Yeap, I agree it beats the Dv737 hands down. HOWEVER, the Dv737 is over a year old based on an old 27mhz video Dac, and the NS900 is 5th gen cutting edge 54mhz video Dac latest out. As such this is NOT a fair comparison between the 2 machines!

I`ve been testing the NS900 this weekend against the new Pioneer DV646D and Panasonic DVDRA61, and the Pioneer knocks the spots of the Sony hands down in audio, and even the Pioneer Dv444/545 match the sonys video performance (they all have the 54mhz video dac). The Pana has the edge for DVD audio over the sonys bright sound.

Now, wait for it, as the Dv737 is discontinued and the new Dv747 has been demoed at the latest hi-fi shows against the sony and other models, and everyones just hgasped at it - worlds only machine that can do DVD-Audio and SACD in one box currently:)

SO, quite the opposite to your run out and buy it (unless you REALLY must have the sony), I`d recommend waiting for the new machines to hit this xmas, as theres a few price drops to be had also in the next month or so:)

As usual, my opinions, and not everyones going to agree - as long as you are happy with it thats all that matters - Persoanally I`m not a Pioneer fan, but I`m waiting for the DV747 to replace my Sony DVPS7700 and pile of crap, overpriced Sony DVP9000ES:)

i tried this machine against the new pioneer with dvd and cd and it still came out on top i also tried against the denon and it out preformed that. dvd audio don't make me laugh the companies that have brought out these machines have rushed these out and they aren't as good as they say as for sacd sony where the inventors of this and as such have the edge over pioneer etc. Try the sony with dvd & cd let it run in for 24 hrs and see & hear the quailty. agree people have different views so we will have to wait and see.

Looks like you didn`t read my reply properly - I HAVE a sony SACD player as my main machine, a Sony DVPS900ES, which has been run for more then 24 hours at a time! Sorry to disagree with you, but the machines I stated in my original post DO outperform the Sonys for audio CD playback (and I`m not a Pioneer fan).

I refered to the new Pioneer DV747A, a machine which has not yet been released (its only been demoed to trade), which I stated was DVD Audio AND SACD. You couldn`t have compared it to this!

If you are happy with it that all that counts, but argueing that because sony invented SACD (joint venture Sony & Philips) makes it better then DVD-Audio is a bit much! Fact is you put a £250 arcam or Marantz stand alone CD-Audio player against the sony and you`ll notice its failings imediatley with a lack of bite and drive. Or compare the Sony with a Toshiba SD510e DVD audio machine even (seeing as you say you tried the Pioneer, but didn`t state which one).

Another point maybe worth considering here, if Sony is so "good" at inventing formats, how come they are currently rebadging Pioneers DVR7000 and DVRA03 as their own machines in Japan:)
Sonys rushing models out this year to catch up with the budget DVD-Audio market started by Toshiba over a year ago, not the other way round:)

Glad that mentioning dvd audio made you "laugh":p Given that DVD-Audio is supported by the majority of brands, and has the larger market slice, SACD is going to be the next betamax :D
