View Full Version : Ben Folds Live album!
Wow! Pre-ordered from Play, not out till Monday - turned up this morning, TWO DAYS EARLY... And just one word - AMAZING!
Saw him live on the One Man And A Piano tour - and am happy to report that this CD is a great way to preserve the memory. Haven't checked the bonus DVD out yet, but happy enough to just listen to "Not The Same" and hear hundreds of people sing in three part harmony!!!:) Amazing to listen to, and amazing to be a part of as well... We were better than the peeps on the CD if I do say so tho... :D
Any Ben Folds fans will love it straight away, any fans of music should really check it out as well, you may be surprised. And you have to admire a guy who can tour with just a piano and still inspire a crowd.

Tsk, mine didn't turn up. Blinking Irish sea. Still, hopefully something to look forward to on Monday. Never heard any of his stuff live before, so looking forward to giving this one a spin.

I got it in my local indie record shop, I wasn't planning on buying it but the limited edition DVD tempted me too much.

I'm in Belfast, guess mine was sent a bit earlier.
This is becoming a Norn Irn Bed Folds Fan thread.

Anyone having problems with the DVD? A few people on the Folds boards seem to have problems with the R1 Play copies (despite having multi region players) - is it RCE?

I got mine from Play yesterday and it seems to be fine, but my player should be RCE compatible, have never tested it as AFAIK none of my dvds so far are RCE

Not tried the DVD yet but the albums great! What a wonderful memento of the gigs. I have to agree with MarcW also - i'm sure we were better than the audience on the CD :D :rocker:
Which gig/s were you at - I went to Birmingham, Manchester and the 2nd London date - the Manc audience did something totally unexpected with the Not The Same singalong at the end, singing the "You were not the same after that" bit unlike on the DVD and as far as I know any other gig he's done it at! Sorta confused Ben as he didn't know how to end the song!
Went to the Manchester one, and yes, I had noticed the "You were not the same after that" wasn't on the DVD "singalong"...
I guess that makes the night even more unique then... Wanted to go see him in London as well but couldn't get tickets. :( Hope he tours again soon.

Our Army singing was better if I do say so myself ;) (Shepherd's Bush)
Pretty good bootlegs tho!
Ben.

Well you can count me in as well seeing as I'm from Norn Iron and like Ben Folds Five :)
Though I dont actually own any albums yet, just what I have dl from the net. Which is a bet of a crime since their stuff is quality. Must get me arse down to the shops :p
Chillster76, for the next five minutes you can be my new personal hero! Great spot!!! Just started dl'ing them now.
Ok, that's your five minutes up. Off to find another personal hero... Hey, it's not much of a life but it'll do. ;)
i went to the second night in london and it was amazing although there were way too many aussies and yanks in the crowd. I also seen ben folds in Australia last year in a pub called the prince charles in St. Kilda in Melbourne. There was onl about 200 people there and it was class. He let some of the crowd come up and play piano and guitar on some of the songs. The man is a genius.

Gonna resurrect this thread - as an aspiring Ben Folds fan - what stuff would you guys recommend me listening to 1st? He's been highly recommended and I'm kinda on the look out for some new stuff...
BTW - I'm from Norn Iron as well....:dork:

Get all the Ben Folds Five albums except maybe Naked Baby Photos as that is just a comp (get it after you get the rest). But i must say, i think his solo album is absoluite class and showed that this is just the start for Mr Folds. Long may he reign (except when he cancels gigs after i've travelled to New York to see him :nono: )

Touring with Tori Amos in the US. Would like to go over and see that... damn you, money!
I'd probably avoid the "Reinhold Messner" album as well if I were a new fan - it's a little experimental in places and it might put you off...
Get the first BFF album if you can find it - by far the best, then check out "Whatever and Ever Amen", another class CD... :)
On another note amcanally, yes - I have tried a VTEC! :D Another fellow Honda owner I assume? S2000 by any chance?

Just kidding, it's a 14yr old well loved mk 2 CRX - will be mine until either one of us die.
Honda's eh? Gotta love'm!
Thanks everyone for the pointers - will be having a look through HMV tomorrow....before buying on-line:nuts:

Are you mad? Reinhold Messner is by far the best Ben Folds Five CD to get!!!
Yup, this week I have been mostly hatstand.
So you really liked the album? With the possible exception of "Army" I thought the rest was pretty unmemorable. No catchy hook lines or anything, a big departure from the previous albums and not one I thought worked. It seemed like an album for an album's sake... And it was...
Just my 2p worth though. I'm sure lots of other people liked it - but I didn't.

I have to agree with Spudman, its my favourite aswell. Especailly 'Narcolepsy' and 'Lullabye'.
Take a spade and dig this baby up from 2003!!!!
Just listening to this album tonight after only picking it up a couple of months ago.
I've listened to it a few times and have all his other BF5 and solo stuff and live recordings so I just got to this one a bit late...
The more I think about it,the more I feel that Ben Folds is my favourite male singer in recent years.
As you can tell by my threads I'm mostly a fan of female singers but I love Bens work and will probably end up outside his next London gig looking for a ticket!
The reason I love the Trachtenburg family is probably because their album sounds slightly Ben Folds ish with female backing.
Anyway looking forward to his next material (I've got the ep with the Darkness cover)...
