I have been trying to find a DVD player to replace my Samsung 709 for years.

I only have 2 requirements.

1. SVCD support
2. 2xSCARTS

If possible, I didn't want a built in DD decoder, as I didnt' want to pay for something I would't use..

I have been waiting on the Toshiba 510e, but I must admit that RCE bothers me.

I always wanted a Pioneer, but I must admit that I find their lack of FF/Rew speeds a problem (and no zoom either.. Not that I use it, but its nice to have).

I also accepted that I must get DVD-A because I at the price I was going to pay, DVD-A would be standard.

But now that the Pioneers are out, its clear that I can get the 646 without DVD-A in the form of the 545!

I am sure that this is a very able player, but has anyone got any experience with it.

Leading Edge Concepts have it for £280 (inc delivey) and they have offered to throw in the free DVD which they give away with the 444. Thats a bargin....

If I wait for the Tosh, I am only going to get something which does the same (but will have DVD-A , decent FF/Rew speeds and zoom), but is also going to cost an extra couple of hundred quid.

Any feedback about this model would be appreciated

*Cough * DVD forums £260 offer posted a month ago :)

Seriously, consider the Panasonic DVDRA61 thats just become available - DVD Audio, decent search speeds, and twin scarts for £380.

Or go for the DV646 @ £450:D

Panasonics no good, as they don't suport SVCD.

We have a Panasoncic shop in my local town who have all their models and they all treat SVCDs the same.

The play, but they play the video in bursts.

So, you get a bit of video, then a pause, then a bit of video and another pause.

They clearly dont' fully support SVCDs, which is a shame as I was tempted.

Oh yes.. I was going to consider the 646.. Infact, it was a toss up between the Tosh 510 and the Pioneer 646.

But, I don't really want DVD-A. But it looked like to get a player with the features I would want, I would have to have it.

So, I accepted that my next playere would be DVD-A compatable..

But as you can save £200 on the 545 which is effectivly the same as the 646 without the DVD-A, then its tempting.

What was this offer you talk about.. I heard about a 444 offer, but not the 545?
