this is probably a very basic question, but i have been offered a decent stereo amp and i was wondering how to connect this to something like a yamaha e800 processor. is it just a case of connecting the front pre-outs on the processor to any of the dual phono inputs on the stereo amp ?

cheers.

Quick answer: yes!

I have the same setup myself, but I use a Yamaha A5 as the processor.

When you first balance the channels, make a mark on the volume knob of the main amp. Then when you want to listen to 5.1 you just reposition the knob so the mark lines up and you are away !
