A 36 inch example of one of these caught my eye while window shopping the other day. The most impressive thing initially was the small frontal area, the 36 inch being only a fraction bigger than my 28 inch Phillips. A play with a Comet demo model revealed awful geometry and a very processed look, but this was via the standard crap UHF input supplied to all their TV's. A couple of others I have seen since have been better, but a decent Phillips or Sony near by looked at least as good at a better price! Does anyone have any personal experience of these sets? Also, is there a variant of the model available without the onboard DD amp?

I've got one of these. Best thing about it is the picture quality with
DVD via component connection. Superb picture. RGB Sky digital is
excellent also. The processed look is probably due to Natural scan
being switched on. Standard 100Hz processing and noise reductions is
fine. The only down sides are that only one of the scarts is RGB and
that the contrast/brightness processing varies the brightness levels
on some static pictures with bright moving objects in the foreground.
This sounds awful I realise but it only seems to present itself in
things like chat shows or weather broadcasts. i.e. people wearing
light coloured clothes moving against a static background. Personally,
I love the set even with this flaw. With DVD and shows like The Blue
Planet it's breathtaking.

Thanks for the replies. I do frequent that forum as a lurker but not the TV section. There does appear to be lots of issues with this TV, but also lots of fixes including one for the problem ron mentioned. Curiously replacements tend to be the same make of TV which also suggests the TV has some merits. We shall see whats in the kitty come the January sales!

Shop around too. There's some good deals on this TV. A/V store of Glasgow had it for £1499 a while back. I got a local electrical store (Hanna & Brown of Newtownards) to price match and they chucked in free delivery. :)

Curry's £1999. Pah! Get real.
