Hi,

Forgive me if this is an obvious quesion.

I have a decent pair of Hifi speakers and a decent TV. In my new house I'm going to have to place the speakers pretty close to the TV (30-50cm). Is this too close? What kind of damage might I do by placing them too close? Any advice much appreciated.

thanks,

James

If they are too close and your speakers are not mag-shielded then you're gonna get discolouration at the sides of your TV.

50cm *should* be far enough away, but if you notice the picture start to discolour at the edges, especially noticeable on a white background, then you're gonna have to move them or buy some mag-shielded ones.

There should be a little sticker on the back of the speakers which will tell you how far away you need to keep them.

Even some magnetically shielded speakers have a minimum distance specification so take care otherwise you will need to have your telly de-gaussed on a regular basis or at worst you will
screw the set up big time.

agreed, but i often find a blue makes the distortion easier to see - in fact any primary of the rgb would probably excentuate (sp?) the distortion most if there is any - of course if you put the speakers down and theres distortion, then no damage has been done - its just leaving them there for ages that will mess things up.
