View Full Version : The Pompey Wage Bill?
I know this is a bit of an odd question, but I was after some help finding some information.
I sure I've heard somewhere that the Portsmouth wage bill for the last year was in excess of £15m and I may be dreaming but £24m rings a bell.
Can I hell-as remember who told me or where I might have read it!!! Anyone else in Forum Land heard similar and/or know where the proof may be found??? :help:

I don't know what the actua figure was, but the highest earners at Pompey were on £10k pw (reports at the time of Merson's signing were saying that he agreed to halve the 20k Villa were paying him to fit in with Portsmouth's wage structure) with some players still receiving part of their wages from their previous clubs (like Festa, who I believe Middlesbrough were still paying 2/3 of the wages for).
The only figure I've heard mention is 700k per month, which would put the annual figure at £8.4mm but even that seems a bit high considering fratton Park only holds just over 19,000 at present, so the income is not that great.
But pompeyfan - aren't you bank-rolled by your chairman?

To some extent, he's trying to raise the £35m for the stadium, and has cleared the clubs debts of £20m, but wee restricted on signings - he's given the go ahead for 5 or 6 this summer.
A wage bill over £8m is still impressive. Perhaps I thinking of another Div 1 club with HUGE wage bill. Maybe Ipswich???
I just remember thinking that as a Blade I have to be more than pleased with our showing for the season (excluding a nightmare 90 mins in Play-off final) if Mr Warnocks quoting of our own £3m bill is true.
Put's both clubs positions into perspective when Michael Owen on £60k/week.
Twisting topic slightly, but my thread so I hope I allowed .....
Anyone got the Deloit & Touche breakdown of clubs wealth etc???
