View Full Version : Sid and Nancy from Play - comes with the book?

I know the answer's probably a definite "no", but to anyone who's ordered it recently, does the R2 edition of Sid and Nancy from Play.com come with the 64-page book?

All the ones in HMV do, but they'll cost me a tenner (plus £2 bus fare there and back and another film for £10), as opposed to £5.99 (from the comfort of my own chair right here).

I'd have thought you would have the Criterion Narshty...

I do, but Alex Cox is nowhere to be seen on it, and I want the director's views (and an anamorphic transfer).

Was the booklet a limited thing then?

I presume so.

Most of the "Directors Chair" discs no longer come with the books. Sid And Nancy is also currently out of stock

Well, thanks Bish, but I was hoping for something a tad more concrete than speculation. :)

In any case, if anyone has a copy of the above going spare (with book), feel free to answer this thread (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=161512).

Sorry, I'm off work tomorrow so I'll contact every supplier and get a definitive answer for you

BTW my info was based on several people I know who have recently bought new DC titles and not “speculation”

I bought the "Directors Chair" edition of The Elephant Man from Play recently and that didn't have the book with it. It may be worth spending the extra at the HMV just to make sure you get it.

Not exactly what you wanted to hear, I know, but I think Bish is right when he says most of these titles no longer include the books.

So if you've found one, snap it up.

Well, no offence was meant, but my question was a very specific one, and I am currently aware of the dwindling supplies of the Director's Chair books and believed I indicated as much in my first post.

In any case, thanks for your help. :)

But as it's now out of stock there's no guarantee that the next batch will have it. Can't you check with them first before you order it?

Might be worth checking out (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=2049748#post2049748) your local WHS if you've got one. ;)

I'll take my chances, Bish. :D

If it was released over two years ago and both Play and HMV had copies with books in as recently as a few weeks ago, the odds are stacked in my favour (probably...hopefully...) ;)

I thought you only bought one version of a movie? I don't have the Crit, but the R2 S & N is great, particularly since my new player doesn't have layer changes (the disc had the most annoying I'd seen). The person responsible had tried to place it well, after the performance of My Way, but he was an annoying few seconds out.

Anyway, two words: Eureka's Nosferatu.

Well, I don't want my Criterion to get worn out - same with Spinal Tap - and there is still some good stuff on the disc (even if it's more from a historical perspective than a cinematic one).

Out of curiosity, do/did all Director's Chair DVDs come with a booklet? Can anyone actually confirm the list of movies they released (from DVDfever):

Angel Heart
Sid and Nancy
The Cotton Club
Jacob's Ladder
Chaplin
The Elephant Man
King of Comedy
The Doors
The Producers
The Sure Thing
Manhunter

Been looking around, and didn't find booklets in Elephant Man or Graduate. All the Sid and Nancy's I found had a book. Couldn't find the others or do a region comparison...

The Elephant Man and The Graduate both came with a book, as did Manhunter.

Nice enough to read once - there's a good interview with Brian Cox in the Manhunter book - but nothing that you can't find elsewhere. Most of The Elephant Man seems the same as what's in "Lynch On Lynch".
