View Full Version : Kenwood KRF-X9050D
Has anyone got one, or know of a link to a review and full specification?
I've seen it listed in Richer Sounds and it seems like a decent amp (considering the other amps in its price group). I am unable to establish how many standard audio inputs it has. I've got a multi CD separate which has an optical out as well as the standard set, and I would also want to add (the DVD player and video obviously) and a turntable for my nostalgic evenings with Vinyl.
It's a bit of a hassle getting to my nearest Richer Sounds in the next fortnight and looking for myself, so any comments or thoughts will be greatly welcomed.
Thanks.
I scanned this in from the latest Kenwood catalogue -

I have the 7050 (One down from the 9050) and it has
Digital connections
2 x Co-axial
2 x Optical
Analogue connections
1 x 6 channel input
1 x Phono input
1 x CD/DVD input
1 x Tape/MD input/output
1 x Monitor input/output
1 x Video input/output (Audio only)
2 x Video inputs (Audio only)
Video connections
5 x S-Video in
1 x S-Video out
5 x Composite in
1 x Composite out
I know it's a different amp, but I'd be very surprised if the 9050 had less connections than the 7050 (In fact, judging from the specs, I have a sneaking suspicion the 9050 is externaly the same design as the 7050 with THX certification and a better remote and that all the differences are under the hood)

Up...because i saw one of these in my local hi-fi shop today (didnt have a look at it though, but it looked the same as all the other kenwoods :p) and im now thinking of getting one soonish as it seems like a decent amp does anyone know what it sounds like?
Ive got a kenwood 5030 which i think sounds pretty good (well for a hundred quid anyway)...but i dont like the lack of power to the sub output, is this one the same?
Well I just found this review (http://www.areadvd.de/hardware/kenwoodkrfx9050d-2.shtml). Only problem is its in German and my German is a bit sketchy to say the least. It seems to give a good overall rating and it lists the analogue inputs (which is what I wanted in the first place!)
Don't know about the Subwoofer output Wattage, although they do use an 800W Yamaha unit in the german review. EDIT - Just had a thought, doesn't the amp just output a low signal for the Sub and the Sub has a built in amp?
I'm gonna try and get to Richer on Thursday in my lunch break so I'll update then. Or I could just phone them and get them to give me a better run down.
EDIT - And this (http://www.areadvd.de/hardware/kenwoodkrfx9050d-1.shtml) page with pictures of front and back. (Well the first pages of the review)

indeed. it outputs a line-level signal and the sub then amplifies this as much as you want it to.

it does have spring clips for the rear speakers though - not as nice as binding posts and you can't normally fit as high a gauge cable into them. the component-video switching would seem a bit superfluous, as i would have thought people who use kit with that sort of connection would be in the market for something a bit better than a 300quid kenwood amp :)

I have read several reviews of kenwoods amps where the sub level output is criticised compared with other amps, so maybe the level of the output is down - as it your sub can only amplify what is given :) - did you get to richers?....if its the leeds branch then i was in there on tuesday and they didnt have one
Sorry, not had a chance yet. I will try tomorrow, but I suspect the shop will be packed. There was a review in the September issue of Home Cinema Choice Magazine. But I can't find a copy of this. I will update this when I have more to add.
