Ok totally confused, what is the difference if any between The neptunes and NERD. I cant seem to find any albums of either of them on the net apart from "in search of" and no where stocks it any longer?!
Does anywhere know a site that sells their stuff and has it in stock?

NERD are The Neptunes own band. As The Neptunes they're the production team behind a whole bunch of songs for the likes of Jay-Z, Kelis, Justin Timberlake, N.O.R.E., Busta Rhymes, Clipse, and many more (including Britney!). As NERD they've released one album, 'In Search Of'. It was initially released in 2001, a synthesizer-led version that is more similiar to their trademark sound. That was only a limited editionn version, has since been deleted and is pretty difficult to find now. In 2002 they released a "real instruments" version of the album which is still available and shouldn't be too difficult to track down.

HMV were selling the 2nd release for £7.99 very recently [that's where I got mine] and had bucketloads available. Unfortunately it seems the price has gone back to the totally unreasonable £13.99
Looks like you've ordered the 1st version from the HMV website, which is quoting 3 weeks for despatch so cool yer jets!

wow thanks for all the help guys. I had a look again and have ordered it from Amazon. Hopefully I will get it soon. Is the first version much better than the second?

The first version's... different. It's a stipped down version of the second version (does that make sense?). To me, it sounds like the band on the second version (Spymob? or something like that) simply played on top of the first version. The second version rocks!!

You know I had the first version and then lost it on the way going home (don't ask!) and then thought I'd get another later, forgot and then found out its gone! Bah! Is there any where you can still get the first version?
The Neptunes is just Pharrell & Chad and N*E*R*D is them with Shay who I believe is Pharrell's cousin.
BTW has anyone heard any of Roscos P Goldchain's music?

Well I got it today, its got a different front cover than appears on the website, its a black and white photo of them rather than the guy sitting on the bed. Half way through it and impressed, thanks for the info guys

The picture of Pharrell sitting on the bed playing Playstation is the first version cover.

you can go on the startrak website and listen to a couple of his tracks
In cases you didn't know, N*E*R*D stands for "No-one Ever Really Dies" :)
Can people just confirm which is which,
Original version: Sitting playing Playstation
Reworked version: 'Brown' and white pic of the 3 guys
Is this right? Is one version significantly better than the other?
Although I wouldn't like to bank on it going by just the cover pics the original version is available 'within 24hrs' from Amazon (UK)... Pretty sure one of my mates picked this up a while back when he was in the States, may have to check what version he's got and have a listen.

I ordered it from amazon on their website it was the picture of the guy sitting playing the playstation however the version I got was the brown and white pic.
Thought that was probably the case, cheers for the confirmation. :)
Nerd/Neptunes also do the music for the nike (stickman) ad's....not released yet either!

The original version has Shay playing playing playstation on the cover. It's entirely sample based (aside from the vocals obviously) and IMO much crisper for it. However Virgin weren't happy with it and pulled it after a week of release in 2001 and got them to record it using instruments. Fortunately I've got the original:D
Also the Nike soundtracks are available from the nike freestyle website.

New Neptunes stuff:
Pharrell Williams featuring Jay-Z 'Frontin' - very nice solo R&B
Max Bedroom/N.E.R.D. 'Star Trak N.E.R.D.' - 2CD mix of some of their better productions. Includes Kardinal Offishall's 'Belly Dancer', my fave track.
The first track is only a promo at the moment but the second is available from hiphopsite.com
Does hiphopsite.com (http://www.hiphopsite.com ) accept orders from outside the US? i had a quick look but could not find any info on delivery/postage.

Good to get on their mailing list too - they get lots of proper exclusives. The stuff I've ordered from them hasn't been released anywhere else - worldwide!!

Are N*E*R*D releasing a new album anytime soon? Is that Pharrell ft Jay Z track from a new album?

NERD will be releasing a new album but not until later in the year. The Pharrell track is from a compilation due out in the summer called 'Star Trak presents Clones'.

I have just noticed that HMV Oxford Street had copies of the NERD nike ad tune on vinyl.
They are a white label with the nike tick on the label.
