I've been wondering for ages -

I have a Wharfie 750S and Yamaha VS10, connected by an optical cable.

The question is :-

Audio setup on the player - should it be digital PCM or bitstream ?

Cheers !

Bitstream.

To quote from the manual ;)

"Allows you to adjust the output of the audio on the RCA jacks Digital Audio output to work correctly with the audio equipment the player is connected to.

Digital PCM: when the players digital audio output is connected to an audio amplifier/decoder that accepts only S/PDIF inputs (i would imagine this means DACs).

Bitstream: when the players S/PDIF output is connected to an audio amplifier/decoder that accepts Dolby Digital, PCM, MPEG or DTS inputs.
"

So so long as your amp is DD then pick bitstream.

sorry off topic. I have a 750s and have been thinking of going the VS10 way. How does it work? Are you happy with it?

Cheers

First of all, cheers Laura - I have recently moved (got the VS10 after moving) and have not found the manual yet !!

Secondly, Riaz, yeah, I think the VS10 is an excellent little system. My living room is about 15 x 12 and the sound is pretty good, although combined with the relative quietness of the Wharfedale (and my deafness), some DVDs will have to be played with the volume setting of about 30, with the max volume being 50.

Connection is by optical cable rather than coaxial, and that puts some people off, but it's sitting right next to my DVD player so I only needed a short cable run.

I also have my VCR, Dreamcast and a CD player running through it. The music repro is quite good, although not great. Combined with a stereo video the sound is good.

The speakers are springclip connected rather than banana plug, and there is ample cable length for the rear speakers (I reckon about 30 feet). The fronts. centre and sub are connected to the amp, and the rears are connected to the sub. All in all, superb. I got mine for £309 inc. delivery from leconcepts.
