View Full Version : Prom Night (and other films for Halloween)
Been looking out movies for a mate's Halloween bash (yes, I do realise it's only September!) but realised I didn't have "Prom Night" :shocker:
Anyone know if it's gonna get re-vamped and re-issued?
The original Anchor Bay disc was pretty crap and I can't seem to find it being sold anywhere!
oh, also on a related note - I've not seen "My Bloody Valentine" - is it worth a look? (The dvdfile review seems to give it a reserved thumbs up).

Carrie is a great halloween bash film, there's scary bits, nudity, fabulous 70s fashion, and john travolta before he was remotely cool (then a dud then cool then a dud...)
and the "rink! rink!" effects whenever Carrie goes off are great in 5.1 :)
The S.E is only <a href="http://www.playserver3.com/Play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=94345">£8.99</a>.
I'm in the planning for a halloween cinemarama as well...

At the time of classification BMG Video was the holder of the rights or the brand name for this work
Wide Screen This work also distributed by Braveworld Ltd Embassy Home Entertainment
"When submitted to the BBFC the work had a running time of 88m 53s.
This work was passed with no cuts made. "
Thanks, pj! I should've had a look-see at the bbfc!
So does anyone have this release and have any comments about it at all?
If its Halloween you gotta Have at Least one Friday the 13th movie. I'd get either part 6(My Fave) or Part 4.
some others worth considering.
AN American Werwolf in London
Childs Play
Creepshow
Tales From the Crypt Season 1
Hell Night is also a great halloween film. Although it does fall under the "So bad it's good " category. Just don't go expecting Carrie or The shining hehe.

Well to be fair...'Halloween' is a pretty good film for Halloween don't you think?
Aside from that, 'Tales From The Crypt: Season 2' makes it out just before Halloween, so you could fire it up and do an all day job.
Maybe I need to edit this thread a bit! :D
It's from 2002 people!
I was merely asking about the current UK R2 release of "Prom Night" in this thread (which must've been released since I started this thread originally) instead of starting another one! ;)

It was hoping someone might have seen it also. I might have chanced it but it's a bit pricey and Play.com are listing a 4-film Prom Night box set coming on R2 in the autumn. I remember liking Prom Night 2: Hello Mary Lou as a teenager.
Prom Night 2: Hello Mary Lou.
Best. Tagline. Ever.

If anyone's still interested, I picked up the R2 Prom Night in a Virgin 3 for £20 sale - oh how such sales drain my bank account and fill my shelves with crap. The disc is 1.85:1 anamorphic and 2.0 Mono. Picture is okay, not exactly great even for a 1980 release but acceptable IMO. Main visual problem seems to be that much of the film was shot in soft focus, like parts of Carrie, and the DVD doesn't cope too well with that, cue grain and artifacts. When there's a cut to a sharply filmed scene (the scenes with the teenagers are filmed "soft", those with the killer "sharp"), the picture suddenly improves jarringly. The sound seems fine. I haven't watched the film but what I've seem appears suitably crap in a fun 80s slasher kind of way.

This probably can be moved to the Classic forum....
But does anyone care to comment on which version of Prom Night to get...
