Ordered this title from hkflix.com; I was excited as it stars 2 leading martial arts performers (Donnie Yen is superb); unfortunately this edition has a very poor transfer, the sound is bloody awful and the film itself- well is quite ***** to be honet; poor choreography, ******** camera angles and just cheap trash. Oh well. If anyone wants a copy, it's on my classifieds thread!

Great film.
Hopefully HKL will get off their backsides and release it with all the bells and whistles it deserves.

I agree with you, Jimmyboy! I love WING CHUN's goofy humor. Michelle Yeoh is great as the unbeatable kung fu heroine with a soft spot for her childhood sweetheart, Donnie Yen! (Also love seeing Cheng Pei-Pei in her brief cameo). And Yuen King Tan as Abacus Fong is a show-stealer! I love that hilarious scene where she and Waise Lee are "grinding" the beans. ;)

Sure, there's a lot of wire-fu in this one, but under Yuen Woo-Ping's direction, this movie delivers.

The "Tofu" scene is pretty cool too. :)

I enjoyed Wing Chun too - what DVD you get Gekko?

There was a mainland release which was **** poor and a fairly new Modern Audio HK disc which I've yet to see (I got the Tai Seng DVD which was, shock horror, superior to the then available releases).

The film still pales against Tai Chi Master though :D

Isn't there a French release of Wing Chun?

That's just your personal preference, Pete. Because I prefer to have a kick-ass heroine in the lead role. :D ;)

And Nils -- glad to see you're alive! :) Where have you been hiding?

Of course :D

Although I could ogle Michelle Yeoh all day :luv:

I think TCM along with My Father Is A Hero are two really underrated Jet flicks.

I really enjoyed Tai Chi Master, but I can't say the same for My Father Is A Hero (alternate title: "My Father is a Hero, but I'm an Abused Kid"). The competitiveness between Jet Li and his friend in the beginning is hilarious (can't remember his name now and can't be bothered to look it up. :D -- was also in Mr. Vampire). TCM is good fun. But I still like the humor in Wing Chun a bit better, and Michelle Yeoh gets to beat up more guys. ;)

I loved Wing Chun when I first saw it back in the mid 90's :D

I have got the DVD but have yet to watch it, I think I will have to get round to seeing this later on tonight.....

As for the comments on Tai Chi Master - IMO that is one of Jet Li's best films and very underrated.

I was also really impressed with the kid in My Father (Tze Miu I think) - he's also in New Legend of Shaolin.

Seen the HKL disc and also the first time ive watched the film, i thought it was very enjoyable as a comedy and also high class in terms of action and fighting,

the subtly implied lipstick lesbianism was funny stuff, and its not often that you can put subtle comedy and Woo-ping in the same sentence (the comedy elements in some of his other films of that era and earlier are as subtle as a slap in the face)

while not in any way a wing chun masterclass (or even a beginners guide) the action was inventive and impressive (the fight above the spear pole was sweet)

as has been said the grinding bean scene was great and any film where michelle yeoh gets to fake an orgasm is good enough for me (the foot rub scene)

HKL also did a decent job with the dvd as the transfer is good and the interview extra's informative (is it just me or does donnie yen sometimes come across as a bit of a whinger in dvd extra's)

cant understand people who think this film is rubbish
