I too would like info on the m series - especially the floorstander (m73s??)

Are these meant to be a replacement to the 702es?
And if so are they any better?

Cheers

I own a pair of the M73s - lovely speakers - anything you want to know in particular let me know. They are the 'upgrade' to 702s etc. I managed to get mine for 140 for the pair and at that price I would be as daring as saying that they are untouchable, but that was a few months ago.

As with all Missions, they give a big bang for small bucks (and a fairly small enclosure too).

hi just

Did you by chance manage to demo the 702e? Is it worth the £40 or so extra??

What are they like for bass?

Cheers

No I didn't try out the 702s, they seemed to be out of stock at Richer at the time. Whether they are worth the 40 extra is a tricky one. The Mxx range is the 'new generation' of Missions, using the latest materials and ideas, so from that point of view I would have thought that the 40 quid would be money well spent (but then it is nearly 50% on top).

The bass is plentiful, but can be controlled nicely by using sponge bungs on the main rear port (which ports the actual speaker enclosure) and a plastic cap on the lower bass port (which is purely reactive as the lower half of the cabinet is well segregated from the top half. I tend to have the bungs out and the caps in (ooer), but you need to be careful how close to the wall they are positioned etc in order to avoid boom.

I have them hooked up to a Sony 1070 with a Tannoy MXC centre. This package works nicely and the Sony can give the Missions the power they need to produce an incredibly detailed soundstage using just a medium sized cone and single tweeter.

sounds good!
I too have a 1070 - from the currys fiasco but is still in its box can you believe!

Anyhow I was also thinking of the tannoy centre but was worried about being inconsistant as they being different brands?!

Too be honest, I dont think ill be able to demo any of the equipment as my local richers is pants.

Do you notice any tonal differences in the speakers?

cheers

Lots of people use the Tannoy centre as its generally recognised as an excellent speaker for the money and sounds neutral in most set ups.

I have one with my M74's as the M7C1 is probably the worst centre speaker I have ever seen. My friend uses one with a pair of £1000 B&W CM4's and its sounds good in that as well.

I also use Tannoy MX1's as rears and the whole set up sounds ace (amp is denon AVC10SE). If you have to buy blind, you won't be disappointed :)

Yep, got to agree with UT there, the MXC is a stunning speaker for the money. I had to go for the Maple for looks, but if you go for the Oak (which is nearly black) it can be had for less than 70 quid delivered from Unbeatable, I think.

The Tannoys and the Missions complement each other well tonally and the control that the 1070 gives you over levels and tonal cut points means you can play around with the setup even more until you are happy with the cross-stage sound.

I have the exact same setup as this, but my stuff is all in transit from the UK to Finland so I haven't been able to try it yet.... needless to say, I'm itching to give it a try :) From what I read, the mxC and the Missions all blend rather well. I had to buy blind, but after the Sony Pascal's I don't think I'll be disappointed :D

after wandering down Tottenham Court Road am now torn between these and the flat fs2 speakers.

I liked the smaller size of the M71 versus the M72 and M73 speakers (don't want to take up too much of the room). Just need to decide between an m71, m7c (or tannoy MXC) and 7ds pack or the flat panels) - more decisions. Price wise not too dissimilar in the end - with the offers on everywhere.

Will have to have a think.
