Don't you ask as one of your three questions in the checkout how you found the site? Can't you add the DVD Forums as an option?

Only about 10% of people fill that in, and of that 10%, half of them want one of the following to improve our service:

I thought that best place to ask how many customers from these forums use our service, is here on the forums themselves.

Not asking for free delivery-would be nice:D but cheap shipping like the 99p weekends would be nice as at the moment you get a lot of threads saying just after a 99p weekend that they have just spent £4 on shipping and if they knew there would be another 99p shipping then they would have waited.Understand that if you drop the prices on shipping then you have to make a profit somewhere.I dont know of any company that gives you shipping by courier for under a fiver as well.Welcome back

They are always on order from our supplier. We get them as quickly as we can but however quickly we get them, they sell out!
The CMC coloured 80 min CDR are a slightly higher prices (16p) funky looking alternative.

Oh damn! is there a possiblilty for the Nugen brand then? (www.nugen.net) I used those a few years back and were really good but pricey. :(
Ordered 2 x 25 cakes of printable DVD-R's plus batteries and USB cable Friday lunchtime and went for the £4.99 delivery. Arrived Monday morning 9:10am City Link. Fantastic service.

How long does delivery usually take? I ordered last Saturday, and haven't heard anything exept for the confirmation email.
I used the 99p option - will order again, but use the more expensive options if this length of time is normal.

No , we only ship in the UK.
Our experiences of shipping abroard left us with a feeling that card fraud was even harder to control and foreign couriers were even harder to deal with than UK ones.
We have chosen to fine tune our service to UK and Eire shipping.
Sorry to any members from outside those areas.

I've just received my latest order from svp and amongst my dvd-r's I ordered 2 packs of the 80min cd overprints which were out of stock. So what did svp do? Put me on back order or give me a part refund? both of which I would of been ok. No they give me a free upgrade to memorex cdr's which amounts to about £8 more.
They clearly put customer satisfaction before profit which is the reason why I don't care what the competition are charging. Svp get my vote everytime.
Well done steve and the crew at svp, you really are number 1:clap:
Everytime Ive used SVP they have been spot on thats why I was prepared to pay £5 more for the pioneer 106 when the next 99p shipping weekend happens but as it turns out they are now the cheapest at £89.I would rather buy it from SVP because I know if I have any problems with it I know they will do everything they can to help.Customer service is what makes it on the net.Now if you just had some dvd-ram's in stock but Ive got some now anyway.

Hi
Either a drive problem or a media problem.
Update to latest firmware, use some Ritek media. If the problem persists, I would think about returning the drive.
Might also be worth updating/changing your DVD writing software.
Steve
Made an order yesterday for just over £300 around lunchtime.
My wife just called me demanding to know why such a big box has come home and why I need to be spending money ....
she just doesn'y know a bargain when she sees one...
Thanks very much Steve and all at SVP. This is my second order and I am very happy. More orders to follow esp as soon as you get the USB/firewire enclosure for the 106 writer.

Sorry to jump in, but have you tried burning to the media at a slower speed? I sometimes get power calibration errors when trying to burn cheap media at 2X, but dropping to 1X burns them fine. Better quality media can burn at 4X without problem
Just a thought :)

GMS2502-Im getting the same message in Nero 6 when Im trying to burn dvd-rw's on a Panasonic SW-9581.Ive got 2 of these in 2 pc's.One of them works fine and burns no problem and the other one exhibits these problems. It shows up Power calibration problems or Error-can not perform because of an I/O Error and wouldnt even regonise a dvd when it was put in the drive. It would only basically write cdrw's and read dvd-rw's that had been previously written so long as it was data only.I was only trying to burn at 1x as well.I've now pulled it out of the pc and replaced it with the other one and that works fine so it cant be the pc but the drive. This is the one Im wanting to replace with a Pioneer 106.

I'll ask around our suppliers, but if ever they ask us for more money for the same unit in black, I usually tell them to stick it.
I hate to see a surchage on a drive because its a different colour. (Thats probably why we so seldom have black drives in stock!)

I'll see how they fare. :) I searched DVDR help and they seem to be ok with that writer anyways..

Never understood the fascination with RITEK dye personally - certainly not to the extent of paying OTT priced for the media at least.
I have about the same sucess/failure rate and compatibility with princo media as I do ritek. Yes, they are good disks, but nothing worth discarding all other media for...
Still, whatever floats your boat!

Seems like the right place to sing the praises of SVP again - I posted early on in this thread about 15 dud DVDRs I had purchased (July/August). I contacted SVP and discovered I didnt have my receipt etc. However did they mess me about ? Nope - simply told them when I placed the order and they did the rest - sent me a returns form and a freepost address and within a week I had 15 new DVDRs.
Steve and the gang - excellent customer service - this is why I wont use "the competition".
Cheers

Hi Steve, i have a problem
I sent my Pioneer 105 back to you , as it was continually producing power calibration errors, every disc i burnt coasted with this error during this past month, up until the past month , the drive had not produced 1 coaster in 5 months.
I sent the drive back to you, and i got an email from a member of your staff today saying ' the drive passed all tests and is being sent back to you.'
Now, i have tried every setting imaginable in terms of setting drive to primary/secondary slave/ master, and the drive will not function, i have been using Ritek 04 dvdr discs, i have tried burning at slower speeds, i know when i get the drive back it will not function correctly.
I have even reset my PC to factory settings, so there could be no s/w conflicts, and the same power calibration error occurs, my PC is a P4 2.66 Ghz , so its not as if the pc would struggle to cope with burning a dvdr.
I am using good quality media, but i only get errors, could you provide further assistance, as to be just told the drive is being sent back to me , has not helped solve the problem at all.

Hi
These are awkward situations. Please read the whole of the reply. The last part is as important as the first part.
When we test a drive, we try and look at the issue from the customers point of view.
We use a variety of media from our stock, and do a total of 6 test burns and verifications. If any discs fail to verify, the drive is rejected and a replacement is dispatched.
As we have had no failures when testing your drive and you are getting 100% failures, I think we may have to analyse your setup and configuration. We have no problem with helping you with this. My first instinct would be to take the following steps:
1) Check/replace your IDE leads.
2) Reinstall or change your DVD writing software. (Nero/Pinnacle/Veritas etc) and update to latest version.
3) Confirm the drive is installed as master device on the second IDE channel.
4) Update firmware on drive. (We usually do this during testing as a matter of course anyway). Firmware updates can sometimes resolve PIO/DMA issues.
If the drive is still not behaving, email me personally on steve@svp.co.uk. If I can't solve the problem, I'll replace the drive, but judging by our test results, we should be able to get it working for you.
We make no charge for testing, and we do not charge you for return carriage. We understand that you would not have sent the drive back unless you have a genuine issue, and we will make sure that the issue is resolved one way or another. Ater all - we can't sell you media unless we get you burning DVDs again:)

Hi Shy
I could only locate 2 sources of Black CDR, and one of those turned out to be rubbish, so we took the Traxdata. Even then we could only get a few thousand!
There is no speed rating on the product, but I've used them at 48x without problems.

Thanks for the quick response!! That's what I call service!!
Just received some of those new DVD-Ram cartridges and Traxdata DVD-Rs in slimline cases in under 24 hours. Marvellous service.
Not convinced about those slimline glider cases though - marks the write surface of the disc somewhat as you remove / replace it, which surely can't be a good thing. Are you having any problems with returns based on this?

The glider cases are not the best designed product I have seen. We won't be restocking the discs in that packaging.
If you have any scratched discs, we are always happy to replace them.

That's Petes fish tank and he's very proud of it! He loves sending out DVDs of it.

Hmm, so what's this fish tank DVD then? Do we have to order a DVD Burner to get this state of the art Virtual Fish Tank? :D
Coulda saved myself £10 and not ordered the five Aquaria DVDs from DVDPacific if I had one of those :norty:

Any idea when the Pioneer 106 in Black will be back in stock again?

me too.
Why don't you drop them an email to find out the status. My first order with them was on a 99p weekend and by Thursday it still hadn't arrived. I emailed them Thursday evening. They checked and found out that it had been sent but was delayed by the courier who couldn't find my parcel. SVP then packed another box and sent it express Friday and I got it Sat morning. Top service.
Thanks for the replies. I've just emailed them.
This is getting worse.
First SVP replied to my email saying "You can expect to receive your goods today at the latest".
A few minutes later I got an email from SVP saying "Your consignment should have been with you by now." The included a phone number for the local interlink depot and a consignment number. They wanted me to phone interlink to find out where the parcel is.
I called Interlink who told me they don't have the consignment.
SVP now say that they've spoken to interlink and there is a delay and that I'll get a priority delivery on Monday.
I know most people have had good service from SVP, but I'm not impressed.

Most people who ask for Alphapack want 6/7 disc cases. We are talking to a supplier and also looking for alternatives.
Nothing yet, but we are working on it.

Steve,
If you are interested in stocking the Alphapaks, maybe we should get in touch.
I am currently importing the 6-disc cases

Gotta say - SVP you are without doubt the best online retailer I have ever dealt with, bar none!
Every time I get a problem I become more and more satisfied with the after-sales service received, so its only right I sing your praises once more for everyone to see! :D :notworthy
Had a batch of 50 faulty ICE white 4X disks, where about 50-60% were failing before they would even burn - after only one single email, a courier arrived yesterday with an alternate brand of disk (of my choosing!) and to collect the faulty ones! I didn't even need to plod down to the post office. Really can't ask for any more than that - simply awesome service.
Quite Simply you rock!
Is there an ETA on the black pioneer 106?
It's now gone from your site, when once it said "out of stock". does that mean it's gone for good?

So this is your reply to my first email, so why wasn't it delivered on the 6th like your email above told me it would be.I have better thing to do than sit at home waiting for deliverys that im told are going to turn up.
So i take it i will be getting my next day delivery charge refunded.

If you look more closely at the site it states orders placed before 2pm will be dispatched same, if you selected 'Special Delivery' which going by the tracking number above your order will be delivered next working day which will be Monday before 12pm.
Special Delivery is only a guaranteed delivery service Monday to Friday , Saturday is not classed as a guaranteed delivery day and is certainly not classed as a ‘Working Day’ for most internet company’s, so I can’t really see anything that SVP has done wrong?
If you wanted Saturday delivery and you knew your missed the 2pm deadline (which you stated above) on Thursday for next day delivery I would have personally phoned SVP up and asked them if there was a Saturday delivery option for an extra fee. Just a bit of common sense really when you look at it. Rizel

I must say I'm not impressed with their standards at the moment. I placed an order on the 20th of November, and by Dec 2nd I still hadn't recieved it. I emailed them and they sent out another batch (the first one apparently lost by Royal Mail) on Wednesday which I've still not yet recieved :oh-hum:
I got a refund on my shipping though (which I had to request twice), and to their credit they did answer the emails pretty quickly, but that does me little good when it's taken over 2 weeks so far.
SVP - May I recommend that you send out an email confirming despatch when you've despatched an order? At least that way we can have a rough estimate of how long it'll take to reach us. I'm completely in the dark at the moment as to when my DVD's are going to arrive.
Also, what exactly is your policy on faulty DVDs that come to light after the 30 day period? I bought a few DVD's from you a couple of months back (flawless service then ;)), but about 1/3 of the DVD's were 'corrupt' and refused to record (I'm using a Panasonic E30). I always make sure the surfaces etc are clean and only take the discs out of the packaging when I'm about to use it, but I didn't expect the failure rate to be so high (mind you, I've only use about 10 so far, 3 of which were corrupt)

I have never had any problems with SVP in the past. But if you get an email telling you it will be there before 12, you expect it to be there.
Just stuck the tracking number into RM's track & trace and they are showing it to be delivered by midday 08/12/03. As mentioned earlier, RM Special Delivery will not guarantee delivery on Saturdays, only Monday to Friday, which may or may not be a factor.
Hope that is of some help,

Hi.
Point taken and agreed with. For reference, Special Delivery do not offer a guaranteed Saturday service. Items dispatched
by Special delivery on a Friday are guaranteed for Monday, but are sometimes delivered on a Saturday. Our staff should not have used the word "tomorrow" for a Friday dispatch. They should have said Monday.
I'll arrange a refund for the carriage.

If you choose Royal Mail as your delivery option, you should get the goods within 3 working days of placing the order. (Its usually 1 or 2 working days, but lets say 3 as its December) If you havn't got the goods at that time, email us.
If we can see the goods have been dispatched but Royal Mail do not have a record of delivery, we will send replacements (What more can we do?)
If the problem repeats itself we should be double checking all the address and postcode details. Please email us at sales@svp.co.uk with a brief explanation of the problem and confirm the delivery address. One of our staff will investigate from there.
PS. We are putting the technology in place for sending dispatch emails, but its not ready yet.

No problem. The 30 day "No quibble" warranty means that you can return goods up to 30 days after purchase for any reason (Surplus to requirements, don't like the colour, bought he wrong type etc etc) This is backed up by your 1 year warranty against faulty goods.
Email us with your order number (or failing that - delivery address details inc postcode) and date of order if you have it.

Hi Damon
I had a look.
I think our +R prices and selection are excellent.
There are a number of +R discs that we have chosen not to sell.
The ones we do sell have been tested and we are very happy with them. We feel they are better value for money than some of the "cheaper" discs that other sites are offering.
I would personally only use CMC, Ritek and Ricoh dye DVD+R from the cheaper end of the market.
I try not to sell any product that I wouldn't use myself.
Steve
Can you get hold of some 6 DVD cases and even some 7 DVD cases? The manufacturer for these are called AlphaPak I believe.
I know that a lot of people are interested in these and none of the other DVD Media e-retailers are stocking them so you would be the first. You would certainly get an order from me then :)

Hey TC :)
We've looked at the Alphapaks, but I just can't see enough people buying them at £2+ per case.
Instead, we are looking for another cheaper 6 way DVD case. Probably be an Alphapak clone sort of thing. It may not be of quite the same quality, but it should be a fraction of the price. It will take several weeks, but we are working on it.
Steve

Any use?

Thanks Steve, but I need the Memorex ones as they are for other people.
Also, any ideas when you'll get the A106 back in stock. I need one of those too.
Thanks.
Steve do you know when interlink are open again?
I ordered in your £1.99 shipping but missed the courier who left a note saying they'll not try to deliver it again and to get in touch with the depot within 5 working days or it will be sent back to you.
Anyway I tried ringing them that afternoon (23rd) and christmas eve and today but the phone just rings, theres no answerphone and the website doesn't have dates either.
Just don't want my order to have to be resent.
Cheers
(hope you had a good christmas)
I think Interlink are closed until 5th of Jan:
http://www.interlinkexpress.co.uk/christmas.htm
Does that mean that the order i placed yesterday wont be collected until the 5th
D.E., thanks for that but were the hell did you find that link? Theres nothing obvous on their site (or am I being thicker than normal:nuts: )

Hi Guys
Interlink are a sister company to Parceline (Both owned by GeoPost)
In some parts of the country, the parcels we are sending out between Christmas and New Year will be delivered by Parceline, and in others it will be by Interlink, but the time taken to deliver should be as normal.
Express courier:1 or 2 working days.
Economy courier: up to 4 working days.
Any problems that anyone has are best solved by emailing us at sales@svp.co.uk. Remember to include your order number and your delivery address.
Steve
PS. Dilly: Pioneer A07/107 comes out in Jan, so not sure if we will get the Pioneer A06/106 back in before that. (Depends on prices and availability)
Thanks. I'll drop you a mail in a few days to check the latest.

Hi GMS2502
Happy New Year:)
Yes, they will be back soon.
Until then, we do have this disc with the same dye:
{DV 3060** 1x-2x RITEK OVERPRINTS 4.7GB DVD-R disc in Packs of 25
Some people are reluctant to try overprints, but remember, we do guarantee all our media, and we have considerable confidence in the quality of these discs. (Many retailers sell this media without declaring they are overprints!)

I'm in the middle of trying to organize an RMA for a 3.5" USB enclosure, but because it's more than 30 days old I'm told I can only get a replacement. Since I bought a Belkin enclosure to test that my system was working properly a replacement is pretty useless to me.
Is replacement my only option? Am I better off just binning the faulty enclosure? :(

Hi Donty
You're quick, we only ran out of the CMC discs an hour ago!
They were a slow seller. I may restock them if I can buy them at a price that will allow them to compete with the Ritek discs. (The last batch were sold below cost to clear them)
Shame they are not a bigger seller, as they are a good disc.
I'll see what I can do.
Steve
will do. (when i get home).
My fault. i selected the wrong shipping option in my excitement.
Thanks for looking into it for me Steve.
Just a thought:
It would have been useful if i had received an email notification that i had chosen an incorrect shipping option so that i could have re-ordered correctly rather than the order being kept in limbo until i made enquiries though.

Hi Martin
We do send a mail in these situations.
Apologies that you do not appear to have received that mail. Perhaps Yahoo filtered it into junk or mailbox was full?
Glad its been sorted now anyway (not bad even for us..3 exchanges of emails and a solution 25 minutes after you posted on a public forum!)

cool. i still have a few from the 75 i ordered @ £16ish for 25. i'll hold out for these disks before buying anymore. i've found over and over again that they are better than the riteks in my sony writer. - any chance of a similar price again tho? :p

Yeah I went to order some before I posted and they werent there anymore... shame on me :)
I actually find the performance of them better than riteks burning @ 4X, probably due to the inconsistences of some ritek 4x batches. (ritek still fine but not a perfect burn) They also much better than ritek on my Sony but its the other way round on my pioneer.
I have to agree that with the price of riteks where/are cmc where dead in the water espeically when they are unbrandable if they are the same price. I have given some cmc unbranded blanks to my friends to try and they believe they would buy them if they were not fingermarkable. Maybe this is why they were not selling well?
Thanks.

Ritek Orange (Overprint) 4x 4.7GB DVD-R
DATAWRITE 4x YELLOW 4.7GB DVD-R
BULKPAQ ORANGE 4x 4.7GB DVD-R

Having literally just aqcuired my PC I have now started using these forums for real (especially as I have now setup broadband) largely due to raving recommendations from a friend. I think these forums are fantastic.
Already I am finding the need to store data and files onto CD's so following the big recommendations of most of the people on here I purchased 100 x {CD 162** CMC COLOURED Unbranded 80min CDR plus assorted extras from theblankdiscshop.co.uk or svp.co.uk.
All arrived well but the problem I had was the discs just don't get recognised in my CD writer/ or by Nero. They offered to courier me new disks as a replacement, same as discs as before (so fingers crossed I just had a bad batch!) but after redirecting the delivery to another address (my mothers) the goods/courier never showed, leaving my mother to waste a day waiting in doors when she had chores to really go out and do. The matter is not resolved yet but I am very peeved to say the least. I only hope that the courier was at fault becuase right now I'm under the impression that on my first ever order ..... SVP does not live upto recommendations.
Should they redeem themselves I'll be the first to sing their praise.
Untill then ...
Yours truely disgruntled,:oh-hum:
K
Well SVP are the best out, i've used every other re-seller, but always come back to SVP, been using them for around 3 years now, has'nt always been problem free, but if problems arise they are sorted qucikly with miniumal hassle to me, and there free returns is also a great addition.
If the courrier does'nt turn up then its not usually SVP fault, i had this once and they faild to turn up 4 times!!
They came in the end after SVP kept rining them to remind them every hour!! Rizel

Hi Plugus Maximus
Sorry to hear that you are having problems.
The coloured CMC discs are some of the best value CDR we have sold. I am stunned that you are having any problem with them.
First question, although it counds a little silly, are you putting in the discs the right way up? The coloured side of the disc is actually the side the laser in your CD writer writes to, so the disc goes in "coloured side down". Some of my staff forget what its like to be new to computing and might not have thought to mention this.
On the delivery/redirection to your mothers house issue...can you email me the ticket number so that I can have a look? My personal email address is svpcomm@hotmail.com.

Hi Repo
We never really know when the cheap shipping will be. It only happens when we are 99% up to date with dispatches, 99% up to date with emails, and have a full bunch of weekend staff.
Pioneer 106s: I'm making enquiries, but I think they should be cheaper now than before Christmas. The dollar rate is better and the 107 is pending release.... so why are Pioneer 106s costing the same/more from the wholesalers than they were 3 weeks ago? I can't see a reason, so I'm still looking.
I did locate some NEC1300A 4x +/- writers at a good price. They are (in my opinion) an excellent alternative to the Pioneer. The last 3 firmwares have all been excellent, giving almost perfect disc compatibility. When they arrive later this week, they will be sold at under £70.
I'm also impressed so far with the NEC 2500. We've sold quite a few already, so there is probably someone on this/other forums that can give you some independent feedback. NEC specify that the drive will write at 8x using Mitsubishi 4x DVD-R, so we tested with a Verbatim 4x DVD-R from our stock, and sure enough, 8 minutes later it was finished and played back fine.
Steve
Steve,
I really want to buy a pioneer 106 from you. However, I know the 107 is die out soon and obviously the price will drop. You wouldn't happen to know, or be able to say how much and when would you ? :) You have it at £83.48 and it is out of stock, do you knwo when it will be back in ?
Thanks,
Andrew
EDIT - just read the above post and see you are looking into it

Steve, can you guarantee that the Datasafe 4.7g DVD+RW (2.4X) Overprints in packs of 10 really are RICOHJPNW01.
I say that because I bought some Datasafe overprints before and they had no Media code/Manufacturer ID at all, and weren't compatible with all my DVD players.
But Datawrite 4.7g DVD+RW discs (2.4X) (White/Silver labels) that I have bought previously (but can't find anymore) are RICOHJPNW01 and work on every machine I've chucked them at.

Just wanted to thank Steve and the gang at SVP. This is probably my sixth or seventh order (lost count now) and the only difference with each order is that they are getting larger in value. :notworthy :notworthy
Steve, you should slowly branch out and start selling more products. Eg: compatible printer cartridges are a related sideline and would probably sell well. I know you do sell these already but your prices need to come down to compare with the like of choice stationery and pheonix direct.

In this sale you had the TDK CD/DVD Label Printer for around £50.
I was wondering if you were going to do this again (I can't realy justify spending any more on a printer with such limited funcionality).
Just thought I'd ask
Cheers
