So one mans opinion means this is gonna be a return to form does it :suspect: If you are that trusting in other peoples opinions I'm quite worried for you.

Sorry I've just heard exactly the same 'reports' prior to every Metallica album release in the past 10 years.

Hmm, sounds interesting. I hope it isn't just heavy for the sake of being heavy though (to prove critics wrong).

This quote made be laugh though, and the guy is obviously a real fan-boy :dork:

"the most incredible thing that's happened in music history"

Come on man, don't make a fool of yourself.

All i ask for is some kick-ass Hammett guitar playing and i'm a happy chappy in a tacky nappy.

This album will epitomise mediocrity. Metallica should have called it quits 10 years ago rather than continue on and tarnish their reputation. :p

Hammett should have acted like a true legend by doing one of the following –

a) Overdosing on drugs
b) Blowing his own brains out
c) Disappearing in mysterious circumstances.

:D

 that smiley doesn't do justice to what i'm thinking.

You saying they haven't written one decent song in the last 10 years? If they have then surely it's worth it for that one song?

What about S+M? that was pretty novel for the band and a huge success if i'm not mistaken.

They've written a handful of pretty good songs since then but nothing brilliant and certainly not enough to fill an album. I don't remember the last time I listened to anything Metallica have done in the last 10 years.

S&M was a good idea but a bit of a hit and miss affair. Anyway it's hardly an earth shattering idea when you consider Therion had been working with a symphony choir for a few years before Metallica did S&M and they've been fantastic.

Couldn't agree more. I reckon they need all the help they can get as far as the new album goes.
For a band that once led the way the past 10 years hasn't been very kind to be honest.

Here's hoping for a decent album :)

Also...

Yesterday we finished work on our tenth album (eighth studio album) titled "St. Anger." We are looking forward to sharing the new music with the world June 9th in Europe, June 10th everywhere else.

Produced by Bob Rock, the album was recorded at our San Rafael Headquarters. In addition to the eleven tracks on 'St. Anger,' the package will include a free DVD of live rehearsal recordings of all eleven songs, also captured at HQ.

Here are the eleven official song titles, clocking in at just over 75 minutes:

Frantic
St. Anger
Some Kind of Monster
Dirty Window
Invisible Kid
My World
Shoot Me Again
Sweet Amber
Unnamed Feeling
Purify
All Within My Hands

Artwork is now being finalized . . . details coming soon. Watch this space for more info . . .

Cant wait for this, huge Metallica fan here, looking forward to seeing them live again (although not at a damn festival thanks). Have to say I agree with a few of the comments about Load and Reload, I like them but for what could have been great albums they were missing something. I'd rate an album by Warrior Soul who toured with Metallica in europe Last Decade of a Dead Century really bettered anything Metallica then released after. Loved it on release and still listen to it on my mini disc player on the way to work now. Just out of interest the only Metallica minidisc I listen to is a compilation of Master of Puppets and And Justice for All. Oh and no it doesnt bother me copying my cds onto minidisc because I've bought the vinyl, then the special edition vinyl 2 lps in the case of Master of Puppets and then the cds, let alone the 12ins and the spec edition 12ins, I've got about six editions of some songs I think they have had enough money out of me................... and I've seen them 10 times aswell. Metallica ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:notworthy

The problem here (I'm guessing) is that a lot of guys here (myself included) grew up with Metallica through the Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets era, went to see them at Donington, stood in front of a mirror headbanging to the Four Horsemen, had patches on there denims, had posters of Kirk Hammett on their walls, dreamed of owning an ESP, sat down on an evening to learn impossibly difficult solos, watched as the rivalry with Slayer unfolded, were slightly dissapointed with And Justice For All but stuck by them as it may have just been a bad patch.

And then watched on helplessly as one of their favourite bands, overnight, turned into a shameless stadium rock band that your parents didn't mind listening to. The worst thing for me was that Jason Newsted was a part of it (apart from the excellent Garage Days EP) as Flotsam And Jetsam were a favourite of mine, now even he's totally redeemed himself in my eyes.

Point is, it'll suck a large one in our opinion, but thats all it is, an opinion. Personally I dont even want to hear it.

Well none of that really apllies to me as I was only a couple of months old when Ride the Lightning was released. :D

Yes, they became more commercial and radio friendly, but they've never become a band your parents listen to - try Bon Jovi or Def Leppard.

My parents like Metallica, in fact i find it very hard to find music, particularly with my Mother, they don't like.

Hip parents, who'd have 'em, ? :D

I'm a parent who listens to Metallica, saying that I also listen to Necrophagia, Satyricon, Emperor, The Haunted, so sadly in my opinion the parent debate doesn't work. I will also agree with most people on here that Load and Reload were rubbish, but I will still give the new album a chance, even though Lars has become the sort of person he used to take the ****** out of.

I mean as in parents above 50, as mine and all of my friends are. Of course parents in their forties and thirties would like them, as they were in their teens and twenties when Metallica were in their heyday.

They've lost their way, but I highly doubt parents would listen to that music! Unless they liked their 80s stuff. Stadium rock band? WTF!
