View Full Version : Philips 32PW6515. Is this NTSC compatible ?
I've decided to buy the above TV over the 32PW6006 as it's out of stock.
But I've noticed that the 32PW6515 doesn't have NTSC mentioned in it's spec but only PAL/SECAM. Does this mean that I won't be able to play R1 Discs as the TV doesn't output NTSC.

Nah, it's NTSC compatible (through the Scarts anyway).
Word of warning, a LOT of people have suffered from poor picture geometry (4:3 picture is very bendy) and blocky picture processing faults with the PW6515. If it works fine it's a lovely TV, but unfortunately a lot don't work fine. See if you can check one out in a local store before buying.
I would be surprised if the 6515 didn't accept NTSC signals as its cheaper siblings do.If it didn't then it would depend on what your DVD player is capable of outputting for NTSC discs. Many players will play NTSC as PAL60 which the TV should be OK with.
Be aware that there have been problems with the Philips 6515 models. They may have been sorted but if you search for the 6515 model on www.homecinemachoice.com bulletin board you will find several owners that have had the same problems.
Here you are - to save the trouble of searching i have found the main thread for you trouble with 6515 thread (http://www.avforums.com/frame.html?http://www.avforums.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=7&t=000887)
Just so you know what to look out for if you buy one ;)
Cheers JJ and simes 4 the info.
I went via Currys on the way home last night and viewed the 28 inch model in the 6515 spec. The problem with the 4.3 mode is still visible.
JJ - have you managed to get the 6006 yet? If so does having a lesser flat screen resolve the 4.3 problem.
I think I might hold back on the 6515 for now until the 6006 is back in stock @ unbeatable.

Yeah, I've got my 28PW6006
The picture edges are as straight as I've seen on a widescreen set. It's one of the reasons I got it this set, as I watch so many old 1960s TV programmes. Can't go having bendy screen edges now, and god forbid using one of those 'stretchy 4:3 -> 16:9 modes' ;)
You sometimes get a temporary slight wibble (and I'm talking millimetres) at the edge of high contrast parts of the image, but that happens on all CR TVs (and is normally hidden on conventional 4:3 tellys by the slight overscan). Under normal circumstances they're as straight as a ruler.
I had to wait a good two weeks for my 6006 to get in stock at Unbeatable, but it was worth it. The fact that they always seem to be out of stock probably says something about popularity of the telly :)
John
Thanks JJ
I'll have to way 3 weeks for the 6006 to be back into stock.
The 6515 is in stock and the revamped model without the 4.3 problem so I've been told by Unbeatable.
Arr Decisions...Decisions....

Some info you may find useful;
A friend of mine (honestly! This isn't a 'I heard it from a bloke down the pub' story!) bought one from Unbeatable two weeks ago and it still had the 4:3 problems.
Did they tell you when they received the new improved stock?
JJ
Just spoke to them again, Laura or was it Kim.
She said the ring Philips CS on 0208 605 6350 and confirm with the manufacturers.
I mentioned that I was told this morning that it was the revamped model. She hadn't a clue if the one in stock was old stock or if any of their new stock would be the new improve stock....
