My centre speaker is placed on top of the TV,but occasionally I detect vibration via the television casing.

Is there anything I can put underneath the speaker to prevent this?

And also where do you place your centre speaker for maximum clarity?

Thanks guys and girls

Blobs of blue tak should isolate the speaker a bit better.

I have my centre speaker on top of the telly with little rubber feet underneath. It's angled at the sofa ... I did try it under the TV, in the cabinet, but it sounded crap there.

Didn't your speakers come with stick on pads for exactly this purpose ? You can buy stickon pads.
;)

Bluetack indeed

Gotta go with Bap on this one, been using Blu-Tak for years to keep speakers isolated and in the case of a centre on a TV, in place!

I personally have the speaker just under the TV for various reasons and it is at a good height, so sounds fine. I got little stick on feet with mine too.

In fact, my rears are stuck to their stands with blu-tak still!!

Yes I use those little stick on feet but they were about a millionth of a metre thick.

Found a solution that so far seems to work.

I work in the dry cleaning trade and have used an offcut of press padding.

Maybe my imagination but sounds are coming out clearer with no distortion.

Also as regards placement spoke to some guy in local hifi shop and he puts his centre speaker behind him on a shelf.

Oh well, the search for perfection continues

I fixed a sturdy (it'll hold up to 180kg!) shelf which protrudes about 2' from the wall and the underside of which is 1/2" above the TV. The shelf is a cut-off from a 35mm kitchen worktop wrapped in black cloth. The speaker is 'spiked' which sit in spike cups with rubber feet. The back is slightly higher than the front to angle down at the main listening position.

Thanks guys, just watching The Abyss and it sounds excellent.

I am going to patent this press padding and make a fortune.

While I am here a good film I recommend

'Very Annie Mary'

'A word of mouth film' if ever I saw one

I use Bluetack underneath my speaker aswell and I have no problem with vibrations.

It depends how hollow your tv is aswell. That can cause vibrations which can effect how secure your speaker can be.

The distortion as you described it as is it fact, frequencies between 80Hz and 100Hz, where it will resonate into the TV cabinet much like an enclosure for a loudspeaker.

Best way around this is to build a sound stage right across the width of the front, keep it about ½ and Inc above the TV monitor, so that you can slide it out.

Another good one is squash balls cut in half. Works a treat
