Shania Twain will be playing Hyde Park on July 12th. There is a web site that you have to subscribe to, this will allow you to book tickets before they go on sale to the "Public"?

http://www.cclive.co.uk/events/presale.asp?id=shaniatwain&affiliate=HotTickets

Hope this is of use.

I'd rather cover my nuts in dog food and feed them to a rottweiller...

A couple of bars of a Shania Twain tune is enough to have me reaching for the preset buttons on the radio.

Oh come on, let's not turn this into another slating thread. This is the Music Forum, that means any music can be discussed.

Some people like Ms Twain, I can't for the life of me understand why, but this info maybe of use to some people.

Although saying that, she does have a couple of good points.....

Well I for one do enjoy Shania Twains music, she is certainly much better than some of this manufactured pop bands that pass for music these days.

...thing is ...you don't have to listen to countrylite dross like Shania Twain to hear some less manufactured music...you should be listening to the real thing...artists such as:

Two dollar Pistols

Bad Livers

Gillian Welch & David Rawlins

Gram Parsons

Emmy Lou Harris

Lucinda Williams

16 Horsepower

Robbie Fulks

Guy Clark

Dudley Connella and Don Rigsby

....and last but in no way least, the late:( , great; Townes Van Zandt!!

Jeez, what the hell is termed acceptable music in this forum.

We don't like Busted because they smell and can't play instruments (although they do encourage kids to pick one up).

We don't like Shania who plays instruments, sings brilliantly and writes her own songs.

We don't like the Sterephonics because they're weird welshies.

Seems to me that unless teh band is someone no-one has ever heard of you don't get any credibility in here.

As I've said many times in the past it's Music Naziism plain and simple.

I like some of the un-coolest music on this planet but you've got to draw the line somewhere...I hate Shania Twains music, soul-less, ball-less cack, Mutt Lange should be hung for crimes against Humanity !:) Besides, his ex-wife had a far better voice (anyone remember the deodorant ad, or whatever it was...soap ?:))

Its not on this forum....its in everyday life! Shania Twain...I ask you - she has a great voice and looks amazing but insists on putting out crap like 'Ker-Ching' or whatever the EDIT that was. Why do talented people like her decide to do crap like that. Are 8 year olds the only market for pop music now??
Busted are just about the unibrow and are just manufactured to hit a certain part of the market. This sort of marketing is so blatent that it insults intelligence of music lovers.

And as for the Stereophonics - please don't get me started.....just read the various threads out there about them :D

Its not music Naziism as you so eloquently put it - its just having good taste. If you are into music that is directed at the 8 - 12 year old market then fair enough - enjoy....there is plenty of that in the charts. I just hate to see good raw talent like Shania's go to waste.

!...you can listen to what ever music you like as far as I'm concerned!...I'm a believer that any type of music that makes someone feel good inside is doing it's job...it just seems such a shame that there is so much unprocessed music going un-noticed by the record buying public who instead choose to take the easy route and buy what the record companies say they should buy via their insidious marketing strategies, while artists who are true to their roots and values are left to frequent that lonely place called 'cultdom'...

...my point was that Shania Twain and her ilk take a genre of music and water it down until it becomes almost unrecognisable from that which it originated....each to their own an all that...but I prefer my music with a little authenticity and soul to it.

The fact that the music I like is obscure in the eyes of the general public doesn't make me feel superior...it makes me feel sad that it goes, for the great part, un-noticed.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

As an example on Sunday night I saw the very fine BeachBuggy who put on an excellent show to about 100-150 people which is probably a big crowd for them and there music really deserves to be heard my more people but sadly probably never will.

Thank you dysfunction and Sammy for the support. I don't listen to her that often but her music rarely makes me so angry as to explode like most on here appear to do.

The point is that this forum appears to start from the point that Steps, Blue, Westlife et all are unacceptable as they are manufactured.

Then we move onto Shania Twain and Stereophonics who write, play and sing and they're unacceptable.

I just don't know where some people want to draw the line.

..'us lot'..or 'me' as I like to be known, don't feel any extreme need to say anything at all...I just thought that I'd give you the names of some artists who play 'real' country music, in the hope that you might try them and discover that there's a whole world of untapped genius out there just waiting to be heard...I wasn't born with those artists names implanted in my pysche...I had to be told about them as I'm telling you...and my life is so much richer for being told....

...I bet that Shania Twain knows about Townes Van Zandt and would readily admit, as most young country stars would, that his influence on country/folk was and still is immense....the man was more than a songwriter and singer...he was a poet and one that even Bob Dylan said was better than himself when it came to songwriting...Steve Earle once stated that he would readily stand up on Dylans coffee table and tell everyone that Townes was better than Dylan...the ever self effacing Townes replied when being told of this ; '...hey, I've seen Bob Dylans bodyguards and there's no way Steve Earle will get near Dylans coffee table'.

As I said earlier...I try not to to pass judgement on anyone's taste in music..if it makes you happy listen to it and like CLH I also tend to get annoyed when I come in here and read some of the threads...it reminds me of when I was a 14 year old punk in the late 70's and everyone was desperate to find the most obscure band possible cos it made you seem cooler and more in the know...and once they became popular it was de rigeur to then slate them every time they were mentioned:lol:

A point well made and therein the problem. Now I don't like Oasis but I remember when they were the next big thing and nowadays it seems fashionable to slate them.

The main problem here (as you rightly point out as well as Bish) is that it seems quite judgemental and I bet some are afraid to discuss what they like for fear of being berated by "those in the know."

And the crux of all of this is contained within Tinders post. "IF it makes you happy." Music is there to enrich the soul, to stir the emotions or just to help you relax and get through the day. If Coldplay can't help you do that but Steps can then that's just fine by me.

Ain't isolated to music, have a look in the movie forums and you'll see a few posters who'll slag off anything mainstream from Hollywood without fail whilst ruining their pants everytime a new obscure foreign film is released.

Me, I like a bit of everything from obscure stuff to happily mainstream cheesey ballads. :)

Sorry! ;)

Guess i got a bit carried away with the whole Shania thang.

I think people here think I'm a music Nazi...I really am not! In fact I intend to have Shania Twain's Still the One track as my first dance for my wedding in October. Its just a shame that she wastes her talent now.

And as for all the other manufactured bands - they produce some goods songs from time to time, so maybe you just have to live with the bad stuff. But the bad stuff can be sooooo bad :)
Just remember that most manufactured stuff is aimed towards the 8 - 12 year old female market. Some of you lads out there should go listen to some RAWK!! :)
