CHESTER-LE-STREET (Reuters) - Zimbabwe fast bowler Heath Steak has removed Alec Stewart to leave England on 306 for six early on the second morning.

Stewart, lbw to a ball which kept low, added one to his overnight score to make 68 out of a 149-run stand with Anthony McGrath (73 not out).

Heath Steak? What's that then? Maybe a piece of meat found on the common?

Let's not forget the contributions of McGrath (81), Stewart (68) and amazingly to follow up his 52 in the first test - Giles who made 50 - he is in the middle of a golden patch the moment with the bat because he also made 71no against Essex earlier in the week.

For Zimbabwe Vermeulen has made a pair. Hopefully England can complete the job tomorrow without having to bat again although this will result in another three day test and I wouldn't have thought that the powers that be at Durham would be to happy with this.

I spoke to some of the staff the following year - apparently the club lost a fortune in merchandising, pitch rents for all the stores and with all the beer they had bought in for the weekend. The ECB had to cover as much as they could, but YCCC was still stuck with a hell of a lot of West Indies merchandise. Mind you, it was going dirt cheap the year after ;)

I would like to say how pleased I am that the new players in particular are doing so well for England. I know it is Zimbabwe that we are playing but it makes me wonder why we didn't try some of these (or different) players years ago. Instead we had to put up with sight of "poor old" Angus Fraser and Andy Caddick toiling away.

Come on the ECB give the new players a really good run.

...having seen the 7 lbws (thank you Ch4 for putting the highlights on so late!) hawk-eye showed one was definitely missing and another couple barely clipped the stumps. I would have thought that there was a reasonable amount of doubt to the naked eye to give them not out.

One of the LBWs should not have been given because the batsman got an inside edge, but I don't think that is one of Johnson wickets anyway. Even if they had been given the benefit of the doubt I wouldn't have thought it would have been to long before England would have dismissed them anyway.
