View Full Version : Panasonic Camcorder 'Slim' Mode == Anamorphic?

I just got my replacement camcorder from the insurance and this new model has a 'slim' mode.

From the looks of things it seems to be an anamorphic mode - filling the 4:3 area with a vertically stretched 16:9 view.

However, I just wondered if it's actually providing a genunine increase in resolution or simply stretching the output from the CCD pixels in the 16:9 area?

If it is I am tempted to film stuff in it so that it looks fine on my widescreen TV, and so that if I was author it to DVD in some way it could be anamorphic.

Not much point if it offers no more resolution than the 'matted' cinema mode, however...

Cheers
Theo

It might help if you gave us the model number...

Assumed that was for DVD stuff only...

Model number is NVDS60B, though I'm not sure if that does any good. Panasonic like to give you features for no apparent reason. It has a stretch mode too which does it the other way... Weird...
