I'm after a cheap Sub and wondered if anybody had any experience of the Aiwa TSW37 they sell for £40 at Richer Sounds. (or any other cheapish sub anyone can recommend)

Sorry, not an answer to your question but a similar style query.

I was wondering if there is a huge difference between a £40 sub and a £200 sub. Is the more expensive one 5 times better?

Hi-fi and home cinema gear follows the law of diminishing returns i.e. something that costs twice as much is never twice as good. However, in answer to your question, a £200 sub will generally be better than a £40 and probably by quite a lot. The favourite sub on this forum for under £200 seems to be the Paradigm PDR10 available from Richer Sounds I believe.

I use one of the £40 RS subs attached to a mini-system in the bedroom - it's not bad for that, guess it depends on the rest of your system.

My setup I want to use the sub with is;
Sony STR-DB1070
Wharfdale Diamond 7.1 fronts
Eltax HT-2 Centre
Sony Rears
just not sure how the £40 sub will fit in

As someone else using Wharfedale Diamond 7.1s (Pros in my case) as fronts, I will tell you that adding a sub will make a huge difference to the performance of your system. I originally bought a Velodyne CT80 (the equivalent of 300 quid in Oz) but very quickly upgraded to a Mirage BPS150 (500-ish quid) because the low frequency response wasn't quite there (a problem all cheap subs have). It cost more than the rest of my speakers put together but it was worth it because it will allow me to spend less on upgrading my speakers in the future (I won't have to buy full-range tower speakers, and can buy the cheaper bookshelf models in the same range instead).

Hi , thanks for your replys, after speaking to the sales person in RS I've decided not to bother with the Aiwa sub as i do not think it will make much of a difference. www.qed-uk.com have a Eltax Atomic 6 for £56 does anybody know if these are anygood or not?
Thanks
