oh good god, i was just flicking through the music channels when i heard lyrcs that were familiar, the tune was certainly not tho.
It took me a few seconds to realise what it was... Last Nite (By The Strokes) in camp disco pop.
Why why do crap bands feel the need to try to ruin good songs?
oh the bands (using the term very loosely) name was Vitamin C
I thought this thread was going to be about Avril Lavignes cover of knocking on heaven door:gag:

Let's have a camp Hi-NRG version of "Hate To Say You Told Me So"

To be fair from Mazza manson both he and FNM just used Cheerleaders to sing the chorus of the record other bands have done this before and other bands will do it again.

The cover on 2 Many DJs (by Queen of Japan or summat I think?) rocks though, no way could you beat that :D
Also All Saints' "Under The Bridge" is ace (dow-dow-dow-do-dow--wikki-wikki...). Cover versions are cool in general (I'm with you on that one Andy), especially weirdo unlikely ones eg. A1 "Take On Me", their plastic junglist version which is quite cool in its own way.

Vitamin C is actually the singer not the band apparently. She's appeared on a few films, most memorably "Get over it".
Anyway, does it sound at all like the last nite section on "Angry white boy polka" by Weird Al? Because I thought THAT was very good.

Very true but it still sucks big time ;)
Mariah Carey's "Without You" is truly horrible....
Many covers are poor, flat and uninspired. Some are glorious and stomp over the original. But Mariah Carey should be shot.

Randy Crawford - "Who's Crying Now? " :gag:

Faith by Limp Bizkit - Utterly vomit inducing. :gag:
Any recent boyband attempt/collaboration on an old song.(That's most of the top 40)
Avril Lavigne - Chop Suey! :D
oh that's a great version of Chop Suey!
I'd deffo have to nominate Will n' Gareth's The Long And Winding Road.
OMG!
Michael Jackson doing The Beatles Come Together :gag:
Will Young - Light My Fire :gag:
Britney Spears - I Love Rock N Roll (I have nothing against her but it's a dreadful cover)
Mariah Carey - Without You
Blumchen - Blaue Augen (classic NDW given the kiddie techno treatment :( :gag: )
opps i did it again - the live version by (travis?) is decent
also didnt mind the vine's outkast cover of miss jackson
in general im not a fan of covers but sometimes they can work

Salt N Peppper murdered Another Brick in the wall part 2...
Wycelf Jean's covers of Wish you were here and Another one bits the dust are dire
That horrible rap version of Follow you follow me (by Genesis)
All that glut of Phil Collins covers
Celine Dion singing You Shook me all night long (AC/DC)
and so on...
It's so hard to pick one that stands out from the drek ... needless to say, any boy-band covering any of the Sixties' greats is as pursuarive an argument for reintroducing capital punishment as you'll ever hear.
One the other hand, covers can be masterful; Jimi Hendrix's cover of Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower", for example. So good that Dylan himself said Hendrix's version beat his hands down!

It's a rubbish cover by an awful group who's version of Orbit's 'Pure Shores' is their only good track.
On Under The Bridge they exorcise one of the verses IIRC and change the key from a minor to a major, presumably because they couldn't actually sing the original? :|

worst:- avril lavighne.,...(dunno how to spell it) - knocking on heavens door
britney spears - i lock rock and roll
(this could be because i hate both britney and avril...)
best cover is:- spineshank - while my guitar gently weeps originally done by 'jeff healey band'

Jeff Healey - While My Guitar Gently Weeps is indeed a fantastic cover. That man really knows how to play a guitar. Even though he is blind and plays it face up on his lap like a piano too.

Good grief, I thought you were joking about this. But I checked out the Tower Records site, found the Celine Dion/Anastacia cover version, played the 30-second excerpt, and it is indeed a thing of ghastly wonder. My word, one of them even says "Hey Girlfriend" on it.

Indeed I did. Truly dreadful cover. Admittedly I'm not a fan of the Jose Feliciano version in the first place (which Will Young's is based on) but Will's phrasing just sets my teeth on edge.

I dunno. It's just the juxtaposition of a song that so blatantly talks about drugs and sex being sanitised without even the hint of irony (not that it would be much better with irony!) that gets to me.

Gareth Gates Spirit In The Sky makes you want to kill yourself but hey its for charity!
Any cover such as Kiss by Tom Jones should be burned.
I cringed when I saw All Saints all posed on Top Of The Pops to do Under The Bridge. Another song that needs no covering as the original can't be beaten.

Ronan's version of Fairytale Of New York. Ah yes, dear Kirsty was no doubt turning in her grave :(
Yep, Candyflip's "Strawberry Fields Forever" was lousy, Fatdee!
Peter Gabriel did a surprisingly good cover version of "Strawberry Fields Forever", though, for a strange 70s flick called "All this and WW2". The movie put cover versions fo Beatles songs to stock footage from the 2nd World War. Never seen it, mind....

It's what the strokes would have been like if they were from Oldham
Speaking of Candy Flip, here's one Music writers take on them:
... if there is a seventh level of imitation Madchester hell, you can bet Candy Flip are living in it. Do you like 'Strawberry Fields Forever'? Yeah, everybody likes 'Strawberry Fields Forever'. But wouldn't you like it better if it was 'sung' over a synthetic symbol and snare drum by a man who appeared to be more primate than person? No, of course, you bloody wouldn't! That this very recipe was sufficient enough to secure a top-5 (top-5!) chart position in 1990 suggested that the kids really were taking too many drugs, or that Madchester had reached that point of popularity where even the most messed-up project had some chance of unit shifting success. Fortunately, a second single, 'This Can Be Real', had the decency to flop dreadfully and Candy Flip disappeared in the direction of the nearest who-cares-where-they-are-now file.

Really surprised no one's mentioned Madge's American Pie. God, that is AWFUL.
Although for me, the worst steaming cover ever is still Far Corporation's attempt at Stairway To Heaven. The middle bridge with the keyboard break is unspeakable evil.
The thought of Tina Turner doing Unfinished Sympathy is too horrible to contemplate. I pray I never hear it.
Best cover i've heard recently is Joe Satriani's sublime version of "Sleepwalking". Beautiful.
