Well, I've bought one now. Tried to get it from John Lewis, but they don't have any stock in right now and by the time they do the price-match offer will have expired. Anyway, purchased it from unbeatable.co.uk - roughly £415 inc. delivery, which is still £85 cheaper then the RRP.

Anyway, I'd just like to thank those who encouraged me to check it out, and to warn them that if it's crap, they're dead. :D

Oh, and I checked the TV out in John Lewis' demo-room first. It does appear to be excellent - no geometry problems evident, a very detailed picture, crisp sound, awesome menus, many widescreen modes (including 14:9), a built in AM/FM radio, top mounted controls, side mounted A/V inputs (as well as those on the back) and an OK-ish open stand with a glass shelf. Anyone looking for a cheap 28" widescreen could do a lot worse.

Did they have the 32" version on display? I'm very tempted by Unbeatables price, but I'd prefer to see it up and running first!

Cheers

Yeah, it's a very nice telly for the price. I've got one of them and love it. Damn right about the absence of geometry problems, it's got the straighest edged 4:3 mode I've seen yet on a Widescreen.

Just one point Darth Si, the radio is FM only, not AM/FM. Don't suppose that'll bother you too much though :)

I didn't bother with the stand myself though, works out at nearly £100 when you compare the price with/without stand.

As for the 32" version Mrpecanpie, it should be even better. It's got the next Philips tube up from the 28" version. The 28" has a blackline FX tube, the 32" has a blackline S tube (the same, but adds a Comb Filter and Scan Velocity Modulation). Haven't seen it in person though, so don't flame me if it turns out to be nasty :p

Hmmmmm, I'm wondering if I should have gone for the 32" now. I was only going to spend £400 or so, but it's so cheap for what it is, I'm tempted to cancel my order and get this baby instead. Damn, I can't even really afford it, but I want it so bad. Oh well, 28" should be enough for any man :D
