View Full Version : French Connection 1 & 2.
Have to say, I've never seen them, but I know they've just been released on R1. So, the question would be a double whammy...Are the films any good, and what are the DVDs like?
Thanking you kindly :)

The first is a classic, the second splits opinion. I personally think it's great. Am not fussed on the packaging – got it at the same time as The Simpsons and that's much nicer in comparison!
The BBC doc is excellent (but nowhere near as good as Kermode's 'Fear of God' Exorcist one'.
Not watched it with the commentaries yet but very much look forward to hearing what Friedkin has to say as he is a nutter and always good for a laugh.
Both films are indeed excellent and the discs are equally good. A must-buy - you can get the double pack for £17.99 from Play, which must be the bargain of the year.
Reviews of both coming soon.

The French Connection is the best DVD I've bought in the last few months. The transfer is simply gorgeous and the extras are exactly what you want on a DVD.

Tis a superb package, as pointed out by the fine people above - for 18 quid for both you can't go wrong; 2 great film, a shed-load of extras, a cardboard box. Heaven ;)

Some shots were grainy in FC 1, was that intentional? On the whole, the transfer is terrific!!!
The audio is excellent, too.
The grain is intentional with the documentary style, i have to say I was very imperssed with the audio considering it's 30 years old. The pack is well worth £17.99 and also makes me wish Roy Scheider got some decent roles now instead of DTV dreck.
Cheers chaps!
Consider it ordered :D

You won't be dissapointed, I watched FC1 for the first time on Sunday and was quite taken back at just how good a film it is.

Bargain of the year is right, I thougth it was a mistake when I first say the price. The Fox 5 star series are looking like Criterion type quality.

i also watched 'FC1' (as we seem to be calling it!) for the first time when my disc turned up from ringos last weekend. rarely buy movies before i've seen them but came up trumps on this one. superb movie, and great dvd set. the transfer is absolutely staggering considering the movie is 30 years old.
also of interest will be the appearance of the world trade centre towers under construction. they appear twice (chapters 11 and 12 i think) and the sight of them being built is very poignant image now that we've seen them be destroyed in such a tragic, brutal fashion.
Is the FC2 pro-logic only?
