Any Bollywood fans got Sholay on DVD? Does it have any extras or is it just the movie?

Im thinking, is worth me getting a very cheap VCD (cost to me, less than a quid) of this movie or go the whole hog and buy the DVD, which is likely to me more than a tenner?

No extras.

There are two versions available on DVD:

Eros/DEI - Theatrical Cut
Eros/B4U- Director's Cut

I have the director's cut. Quick thoughts below:

Sholay 4/5

Many claim Sholay (aka Flame) to be the greatest Bollywood film of all time. I was a little sceptical as to how this could be any different to your average vintage Bachchan flick.

Drawing heavy inspiration from Sergio Leone's Spaghetti Westerns and Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, Sholay is a remarkable accomplishment of filmmaking. Purely from a technical viewpoint, the film is riddled with sophisitcated camerawork, excellent use of slow motion and clever editing. It wasn't just a case of simply pointing the camera at someone and shouting "action!" Director Ramesh Sippy captured ambitious angles under immensely harsh desert conditions. The storyline is a classic tale of good vs evil but at 204mins, could've trimmed certain chapters for the sake of tighter pacing.

In retrospect, I can see now why many were mesmerised by Sholay's impressive visuals and action-packed storyline. It set a new benchmark for future Bollywood directors and still holds up today as an all time classic.

As far as I know the French release is the one too go for (but I think its the theatrical cut) - depends if it bothers you that much - DEFO go for the DVD - VCDs are cack in quality (so are Bollywood dvds mind u, lol, but VCDs are worse still, plus if you're as lazy as I am, YOU GOTTA CHANGE THE DISCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
