Manchester City are back in Europe for the first time since 1979 after England were confirmed as winners of UEFA's Fair Play table.
The Blues were nominated as England's representatives last month after finishing fifth in the Premier League's own discipline table, behind Manchester United, Newcastle, Chelsea and Liverpool, all of whom had already qualified for European competition through league position.
It means City will now enter the June 20 draw for the UEFA Cup qualifying round. The first leg of their tie has been pencilled in for August 14, with the return game two weeks later.
At least it wasn't Middlesbrough! :p

No doubt the shops in Stockport are sold out of factor 32 sun cream, Burberry caps & cans of Skol as the divs get ready to terrorise europe a la 1969.
Good luck to them. It'll make a change from the usual crowd.

It is odd that two of the four most dirty teams in the premiership are in the fair play league.
well uefa wanted to raise the profile of the UEFA cup, so what better way to make it a 'massive' competition than by having a 'massive' team in it

They still qualified though. Clubs that have gone through on more obscure reasons have gone on to win the fairs cup.

What great news! I have been jumping up and down for the last 4 hours in celebration of citys momentous achievement. I'd love a trip to somewhere like Wales or Latvia it would be brilliant and city would probably take about a million fans if not more. United's time is over now, everyone is talking about city storming Europe! Blue Moon! City till my deathbed! Massive Club! 5-1! Europe! Inflatable banana's! 5-1! Europe!......

Is Curley being sarcy?
surely this is the back back back door in.
They didn't even 'win' the fair play league. Four teams were above them.
They will probably win it

Why is there no 'zzz' smiley for 95% of this whole thread?
More Manyoo clones without two independent thoughts to rub together. Has 'Boylie' approved the posts first to check they fall in line with RedIssue "humour" protocol?

 Manchester City in Europe
If you don't know that Curly is a wind-up, then you are sadder than a Nicky Butt incident in a night club, or is it Rio this time
No one slagged off Ipswich when they got through on this system. Some people do have a bee in their bonet about my hometown club

eh? :help:
well I'm a united fan,
and if City get to the final, I'll be hoping for them to win .
Just hope for their sake they manage to overcome their phobia of scoring goals, as Keegan's teams aren't renowned for having great defenses.

Hold on. Aren't all the PM teams in the fair-play league then?

I think City qualified 'cos of the example of our English sporting behaviour.
Probably led by the example of Gary 'after you Claude' Neville on the 9th September 2002.
He'll defo get BBC sports personaility of the year.

Whilst it might be through the 'cat flap' as Mike Parry would say, I dont think there is a single club in Europe that wouldnt accept the invitation to enter. Its UEFAs daft rules, not citys.
Having said that I hope they get knocked out by Dynamo Guernsey in the preliminaries. :p
