Mine would have to New York May 19th 1999 to watch the first public screening of

Star Wars Episode 1

Plus it opened on my birthday which was really cool, and it was awesome fun

:notworthy to Jon Cybernet. god knows when, if ever, we're going to see Bubba Ho-Tep over here. :(

i also went to new york in may 1999 to see episode I, but couldn't go until may 31st because of my finals at uni.

when i was a studio guest on 5live, their film critic tried to send me up for it ("a new hopelessness" ... what a wag!) but i managed to take him apart over the 15 minutes that followed.

not sure i'd bother travelling that far again though, and to be fair it was also a six day holiday to celebrate finishing uni.

London to San Diago to see Jay and Silent bob strike back. TBH I was going there anyway but I REALLY wanted to see it.
Otherwise going to camden town to see Chasing Amy (notice a pattern) or some other west end cinema for a freebie.

From England to Florida to see Star Wars Episode 1 the day it came out

Basiclly me and my brother were desperate to see it, so we took a trip to Florida anyway as a holiday with our parents and the day it came out, we went to the nearest cinema to see it, we thought they wouldnt have any ticket left, but they had it on in loads of screens so got in easily. Easily one of the best holidays I ever had.

Oxford to Paris, France to see Shane Black's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Family were going to Paris anyway, and invited me along. I noticed that Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was opening in France before anywhere else.
I paid for the cinema tickets for me and my family to view it there on opening day!

For me it was "Black Sunday" with Robert Shaw back in 1979. I loved the book by Thomas Harris (the same of Lecter fame) and was eagerly waiting for the film, the release of which was delayed by almost 2 years due to political reasons (PLO being depicted as the bad guys was not very acceptable in India at the time). When the film was finally released in Bangalore, I was doing postgrad at a University 220 miles away. Deciding that I had to see it asap, I hurriedly caught an overnight bus on a Friday and travelled just to see the film and get back by Monday morning. After all that effort, I found it well below my expectations.:(
