Well, I've bought one now. Tried to get it from John Lewis, but they don't have any stock in right now and by the time they do the price-match offer will have expired. Anyway, purchased it from unbeatable.co.uk - roughly £415 inc. delivery, which is still £85 cheaper then the RRP.
Anyway, I'd just like to thank those who encouraged me to check it out, and to warn them that if it's crap, they're dead. :D
Oh, and I checked the TV out in John Lewis' demo-room first. It does appear to be excellent - no geometry problems evident, a very detailed picture, crisp sound, awesome menus, many widescreen modes (including 14:9), a built in AM/FM radio, top mounted controls, side mounted A/V inputs (as well as those on the back) and an OK-ish open stand with a glass shelf. Anyone looking for a cheap 28" widescreen could do a lot worse.
