Hi,
I'm getting a DD/DTS amp for my DVD player and the connection for that is sorted, a simple Optical Out to Optical In, which the amps i'm looking at have.
However, i would also like to output the audio from my Nokia onDigital box through the amp too, so i can get Prologic and any future broadcast quality through the amp/speakers. The Nokia box has 3 Audio connections.
- 2 (1 white, 1 red) phone plugs marked Audio Out - This is analogue i presume?
- It also has 1 black phono shape socket marked Digital Audio Out.
What input on my amp will i need to connect this? Will it just be called Digital Audio In or something, or is this a Coaxial Digital Out on the digi box?
Thanks.

The black one sounds like the Digital Co-ax output. There should be a few of these on the back of your amp. Does the same job as the optical.
Failing that, the 2 phono outputs will give you stereo and pro-logic at best.
What amp are you getting?

the digital output will also give you pro-logic at best, as ondigital have no plans to introduce dolby digital in the uk (and even if they did have plans, i don't think they have the bandwidth.
you might as well just use the stereo phonos and think about (if you amp has it) using an s-video connection for video switching as well.

Well my budget is a flagrant 350 quid for amp and speakers :D
So i think i will probably get the Yamaha HTIB40 kit. The amp/receiver in that is the RXV420RDS.
RE: The other post about video switching. Excuse my newbieness :), but why would i want a video input on my audio amp?
Once this amp and speaker kit is sorted i have to work around getting a player with macrovision disabled as the only free input i have is a SCART socket on my VCR..

The idea is that if you have several sources, you connect them all (video and audio) into your amp, and then one video output from your amp to your TV. Then, you use the amp to select which source you want to watch, and you get the sound from the speakers and the picture from the TV. You only select "AV" (or whatever) on the TV and it gets whatever the amp is set to. Saves having to select between inputs, separately on both devices, but it does mean that the Amp has to be on whenever you watch anything other than the TV itself.
Use the Digital Coax over the stereo phono connections to the amp, the Nokia is quite capable at producing a digital signal (although pro logic is all you will get). The results on my old Mediamaster were impressive. You don't need a digital lead though, just use a normal phono cable (one half of a pair will do).

The SVideo comment is a bit of a red herring as the Nokia does not do SVideo, only RGB (which is excellent) and composite.
