does anyone know if the UK anchor bay edition (recently released) still has the same cuts as the old video?
according to their site, the last time it was classified by the BBFC was 1988, cuts were made for demonstrating the use of molotov cocktails according to melonfarmers, but i'm sure i've seen them in many films since..
and imdb lists that a couple more scenes were removed from UK versions...
Diamondback opening and closing a butterfly knife repeatedly before slitting the barmaid's throat
- i strongly doubt that this scene will have been re-instated given the BBFC's love for knives...
Jesse and Severen putting the barman's body on the bar and smashing bottles of spirits over and around him to fuel the fire while Severen quips "Hey, bartender salad".
- doesn't sound that bad...
suppose i could just get the R1 version, but maybe R2 only folk might like to know about the cuts, if anyone can help :)
i watched it last night and they are definitely back in, cant see why they were taken out in the first place

can't wait for the day they try and classify Full Contact

bit off topic, but I recently spoke to someone involved in the design of the R2 Near Dark Special edition and it seems Anchor Bay screwed up a bit.
If you have a copy, check the discs - if you have no '18' certificate printed on them, then you have the first release that was pulled from stores after 3 days. As you know, its illegal not to have certification on a disc.
I was given my copy by aforementioned contact (along with Bruce Lee 30th boxset & Evil Dead Trilogy amongst other freebies :) ) and my copy is '18' less ;)
Anchor Bay said it was fine too keep the disc's without the "18" on them. But if you want you can send the discs to anchor bay and get them replaced. They'll be worth a firar bit on ebay on a few years.

ahhh yeah, lol, didn't notice that at all.. they look pretty sweet actually...
is the repress the normal 2-disc amaray then? the one i have is one of those cardboard-flippy-foldy-whatever-they're-called cases... i like it...
has anyone listened to the commentary? bit poor really. Bigelow only starts talking about the film properly during the closing credits, and there are fairly large gaps where she says nothing at all.. would have been good to get the Aliens crew on board, they seemed very enthusiastic about the film judging by the interviews....
I just watched this for the first time. Bit of a blind buy after picking it up at play for £3.99
Wow, what a cool film!!
Nice thread bump, and an absolute classic film.

Unsurprisingly Near Dark is in line for a remake soon.
When I spoke to [name drop]Lance Henriksen[/name drop] in 2002, he said that both he and Bill Paxton often talked that they would like to be in a prequel to Near Dark, and that it was one of his favourite movies that he had worked on.
It's a great movie

Be a strange looking prequel if both main vamps looked 20 yrs older :D
Would be cool though.

Didn't know that. Would be quite interested to read that, as I quite like his writing.
Near Dark is an impressive low-budget little horror flick (much prefer it to the other big[ish] vampire flick of 87: Lost Boys), but the ending always makes my teeth grate: the blood transfusion . It always seems too pat an ending.
Yeah, its a shame it came out so close to Lost Boys. A lot of my late teenage years were spent trying to persuade dodgy goth chicks that they really should watch Near Dark for the first time rather than TLB for nth time.
I agree about the spoilered bit above, I am prepared to forgive it that little niggle as its perfect in just about every other way.
I wish Kathryn Bigelow would make more flicks, she's good... and a bit of a fox :n0rty:

agreed - Strange Days was a great film, but nothing of note since
although imdb has new film for this year 'The Hurt Locker' - good cast

Strange Days yup top film as well, also a bit underated by Joe Public.

The problem I have with Strange Days is that it turns an intriguing premise into nothing more than a somewhat naff conspiracy thriller. A very pretty one, mind.

Strange Days is excellent until the 'Rodney King' ending.

Only bad thing about Strange Days was ******* Skunk Anansie playing at the NYE show.

Well.. there is that. But, having Testament playing too more than made up for it!
