Im looking at getting the Philips PW6006 widescreen but I need some advice.
Would i be better off paying £200 more and getting a set with Dolby Pro Logic built in, or is it ok to buy an all in one addon to add Dolby Pro Logic in the future ?
How much are you talking for an all in one soulution, and does anyone have any reccomendations ? Are you better off buying seperate amp, speakers ect........ ? Is that a lot more money ?
This will be my first widescreen (finally been sold on them after seeing a friends set) and Im very new to all this home cinema lark.
Will I be at a disadvantage if wish to have a setup that will make good use of my dvd player and tv if the set it only nicam, and upgrade to pro logic in the future ?
It would mean a longer wait if I get an all in one set.
Any help or reccomendations are most appreciated.

If you're planning on getting either an all-in-one or separates in the future then I wouldn't bother getting Pro-logic or Dolby Digital on the TV as it would be redundant.
Pro-Logic is carried in a normal Stereo signal, so you can just feed the stereo audio-out from the TV into whatever Amp/All-in-One you buy, and you'll get Pro-logic that way. Basically, you DON'T need a Pro-logic decoder in the TV if you want to upgrade to Pro-logic in the future.
Unless you've got "Sky Digital+" the best you'll get from TV broadcasts is Dolby Prologic (ie terrestrial and standard digital TV doesn't broadcast in Dolby Digital). Even if you've got Sky Digital+ (which is just starting to broadcast in Dolby Digital) you can just feed the Digital audio output from the Set-Top Box into the amp and you'll get Dolby Digital (if the program is being broadcast in Dolby Digital), so you don't need a Dolby Digital TV.
Pro-logic/Dolby Digital TVs tend to be for people who aren't planning on buying more speakers/amps. The included speakers aren't normally that great, and you'd get better sound from either of an all-in-one or separate speakers/amps
I've got an All-in-One system, the Pioneer NS-DV55 and it's blummin fantastic for the price in my opinion. You can pick them up for about £500 at the moment, and most people reckon you'd need to spending about £700 on separates to get something that sounds as good as it. Plenty of members on the forum have them, and love them. They are reasonably upgradeable, ie you can connect better speakers if you want (the connectors aren't proprietary) and there are plenty of video & audio in/out connectors so you can attach other bits and pieces to it if you wanted.
I believe there's a special offer for forum members running on the Bargains Forum here at the moment somewhere through Upgrade Heaven. Have a look.
If you're buying a PW6006 telly, rather than spending thousands I think you'll be MORE than happy with a good all-in-one.
Cheers,
John

Hi,
A question for John or anyone who can help. I have read in this forum that Dolby Digital or Dolby Prologic TVs are for those people who don't have decent Amp and speakers.
I am looking for a Wide screen TV(32 or 36 inch). At present I have Marantz Receiver and M73 speakers.
Any one who can recommend a good TV for my setup. How about Philips 36PW9525.
Do I need to pay extra and buy the Dolby Prologic and at the end don't use their speakers. What I meant was that I could get the Dolby Prologic effect from my receiver.
Any help/advice will be appreciated.
Cheers

Next you have to get the DVD player and Dolby Digital amp or receiver. Then you get the 5 speakers to go with it, and maybe the subwoofer if the neighbours will allow. Then you have to buy DVD's like there's no tomorrow, even if you don't have time
to watch em all you just keep buying them to fill up those shelves. Then you have to tell the wife and kids why they can't have a holiday this year or why Christmas presents won't be much cop this year. Next the bank manager wants to see you and you have to join DVDaholics anonymous.
Then you have to start thinkng about getting a bigger house with a dedicated cinema room and and a projector because 36 inches just ain't big enough. ENJOY !

Since you have a reciever, you do not need any special functions on your TV to take care of surround sound. In fact a mono TV would do, if you could still get them :)
Basically, if you connect any source that is stereo, VCR, digibox, etc to your receiver you will get pro-logic. As has been explained elsewhere. Pro-logic is matrixed (hidden away) into the stereo signal.
As for DD you will need to connect your DD source ie DVD Player or Sky+ to the reciever using a digital interconnect.
Even if your TV had DD or pro-logic functions. It would be better to ignore them. Turn the sound down on you TV and handle all the Audio through your receiver.

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good Wide screen TV.
I have short listed th following:
Phillips 32"9616, 36" 9525
Toshiba 32ZP18P, 36ZP18P
Sony KV32FQ75 , KV32FX65
I am not sure which one to buy. As different people on this forum all had some kind of problems with each respectively.
What is the difference between KV32FQ75 & KV32FX65.
My main concern is the quality of picture as I can pass the sound through my Amplifier+speakers.
Can some one help me? Please
Where can I buy the cheapest
Cheers

I'm was looking at the Sony's also but was put off recently by something one importer told me.
According to him nowadays all Sony TVs are manufactured underlicense, not actually by Sony. He says they only offer a 7day guarantee and expect retailers to push extended guarantees.
I'm not sure how much of this is true though... you know what salesmen are like !!
Plus I have also noticed that with the Sony's they suffer a lot more from poor geometry than the toshiba.
You can buy these sets fairly cheaply from Hi-Spek in London.

Cost for starters.
The KV32FQ75 is one of the best tellys on the market. It has dual tuners and DRC - its the bees knees. I luv it. Get it if you can afford it.
The only problems I have seen posted about these sets are geometry setup for the FX series but its sortable and a great telly too by all accounts.
There's no problem with warranty period on Sony or anything else. Thats the law.
People here have posted the best price is by price matching Internet Sites with the high street (I mean you can get e.g. John Lewis to price match and maybe get extra warranty too if they sell your model).
Having said how great these sets are I must say if I was looking for a new telly today at this price level I would consider the new RP sets. Check the older threads for the rave reviews on RP.

Hi,
What is RP?

RP=rear projection; speaking of which just ordered a nice 40" Toshiba from QED- with the wife's agreement!!;)
Took her to Curry's to see them 'in the flesh' and she preferred this to the other alternatives; just got to wait for it to come through now.
