bookies with such optimism! anyway my son's well pleased, especially as we lost to ipswich on his birthday last year.
