View Full Version : Rivaldo for Boro
The local paper here does like a laff:
Boro could be just days away from tabling a sensational bid for former FIFA World Player of the Year Rivaldo.
The Evening Gazette can exclusively reveal that club chiefs have been working behind the scenes on potential packages aimed at luring the Brazilian to Teesside.
If the sums add up, Boro will make an official bid that could ultimately lead to the transfer coup of the summer.
Rivaldo is currently out of favour at AC Milan, less than a year after joining the Champions League finalists on a three-year contract worth a reputed £80,000-per-week.
At the age of 31 he has a limited shelf-life, and will be keen to win first team football.
With most Serie A clubs strapped for cash, the chances of a move within Italy are slim.
Boro know that signing Rivaldo would have an impact on Teesside that could exceed the amazing scenes that greeted Juninho's arrival in 1995.
The financial boost it would bring to shirt sales and gate receipts could potentially off-set the player's wages.
And the idea of a Rivaldo-Juninho partnership would set supporters salivating and bring Boro the goals from midfield that were lacking last season.
Milan won't ask for a transfer fee, although the former Barcelona star's demand for a £3.4m pay-off could prove to be a stumbling block.
The link with Rivaldo was first revealed in the Gazette some weeks ago and was dismissed by the club at that time because of the initial financial package involved.
But talks have continued and now the two parties are believed to have moved much closer.

Yes. Then we would just need a striker who can score goals, two decent full backs and someone who can tackle.

You bought Boateng, Ehiogu, Southgate, Steve Harrision and Paul Barron. I thought you might like more Villa rejects and become Aston Villa in Teeside :)

Well, after watching the Champions League final where Ancellotti decided that Rivaldo is so rubbish he brought on Serginho before him I bet he will go somewhere this summer.
Yup I'd say Rivaldo is done with Milan. If I were him, I'd probably tell Ancelotti that leaving him on the bench for the Champions League final was unacceptable, especially at his age when he needs to be playing.

The final need Rivaldo magic. Any Brazilians and English players hated Serie A league anyway.
I think Middlesbrough should keep an eye on their finance. I mean what happens if Steve Gibson got shot by a Sunderland fan tomorrow.

A Sunderland fan, with a gun?.....surely his first target would be Bob 'if he goes, I go' Murray???...thats if they hadn't shot themselves first!!

after the cl final thing, I can see the attraction of a club like Boro to Rivaldo.
1) Junhino has signed for them 20something times, so he will at least KNOW about boro
2) Boksic et al, have all gone their for fat final paydays
3) he will be a big fish in a small pool, not a bit part player like at Milan

I agree, I read somewhere that Rivaldo was desperate to end his career in the premier league.
Although I think he join Bolton of course :D

I'd be less concerned if Mr. Gibson got shot by one of Sunderland's players, as they would obviously miss.

In the Bryan Robson years, players used to end their careers THEN come to Boro
