Now up for order at Yes Asia (http://global.yesasia.com/assocred.asp?LU83C65N+http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1002912534/section-videos/code-w/)

Hopefully it'll be up there with Musa and Hero and of course it stars the lovely Vicky Zhao Wei. :luv:

A Columbia Tristar release so should be pretty decent on picture sound.

I really liked this. Very similar in some ways to Musa but, for me, I found it better.

Nice performances from the male leads, Zhao Wei's just there for a bit of eye-candy; a couple of nice fight scenes and a good story

I watched the mainland DVD a couple of months back that was dirt cheap so I don't think I'll be paying $21 for this, even with the anamorphic transfer :(

You watched the mainland version. How's your Mandarin? :suspect:

Well, just barely....

Awesome I saw a trailer for this a while back. Looks like it could be a flawless victory.

Anyone watched it yet?

Any more impressions on this film yet? I'll probably place an order for it very soon having watched the trailer and being fairly impressed by it.:)

Sorry to say I was really disappointed with this film, it just didn't get me interested with its boring plot and I didn't think much of the characters either. Once the end started to unfold I just switched off as it was really getting ridiculous - not sure what was up with the crappy SFX either, it didn't look like a low budget film.

Was really hoping the film China put forward to the Oscar's would be as enjoyable as last years. :brickwall

Ah, that's a shame. I was wondering why the release was so low key.

I'll watch it when I can.

Just finished watching this.

The film starts off quite well and really feels like a traditional cowboy film - the kind starring Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin for example. You could say it is an Eastern Western :D

Then it disintergrates into the hokum not dissimilar to the ending of Raider of the Lost Ark. Fair enough I thought - but the ending!! :| The ending was dreadful. It's as if the director gave up on the film and decided to go home. It could have been a very decent film - but now I would call it merely average.

Vicki was rarely used and they really should have shown more of the bath scene  :suspect:

Ono gives this 5 out of 10. Shame.

Yeah if they fixed that the film would be sorted :D

I had high hopes and was as disappointed as you are. It's kinda embarrassing that they put it forward for an Oscar:o. Fingers crossed for "Lovers" I guess.

Green Tea was a far more worthy film to put forward for the Oscars IMHO.

That stars Vicki too :D

Yeah definitely agree, also loved Doyle's cinematography in it. Looks like oscar worthy Chinese films are getting stereotyped at the moment - after Crouching Tiger and Hero they probably feel they have to put forward the "epic film".

Ditto, I really enjoyed this up to the very end. Definetly a wasted opportunity, after the good build up to the fortress scene :(
It should have been half an hour longer and the two main protagonists should have met in the capital, rather than the cop out fortress ending. Everything seemed to be building up to a showdown in the capital and although I didn't think there would be a battle, I was hoping for some sort of climatic ending.

I was on ********* and saw the 2 disk DVD for Hero

http://www.*********.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=14726.

I recently read something about Quentin Tarantino fronting the USA release of the film and have heard a few other things about the film, which has made me curious about the film, so was wondering if somebody could tell me what the film/DVD was like and whether or not I should buy the film

You seem to have found your answer already HERE (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=230752) - but suffice to say that Hero is inifinitely better that Warriors of Heaven & Earth.

When the hell is the Extended version of Hero going to hit dvd ?

It's been released on the EVD format, but I can't find anyone selling it or an EVD player anywhere (inc ebay)

It's hard to say with these films where the actors try to speak a non-native language.
e.g. Koreans trying to speak Chinese in Musa, etc.
I liked Musa. I won't be buying Warriors of Heaven & Earth.

HiViZone (http://www.hivizone.com/index2.htm) sells the Shinco EVD-8830 DVD/EVD-player, including the extended Hero EDV-disc.

Quick question:

Which region do most of you have for Warriors of Heaven and Earth? Is it the HK Region 3? If so, there aren't any audio/visual probs are there? Cheers...

PS: What are the other regions like?

I got the Korean R3 and it was pretty much perfect picture/subs wise.

In a similar fashion to other Columbia Tristar releases the regions get pretty much the same version so I say go for the cheapest as the film is total cack.

I had the HK disk at one point and IIRC that was pretty good too but like Ono said the film isn't actually very good anyway
