View Full Version : Please recommend a DTS receiver and speaker combo
It's got to the point where I can't tolerate Prologic any more, and want to ascend to the heady world of DTS (but don't let my other half know). Now, neither of my players has DTS or DD decoding onboard, so I reckon I need to get a DTS receiver and connect via optical out. I'll also need a 5.1 speaker package. Floorstanders would be inconvenient, but are possible.
Now I don't want to prostitute myself on the altar of Mammon, but don't want to get a Digitheatre or other all-in-one solution either. I think a basic set up will cost about £300 from Richer Sounds, but am sorely tempted by the Mission FS2AV partnered with a Sony STRDB940. I'd rather not let the wanton side of me win here - just how big a difference will there be between entry level separates and the mission/sony setup? And what would people recommend for a medium budget of £500 or so?

Soemthing like a Yamaha RXV420RDS & yamaha NSP220 Speaker / active sub for about £400. The Missions are fine, but not really an ideal partner for the Sony Amp:(
If spending about £500, something like a Mission Cinema 6 pack (if yuo can find one!) and a marantz SR4200 / Harmon Kardon AVR3000 would be the best for both surround and Hi-Fi duties. If only wanting surround, then the Sony 940 is fine, or a Yamaha DSPAX620.
Cheers:)
Thanks for the info Justin. You have now broadened the field to about 10 different amp/speaker combinations!
Anyone else got any more suggestions? I don't want to have to upgrade for a while, so something fairly futureproof...

If you are looking into the Mission 6 pack, I think I saw it on either www.empiredirect.co.uk or www.unbeatable.co.uk for about £250 I think, I'm looking at doing the same thing myself, have a look at the price of a Denon 1602 aswell on there as theyre about £230 which is meant to be a good reciever.
