View Full Version : Samsung MAX-DN55
I have asked this question before, but someone somewhere may have an answer - can you make this dvd/hi-fi play r1 disks?
If not i'm gonna fork out for a new player! so please someone - HELP!:)
thanks
Have you tried the waghorn hack. This works on the Samsung 709 and 511 players. Your Hifi probably contains the innards of one of those players.
It may not work though, because of differences in the remote / unit buttons. Its got to be worth trying.
The hack is click here for 709 hack (http://www.709online.com/709faq.htm)
You could always ask on their forum ( 709 online) if it doesn't work.

Right, something in this dvd player is responding and getting as far as displaying the numbers for the region code when I use the (repeat, 3,8,7,6,7) hack suggested - the only problem is that as the machine is a 3 disc player, its very difficult to time it right. Sometimes I can tap it in and it works and other times I just get the little red symbol meaning stop or error.
The 'cold start' method won't work with this player so I've just unplugged it and hoped that that would work, with variyng degrees of success. Sometimes I get the code number, sometimes just the stupid ******** little red symbol.
Even when I do get the region code up and change it, I dont know where to go from there, the method for the 709 doesn't work here, that of closing it, power off and on again.
Would someone with a technical mind like to offer us poor max-dn owners something more positive than my useless cack-handed guessing?
Baconbra, let me know if you get any responce about this!! (i'll forget this thread exsits!!) I have had my MAX for nearly a year, quite pleased but fed up of putting my warfy through it and getting crap sound quality on my US disks. :( How do you play r1 disks or do you not?

The problem is that I CAN get the region code to appear on the top left of the screen AND choose it, but after that I have no idea. And the process that works to even get the region code to appear is shoddy at best, I can't seem to get any strict method worked out, sometimes it works other times it doesn't and I don't seem to be altering it that much. This may be because I have no Idea of how to 'cold start' the machine (like they do with the 709). The basic fact is that it MUST be possible if I can get to the stage where I can choose a region code from 1-6 or 9.
All I have to do is try and work out HOW THE HELL I'M DOING IT!
And then once that is done, work out how to get the code on screen established as the code that is fixed for the disk I play.
try a combination of the following, pay attention to the blue LCD lights that represent the CD's and remember that when the little red symbol shows on the TV (like a stop sign) then your attempt is over!
-Take out all CDs and turnm the machine off.
-Turn it on with the remote and wait for the CD tray to spin through all empty trays as it spins nothing and displays NO DISK, the blue CD lights go off as it goes from 1 to 3
-Then open the CD tray with the remote (note that the blue CD lights go blue once again!)
-Close the tray with PLAY on the remote
-The process begins again as the tray spins through CD1 CD2 CD3
**here is where I have managed on several occasions to get the region code to display**
-At some point, either pressing REPEAT and the code (38767) or stop and the code or just stop or just repeat or SOMETHING...I have managed to get the tray NOT to spin through all CD chambers. Instead it seems to stop on either the second or third chamber and say NO DISK - but it won't run through them all and exstinguish all three lights.
If you can get to this point then you simply press REPEAT and the code 38767 and the region code (02) will appear on the top left - you can then change the code to 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 9 and that is as far as I have gone with it.
Try it yourself and see if you can get anywhere, I'm persisting and trying to work out something definite. The fact that I have got this far at least means that it CAN HAPPEN. We just don't know how yet.
