Much scepticism about the disc 2 contents on the newsgroup.

This has been being discussed on Rush - specific forums for a few days now - it's referred to as "The Fantasy Disc". Anthem / SRO, Rush's management people, have denied its existence - and have also said there is not yet an official release date for the DVD, whatever form it takes.:|

Can't wait for this, no matter what form it takes. Anyone know if any previous live rush has been transferrred to dvd?

I'd get it just for these if nothing else. For some long-forgotten reason (possibly to do with a couple of mid-'80s era singles I heard and didn't warm to) I never got any further into Rush than the albums 2112 and Hemispheres, but these title-track mini-epics alone are such classics as to be worth my admission money for a DVD... and, for me, a good chance to finally check out some more material for the first time.

Really, it ain't gonna happen.:oh-hum: The whole "Fantasy Disc" is unfortunately an over - zealous Fanboy's wet dream.

Have a look at the postings at www.t-n-m-s.com & other Rush forums.

The DVD's gonna be worth getting for any Rush fan, though, and their last album Vapor Trails is (arguably) the best thing they've done in about 20 years.

Sanityfalls - AFAIK there was a Japan - only DVD release of Exit - Stage Left a few years back - a direct transfer of the laser disc with no extras. Dunno if it's still available. Although I understand if you look in the right places (- no, I don't know where!) there are some less, er, legitimate live DVDs available....

BTW do you ever check out live bands in Edinburgh?

Thanks for the info Jon, i'll have a wee look in those "right places " I think your talking about. ;)

I havn't really checked out many bands in Edinburgh these days, although I do know of a few bands. I actually play in a band in Edinburgh but we havn't really done anything live for a few years, mainly due to line up problems etc and were lucky if we even rehearse about once a month. I used to know a few bands quite well though due to rehearsing in niddrie street for many years and have a few friends who are currently in, or have been in bands. One of my friends used to be the guitarist for unique freak, now in decades decline, I've seen them live a few times, in fact many years ago I did a 4 track recording for them in their rehearsal room. The guitarist in my band has also just completed playing guitar on Xitizen Cain's (from musselburgh) new album playing dead. I also know a couple of the guys form nothing sacred. I have heard of the band in your sig, maya29, I've seen the name a few times on fliers etc, but have never seen or heard the band before.

Sanityfalls - nice to have another Edinburgh - based muso on the Forums. I play bass with Maya29 - if you're interested we've got 7 mp3s on the website (I recommend Elysium, Akhaisha & Cause Of Unrest) & I'm always interested in hearing new opinions. As a band, we're particularly bad at defining / describing our music, so I'll allow you the liberty of making up your own mind... Unfortunately we have no upcoming Edinburgh gigs - we've played it to death over the last year & are keen to get back to playing more far flung places.

Funny what a small world it is - Xitizen Cain (or Citizen Cain as they were back then) used to be London based & I remember seeing them in the Southern Belle in Gillingham at the arse - end of the '80s when I lived Dahn Sarf (yep - I'm a soft Southern get) & being rather impressed by these scary looking Scottish geezers playing uncompromising & unashamed Prog rock.

I've seen Nothing Sacred (their drummer was superb) & seen Unique Freak / IDD a number of times. At the moment Edinburgh's got a stupid number of superb unsigned bands & it's high time the Industry woke up & got their cheque books out and.... Oh, sorry. Wrong meeting...

My band got involved with the Meadows Festival a couple of years ago & have wound up being responsible for live music at the event - so if you want to check out 19 Edinburgh based bands over a weekend you can on June 7th / 8th. Last year the Sunday was ruined by (predictable) rain so we have a bloody great tent this year.

Maya29 aren't playing this year (we've done the last two) so we're currently sifting through stacks of demos & going to gigs to try & decide a line up. We've probably had about 50 applications & expect plenty more by the mid - May deadline...

Anyway:

www.maya29.co.uk
www.situation-normal.com (a work in progress?)

Bloody hell. I've just realised what time it is:eek: & I'm off to bed!

G'night....

Jon,

I just checked out a couple of your mp3's, you,ve got some good stuff there. Your right though, about your music being difficult to catagorize, the closest thing I would liken it too would be maybe Lacuna Coil, but maybe that's more because of your vocalist rather than the music. I am a particular fan of female fronted metal bands, some of my favorites being, Within Temptation, Nightwish, & the gathering. I also quite like the new Evanescence disc.

I remember the meadows festival from last year - I only found out about it on the Saturday night and had planned to go on the Sunday but never went cause it was ******* down! I will definately be going this year though. If the weather holds up it should be a great day out.

If your interested I have a link to couple of my bands mp3's on my personal webpage. They are only cheapo home recordings, with a drum machine and not really mixed that well, but anyway, here's the link -

That second disc is pure fantasy. The dead giveaway being that the tracks are not even associated with the right albums in the most. Still, if anyone has seen the Toronto 2002 VCD's then they certainly give a good taste of what will be on the DVD's and the quality of performance we can expect. To be honest I don't think Rush have played better live than on their most recent tour. The setlist combined with their new found energy is pure magic. :)

Sanityfalls - Finally got the chance to listen to your stuff & I'm impressed! Get your band's lineup sorted out & let's see you out there!

Don't know if you know about this site:

www.edinburghmetalscene.co.uk

EMS has a specific forum for local bands & if finding personnel is a problem it might help - post an mp3 link.

The Meadows last year - Sunday was a bit diastrous weather wise - we were first band on so missed the rain, but only about 5 bands finished their sets. Hence the decision to put the whole thing (well, the music bit) under canvas this year. Still can't say what the line up'll be but we're looking at having a rock / metal / punk day and an indie / pop / everything else day rather than just mixing everything up like last year.

If you like female - fronted Metal bands check out Madder Mortem - caught them supporting Opeth last month & was most impressed.

Cheers Jon, thanks for that link. I'll definitely checkout madder mortem. Now I'm really disappointed I didn't go and see Opeth:( .
