just recieved my third jvc and they all have the same problem, at both sides of the screen there is a waffel pattern effect for about five cm, then the screen is normal. does anyone know if this can be fixed using the service menu?

has anyone experienced anything like this?

Not sure what you mean by a "waffel" pattern but if you mean line distortion the majority can be taken away by the service menu,I own this TV and have sorted mine out to a more than satisfactory level.
