It seems that Hollywood is getting a lot of its inspiration from the east. Another Asian remake that Hollywood is going to tackle is "The Eye" (directed by the Pang Brothers).

The Eye IMO isn't a patch on the excellent Ringu, however it's still a creepy 90mins or so. AFAIK, as well as Ringu, another Asian movie to be remade is Hitman (starring Jet Li).

"After the great success of The Ring Hollywood decided to take another swing at bringing another Japanese film to the rest of us."

Its not like the Japanese were keeping it all to themselves.

I thought the end of The Eye had already been remade as the beginning of Final Destination 2 already :D

Haven't seen FD2 myself - just heard the scenes were set in the same type of locations - don't really think that gives any plot away.

If you really want me to hide it - you could tell me how to do a spoiler and i'll secrete it away asap.

write [*SPOILER*] (REMOVE the *'s) at the beggining of the spoiler text and [*/SPOILER*] (again, remove the *'s) at the end of the spoiler text.

Thanks for the tip - hope I didn't ruin anyone's enjoyment - but I should imagine if you are reading this thread - you will have already seen the excellent film The Eye anyway - and therfore know how it ends.

Long time no thread bumpage!

Indeed Alba has taken the role - and indeed, the (very pop promo) trailer is up...

Must say I'm not a Jessica Alba fan one bit (unlike the gorgeous Angelica Lee of the original), but I digress. Another day, another remake - Ho hum..:|

I have never seen the eye, is it a japanese horror?

Well it's a Cantonese production, but if your even vaguely fond of Asian horror, then it's certainly worth checking out; It's certainly one of the better Asian horrors out there.

It's on tartan films, and quite cheap to pick up now..

The trailer doesn't look that bad. They have really taken ages to make this remake if the first post is from 2003.

Don't look too bad from the trailer, alba is tidy so I'll watch it anyway.

Pfft, looks like a scene-by-scene remake too. What's the point? (apart from Alba ;) )

Loved the original - the hospital corridor and STOP SITTING IN MY CHAIR! scenes were brown-trouser-tastic.

I thought the original was great for the first hour; scariest scene for me was the one with the

old man in the lift.

I'll skip the remake because it's pointless, and Alba is as vacant and untalented as they come these days; a poor substitute indeed for Angelica Lee.

Saw this the other night and thought it was ok. Haven't seen the original so can't really compare.

Reminded me of The Ring for some reason.
