I have finally seen this, after a local cinema brought it back for one night due to public demand...and I'm so glad they did. Seeing it for the first time has allowed me to enter the magical world of Amélie Poulain, and the characters that surround here.
From Jean-Pierre Jeunet's superb direction to the enchanting narrative, this was one of the best 'feel good' films I have seen for a long, long while.
Looks like I'll be getting the DVD... :D

Well there's the rather nice 2 disc set from DVDSoon for £7.79 ish delivered here (http://www.dvdsoon.com/show-title-details.xml?uid=37243) , a bargain methinks (Obviously as long as you can play R1)
Agreed it's a top film.
Favourite film in the whole wide world. I adore it.

pretty flawless I agree, one incredible film. One quote on one of the cinema posters always described it best for me: "two hours of everything that's wonderful about life and everything that's wonderful about cinema"... :)
It's pretty good but massively overrated. :|
Nice music though.

My other half forced me to watch this - I didn't fancy it as I thought it was going to be rubbish.
As it turned out, she fell asleep half way through, and I watched it, absolutely captivated right to the end. So, I add my recommendation to those above.

I'm not a fan of the genre, but Amélie is such a fantastic film and one of my top ten favourites of all time. Just a sweet, charming story :)
It's one of my favourite ever movies, dragged the missus to see it when we were in Bangkok (weird setting to watch a little French arthouse film, no?) and she was completely captivated too :luv:
Still haven't bought in on DVD yet :help: but I think DVDSoon may well receive an order for the 2 discer from me at that price!:

Just be careful with the R1 packaging, yesterday noticed that my 2nd DVD in the special pack is completely distroyed, as I got it a long time ago cannot even go back to DVDSoon.

I'll go for the R2 2-disc at some point...

"Completely destroyed" MrLondon?
What do you mean - how can packaging destroy a DVD?

SheepDip the way the DVD is stored is completely misdesigned because you have to use extreme force to get the dvd on and off the middle holder and I guess when someone tried to take it off and than put it back in they cracked the middle ring of the dvd that badly that it has cause major damage, so that is the reason for the caution.

Gotcha, I know what you mean now. I've just had a look at my copy and it is bad for that. It's not the worst though - Pitch Black R1 and American Werewolf in London R1 are pretty bad too - badly thought out by the manufacturers methinks.
Thanks for making that one clear:)
I would look a the dvdtimes reviews of Amelie....
I picked up the R2 single disk for 5.99 at play and its a very good disc... picture & sound is great (has DTS)... and has the all important commentary... which I really enjoyed...
The 2 discer is expensive and the extras seem quite lame (see the dvdtimes review).. I would recommend the single disc version.. if you can find a decent price..

Actually, I've just noticed the R2 2 disc set is available at CD-Wow for £8.99 (Cheaper if you have any vouchers).
Sounds a good price, and has DTS (Though this title isn't really a sound-based one so that maybe isn't as crucial).
Good if you can't play R1/have problems with NTSC.

Nice spot SheepDip! I tend to go for PAL over NTSC (just a personal preference as I hate 2:3 pulldown) and as that has DTS too (love that score!)...
yes but look here for picture comparison....

I went for the single disk R2 as it was cheap (as stated above) and because the main extra i like is a commentary.

Like everyone else here I absolutely adore this film. The best word I could use to describe it is delightful, I love everything about it
It's a shame that there are people out there (like some of my friends) who'll refuse to watch this because it's subtitled. they dunno what they're missing
I have to say that I hated every minute of it. But I do concede that it's an extremely well made film.

Amelie is wonderful. The only "romantic comedy" I can actually bring myself to sit through and one of the few films I would give 10/10 to.

Hi there!
Could someone tell me if the subtitles on the UK edition of "Amélie" can be removed?

As Rik said, you can indeed. Plus the R2 two-disc SE has brilliant audio and video, one of my favourite dvd sets (and one of the most frequently watched too!).
