Ducky has the DVD player and the TV now ducky want's speakers but doesn't know what to look for... me player will do Dolby Digital and DTS... was wondering what was the difference between the two and where can I find a cheap set... Someone said they got some Dolby speakers for under £100
Someone point ducky in the right direction!!!!!
cheapest solution is sommit like videologics digitheater, or yammah's vs10.
Which are amp and speaker sets, and both do DD and DTS. The difference between them is that they are two contending ways of storing 5.1(or more) channels digitally...neithers best, they are just different.
DD(Dolby Digitial) is more common(and will I think be found on every disc, except some old transfers) (esp in region2) cause it takes less space.

So what if I just went for a set of Dolby Digi speakers that'd be ALOT cheaper than DTS wouldn't it... I've got a Bush 2004 player
well as they are both the same sort of system, and the same sort of price. no it doesn't matter which, after reading reviews I would go for the yammah.

the speakers are the same, whether it's Dolby or DTS.The difference comes in the amp needed to decode and output the sounds. You have a couple of options.
If your DVD has built in decoders and a set of 6 phono outputs, then you can get away with the 'budget' speaker packages available from the likes of Bush etc for around £100.
If your player only has digital output (either an optical or Co-axial socket) then you will need a package with a decoder/amplifier, such as the Digitheater/Yamaha packages. These are going to be aound the £300 mark.
Finally, there is the separates amp/speaker route, which will keep you busy for ever ;) .
For suppliers, check out, suprisingly enough, the Supplier Forum. There is a good link at the top of the pag4e that will take you to a nice list of online hardware suppliers.

Even if your player has built in decoders your gonna still need to amplify the signal. So just buying speakers is a no-no.
For a DD system you're best bet is probably the Digitheatre for ~£200
For DTS there are a few options but they start at around £300. There's a few suggestions here (http://thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22465).

Sorry Bap, Should have made it a bit clearer. Videologic, Bush et-al do DD speaker packages where the Sub has a built in amp. Basically, they are Digitheaters without the decoder and just take the discrete inputs. A friend of mine bought one......bless him.
