View Full Version : Children of Dune
HAs anyone seen this yet - what is it like? I am considering getting it as i loved the books.
cheers
Yeah, I've seen it, and give it a
It's better than the first miniseries, if you've seen that, and far more enjoyable than the Lynch film.
I can't imagine that someone who loved the books won't enjoy the series.
I loved the books (but I am currently being under-whelmed by the prequels written by Frank Herbert's son and another bloke), and I HATED the first miniseries, but enjoyed part 1 of the "Children of Dune" miniseries, the part actually based on the book "Dune Messiah." There were a few changes, but they made sense considering they were doing two books in one miniseries. I was pretty excited after watching part 1, but parts 2 & 3 (the actual "Children of Dune") kinda lost me again. I can't say how someone unfamiliar with the books would respond to it, though. I imagine they'd be somewhat confused! Since you know the books already, you'll be able to follow but will probably spend most of your time picking out changes along the way like I did!
In any case, if you did see the first miniseries, like Bronso said, this one is indeed better.

I still need to get this.
My main concern is what the picture quality of the R1 is like by cramming three parts onto two discs?
I prefer to have one part on a DVD but the R2 is twice the price of the R1.

I've got the R1 and I can't say I noticed any PQ probs (it's been a while since I watched it)... making the R2 3 discs was just a way for WB to stick it out at a high RRP, imo.

Just had a look now and on the first disc (with parts 1+2) the bitrate hovers around the 6mps mark, with the occasional peak and trough.

Thanks. The cheapest I have seen the R2 is £17.99. The R1 can be bought for nearly half that.

I just watched Children of Dune for the first time (and watched Dune before it for the third time). It was really excellent and didn't have any problems following the plot despite reading the books many years ago. I would really like to see more but haven't heard anything about more mini series . I suspect it would be even harder to put to film though.

There was a rumor going round last week that there's going to be another big budget Dune movie to be directed by Peter 'The Kingdom' Berg.

Interesting. I always like Peter Berg for some reason. It sounds like a remake but I rather see something we haven't seen before.

A good Dune movie is something we've never seen before. :)

I like it. I still rather see something that I haven't seen in film and TV version before.
If they could take the style, look and design of Lynch's Dune and make an even bigger film, then I'd like to see that!
I loved Lynch's Dune but having seen the two TV series, I know there was a lot more to the books.
Psycho

I can't believe ANYONE would risk making another big-budget Dune film. TV shows, yeah, but not theatrical.

Agreed, plus in todays climate I'm not sure a film that is almost so heavily religion orientated would be viewed by many.
