Hey folks,

VERY new to this Surround sound 5.1 game - but got a Sony 710 player and a Paramount set of 5.1 speakers and amp - so we're not talking top of the range here ;)

However I get little sense that the sub is actually doing anything !

On the THX-optimode when it throws sound through each speaker individually, there is a low rumble. However on the Paramount set-up it doesn't actually make any sound at all.

Is there anyway that I can crank up the sub to get it a bit more "boomy" and active ?

Made sure everything is connected properly, but maybe I'm expecting too much from it, is the whole point of the sub to provide a subtle low bass - or should it be rattling the floorboards !

I realise this is a pretty base question - but hey ! Any help gratefully appreciated :D

ummm... im looking at 5.1 setups atm, and from what i gather you`d get an active sub (i.e. a sub with an amp in it) and set how loud you want it actually on the sub box itsself, as the sub output from the av decoder/amp isnt actually loud enough.

That certainly makes sense, this sub is literally just a big black box with two leads in the back :) So maybe I'm expecting too much from it (was very cheap !)

Thanks for the reply :D

Passive subs in a HT system are a waste of money, no matter how cheap they are.

So am I expecting too much ?

All I get is this low rumble - I just want to crank it up - but can't find anyway of doing this.

Even got one of those damn Ultimate Platinum dics cause I thought it would sort it somehow, but to no avail...

I had one of these for a while (took it back for a refund because the sub buzzed).

I seem to remeber options to adjust the level of the sub; could be a case of re-reading the manual!

Didn't actually get a manual with mine RAP - so that's maybe the problem in the first place !

Ah well - thanks for all responses...

You could try upping the sub-output Db level in your receivers setup menus, dunno if it'd make a lot of difference though. Best bet would be to return it and put the money towards an active sub.
