You can't get it in a box set.

The cheapest online deal at the moment is dvdpacific (as long as you can play R1 discs) they are about a tenner each.

You could mooch through the classifieds to see if anyone has them for sale. (I know Rumbletum has lots of stuff for sale also, although no Excel Saga as I bought it off him! ;) )

If so could you please put my newly updated thread (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=3501437#post3501437) there?

i think the first 4 R2 UK disks of Excel are in Play's ADV sale/offer (2 for £22).

It's on every morning at the moment on sci-fi (i think it's timed to finish about the same week that ADV release disk 6 here).

I think it's going to be repeated from the 31st of March looking at Sci-fi's site (along with Eva), but after that i wouldn't hold any hopes for more anime from Sci-fi as they seem to be getting out of anime :(

Sci-fi are also repeating Nadesico (thursday march 4th) and BGC2041 (friday march 5th i think) starting next week.

Ahhhh, my first post in the new 'General Anime questions thread' {number 2?** and... I haven't watched ANY anime since our last thread! I've been going through my whole collection in age order. From 1935 and I'm now upto 1982. The anime comes after. I can't wait to watch Evangelion again!

I've got an idea for the thread. Has anyone been on the amateur/novice anime thread at the HTF? If not, the thread is designed for newbies basically and everybody votes for what they think would be a good anime for someone getting into it and all the recommendations are put in a table on the first page.
Over on this forum a month doesn't pass, maybe shorter then that, before somebody posts a thread outside of this one asking for anime recommendations or what is the best so and so anime so I think a similar recommendations table would be helpful to have on our thread too. That way maybe all anime talk will come through this one thread and make it more busy.

I think we should all post our top 5 features and our top 5 OVA/T.V shows in rank order and then we could have two tables of what we all think is the best. Anybody wanna do this?

No, Banner of the Stars is the sequel to Crest of the Stars. Banner of the Stars II is the next sequel. It's a little confusing but it's based on how the novel series (which the anime is based on) was named.

The order of the series, sequentially, is Crest (13 eps), then Banner (13 eps), then Banner II (10 eps).

Banner II disc 3 (the last) also includes the Passage of the Stars: Birth OVA, which is a nice episode focusing on Lafiel's parents.

And all series rock very much indeed.

Agreed

COTS/BOTS are criminally underappreciated by most of anime fandom IMO; they deserve to be as popular as Eva, Cowboy Bebop etc. Some of the best, most intelligent space opera and sci-fi around, in any format. They just need to get round to animating the rest of the novels

Is anybody here watching Mezzo DSA at the moment? I've finally started watching it as they've been sat on my PC for a while now and it's excellent, plenty of action and it's very funny as well. I also ordered the OAV last night that it originates from, Mezzo Forte. I made sure I ordered the uncut version though, it has lots of naughty bits in it  The TV version isn't though, although Mikura is a very bouncy girl, gotta love females in orange rubber :luv: :luv:

I've seen the first ep of Mezzo DSA and thought it was ok but not nearly as good as the OVA, which has probably the best action I've seen in anime. It really is stunning, the sex scenes are also very well animated , although they don't fit into the story at all.

I'm going to watch the next couple of eps which I've got as I still have hope that they will give me a reason to pick this up when ADV releases the dvds.

Im definately getting the DVD's when ADV release it as I'm hooked. Looking forward to getting Maburaho when they bring that out as well, hopefully nearer the end of the year for that if Newtype is correct.

Have to say I love CD Japan :) Received the first volume of Kimi ga Nozomu Eien Limited Edition yesterday and as well as the DVD itself (plus the artbook which is why it's LE), I also received some extra goodies:

2 x plastic folders with Kiminozo artwork on them
1 x huge poster of Haruka from Kiminozo

I was going to just stick it up on my wall with blu-tak, but it's so nice I think I might see about getting it framed properly :)

Even better, no customs charge even though the box was huge and the correct price was on.

Looking forward to volume 2, made sure I pre-ordered this one right away as the first pressing comes with a box to hold all 7 DVD's in the series.

No subtitles as it's a Japanese R2 release, but that's what fansubs are for

That relatively common for the bigger releases of Vol 1 disks from some of the smaller Japanese online stores - I've got a (huge) Chobits poster, clear file and postcard lying around somewhere from Amotokyo when Chobits was first released on R2 :)

Hi,

I finished watching Cowboy Bebop (the movie) and it was very good. I like all the characters, they're funny and there's some excellent action scenes (the monorail scence sticks in my head). The music was good as usual too,

Can you please help me decide what to watch next. I want something which is not too intense (Akira for example). Looking at Play.com they have some Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 dvd's in the 2 for £22...these sound like my cup of tea because they have action, comedy, bouncy girls, robots and good music!

Should I get the first two BC volumes?

Another question...I really enjoyed Tenchi Myuo when I had Sky, any ideas where if I can get it on DVD?

Julesy
04-03-2004, 15:28
I really liked BGC2040. As you say it's got "action, comedy, bouncy girls, robots and good music!". I haven't seen the original series so didn't go into 2040 with any prejudices or preconceptions of what it should be like, which might have increased my enjoyment.

All the old Tenchi series (OAV 1 & 2, Universe & Tokyo) and movies have been out on US R1 for ages so just get them from the list of retailers on the 1st page. GXP, which is a new series focusing on the Galaxy Police that aired in Japan last year, should be released in the west sometime this year. The 3rd OAV series is being released (slowly) in Japan at the moment so it might be a while till it reaches these shores.

I could be wrong but I think R4 is the cheapest option.

If you want the R1 Blood Bag & figures you're going to have to do some searching though.

According to Multiregion DVD PriceCheck, the R1's from DVD Pacific are the cheapest. They also have stock of the Vol.1 box with the bloodbag.

According to dvdprice check the cheapest boxset is from dvdcrave, then atlantic dvd!

Although once you see the bloodbag you'll want the R1 boxset.

Dengeki Animanga is meant to be quite good, haven't read it myself as I get Megami and am happy with that. You can pick it up from HobbyLink Japan. I might order myself Volume 8 though as it has Mitsuki and Haruka from Kiminozo on the cover :)

I ordered it, the lure of the Kiminozo girls was to much. Now got my fingers crossed that Akane-chan is inside :) If I like this mag I may get it as well as Megami, hopefully JList do the same sort of subscription service as they do with Megami. Started getting Megami after I knocked Newtype USA on the head, mainly because Newtype USA is crap. If I want upto date anime news I'll go to AOD or Anime News Network, if I want pictures of semi clad anime girls, I'll stick with Megami :luv: :luv: :luv:

Saber

I think G-Type has more than semi clad anime....i would link to it but there are...topless pics...but just do a search in google for g-type, it should be the 3rd one from the top.

I think i must have got Newtype and G-type confused.

If i were to use jlist and subscribe to megami......what kind of packaging does it come in? :p don't wont my mom to see it

Saber - been doing some digging about G-Type and it seems that JList used to list it but not anymore. However, someone on the AOD forums still get's it from them via subscription so I'm going to send them an email when I get home. The actual magazine is all about hentai, so I'm very interested in getting this to go alongside Megami and, if I decide to keep getting it, Dengeki Animaga.

Keaton is a fantastic show. Almost all of the same staff are working on a new show called Monster which is airing in Japan soon, based on a manga by the same author as Keaton. The manga version of Monster is absolutely stonkingly good stuff, and if they pull of as good an adaption of the show as they did with Keaton then it'll be fantastic stuff.

Just a quick question guys....

A while ago I read of a special edition of all of the released Hellsing's, and I think it was an asian release (so either R3 or jap R2).

I've searched, and can't find any information, and I suppose its possible I am making things up in my head. If any of you know what I'm going on about, could you please point me in the right direction? Cheers

i think there was an R3 Limited Edition release of Hellsing that came with a pair of replica guns based on Alucard's guns from the series.

Is anyone at the/going to the Minami Con (http://www.minamicon.org.uk/) in Southampton?

On the subject of what we're watching, well, I haven't been watching anything with much consistency lately. Fansub-wise I'm keeping up with Prince of Tennis, 112 episodes in and i'm still enjoying it. The only other series I've been watching regularly are Planetes and Jubei 2. The former is simply wonderful and ranks as one of my favourite series in a long time, the latter is pretty similar to the first only with a new bolder look and the wackiness turned up several notches.

On the DVD side i've only really been keeping up with those titles I'm reviewing, so the stuff I buy (Bandai series mainly) isn't being watched (but then it rarely is!). L/R, Someday's Dreamers, GTO and Lain along with a few others.

Finished watching Somedays Dreamers last night, a fantastic finish to a fantastic show. Hats off to ljp for recommending it to me. After I've watched Dawn of the Dead Divimax tonight, going to watch Super GALS Volume 5 then the first volume of Galaxy Angels.

As for Planetes, I agree with kanedaa, it's fantastic. The sooner it get's an R1 release (hopefully Bandai, especially with it being Sunrise) the better. I'm also reading the manga and the anime is so different, but they are both excellent.

I just got Galaxy Angel Box Set yesterday (Will get around to watching it one day). Just completed the Full Metal Panic series (Only watched the first episode) the other day now just got to complete Witch Hunter Robin and Final Fantasy Unlimited.

Does anybody know when Full Metal Alchemist is coming out on US Dvd? Watched the first 4 on fansubs and like it a lot (Just got to get the rest of em)

You've not finished ST4 yet? Pffffft, Mysterious Paris is out on PS2 this month!

(I'm one to talk, I've not finished PS2 ST1 yet, though I did finish the game on Dreamcast...).

I've kind of been put off the ST TV anime by stories of how much its meant to suck, and I wasn't particularly keen on the episode on Newtype. I should probably get it for geek value being an ST junkie, but with so much else coming out its hard to justify it...

Last Exile. I liked Kiddy Grade and all, but Last Exile really is in a different class altogether.

As for Full Metal Alchemist, good question. Last I heard a couple of months ago was that Square Enix (as in the games company behind Final Fantasy, etc), who publish the Full Metal Alchemist manga, the recent PS2 game, ungodly amounts of merchandising and are probably the shows Japanese license holder (of this I'm not 100% certain, but they are the main sponser at least) were holding marketing focus groups in the US to judge consumer reaction to the whole franchise (by making them watch an episode of the TV show raw, and play the PS2 game in Japanese...). Given that its currently one of Square Enix's biggest money makers in Japan I very much doubt that, if they don't decide to handle it themselves, it'll come to any licensor cheaply.

Basically, don't hold your breath. We'll probably see it eventually, but not especially any time soon.

Regarding Full Metal Alchemist, someone over on the AOD forums found out that Funimation has registered the URL for the show. Whether that means they are either trying to get it or have got it is another matter, but it is interesting.

As for Kiddy Grade or Last Exile, as much as I enjoy Kiddy Grade my nod goes to Last Exile, it really is in a class of it's own.

Last Exile looks great from what i've seen of it so far, i bought it blind on the recommendation of various people and have loved it so far.

As Gunbuster says the figure that comes with the Collectors edition is very nice, i've got my one sitting on my TV (next to the Black Escaflowne and a GITS:SAC figure).

If you can't get the R1 collectors edition and want the figure i think the R4 has the same figure (and you could use the R4 box to hold the R1 DVD's if you wanted;) )

I think ********* can still get the LE boxset of Last Exile. £24.99 I think, everywhere was sold out but they managed to get ine for me. Tis worth it, best anime I have seen for a while. I would check out RahXephon if you haven't already done so.

Noir is okay, the first volume was good but it kinda dragged and tailed off until the last two volumes where it picked up suspense. I would give it 6.5/10. The animation in places is abit simplistic and basic in approach I think.

I paid a visit to the Minami Con (http://www.minamicon.org.uk/) today courtesy of ADV who provided me with a pass so I could stop by and meet their representatives. It was quite an interesting experience, loads of otaku in a respectable looking Hotel, cosplayers, screenings (mostly fansubs) and a dealers area where you could buy all manner of grey imports including some incredibly overpriced R1 titles.

If you're like me (shy) then to really enjoy the event and survive the weekend I'd say you're better off with a friend or two, as pretty much everyone there seemed to be part of a group of friends who'd got together for the weekend. It was certainly an eye-opener though, very strange but also cool to see just how into the whole otaku thing fans from the UK are.

I came away with some nice freebies (posters and flyers) and two superb looking wallscrolls that set me back more than I'd have liked (£34 the pair) but when you see them hanging in all their glory it's just impossible to resist. There were also some nice looking Love Hina Xmas special figures going for a quite reasonable £11 each on the Archonia stand, but I passed on those as I have run out of room for anything like that.

New trailer for Appleseed is now up, Direct Link (17.6mb WMV) (http://www.a-seed.jp/trailers/mov/yokoku_2_2000k.wmv).

There is also a MPG rip of the Boom Boom Satellites music video for this available on torrents, but I'm not sure if I can post the link for that.

Well the trailer said 17/4 (2004) but thats in Japan i'd guess

The soundtrack appears to be mostly Western dance artists (Okenfold and Basement Jaxx are mentioned on the trailer ) so i'd expect a good chance of a UK cinema release (and they showed it at the ICA a short while ago so a subbed print must exist)

Not sure if anyone is interested in this, but last nights Season 8 premiere of South Park saw the kids purchase ninja weapons and the whole show drift off into an 'anime' style to show how their imaginations perceived their playtime with their new 'toys'.

The look was more akin to a videogame/anime crossover with a strong influence obviously coming from Streetfighter 2, while the actual quality of animation was still typical South Park (very restricted movement etc) but they did it really well IMO. In particular I loved the battle sequence that featured a song in Japanese with a dash of English, subtitled in Japanese for the Japanese lyrics, and English for the English lyrics.

Some screens for you...

What I think would be a good idea is if this thread went in the style of the Korean thread. Regular postings of reviews for new series' and films with screenshots. Obviously that means more participation from everyone but I think that would attract more people in. I dunno really, maybe people just tend to not see the sticky at the top of the page.

I think re-designing the thread like the Korean Film thread is an excellent idea. It'll allow newbies and the occasional anime watcher (like me) easy access to content on the this thread.

But as Splinter points out it'll take alot of work to set up and maintain.

Abhisara
27-03-2004, 14:57
I also think people tend to miss sticky threads especially if they don't regularly have the "new post" icon beside them. Well I do anyway :D.

Splinter has a good idea though. Someone could post a short review/description of a series or movie they've seen, say what's currently available on DVD and recommend other series which have a similar style (a question which is often asked). Links could be added in the first post like in the K-movie thread.

Does anyone else want to have a crack at something like this as a trial ;)? I'd be prepared to make the odd contribution :).

Definately get it then at that price, and keep your R2 as well because of the Making of Documentary, it's not subbed on the Korean edition. I got rid of my R2 without thinking, will buy it again next time it's on sale in HMV.

Wow, my first post on the new thread - although to be fair our PC has been broken for the past two weeks :|

Bobert, as much as I liked Escaflowne the movie I thought the TV series was much better. It's such a sprawling story that the movie lost a lot of the characterisation and charm for me. I think Bandai have repriced both the movie and the TV series recently so I'd probably suggest forking out $10 for the first DVD of the TV series and take it from there.

I enjoyed Jin Roh although I did find it quite hard going - although that might have been more to do with watching it in a huge echoy room at Otakon (dubbed) and not really being able to follow most of the dialogue because of the awful acoustics. I keep on meaning to buy it but it keeps slipping down my puchase list as other things come out !

Jin-Roh is excellent IMO. The first time I watched it I found it slow and uneventful - mainly because i had a preconception it was going to be an all out action fest.

On my second and third vewing, my views about the film was totally reversed. I'd give it 4/5.

I'll give another  to Jin-Roh as well, a very thought provoking anime with a healthy dose of violence mixed in with a very good story. If your not overly fussed about extras and want to save a few quid then the R3 Hong Kong version isn't a bad release, it's the one I've got and can't find much to fault about it, plus it only cost me a fiver so I can't complain.

Dont watch Escaflowne the Movie but invest a little time and money and get Escaflowne the tv show. Its such a fantastic story with brilliant characters you'll be sadly disapointed if you watch the Movie before hand.

Jin_roh is quite a thoughtful short story. The art and design of the show is superb as is the soundtrack but I'm not convinced its something you'd return to.

If you like Escaflowne you could also try something like Princess Nine maybe?

I bought that R3K release hoping to replace the R1. The actual disc is identical in terms of extras (only the included trailers are different) but for me the R1 has the better transfer. The difference is negligible to say the least but as I was deliberately comparing them side by side I could see a difference and the R1 had the edge.

Hi guys,

I posed this message in the main movie thread, but someone recommended me post it here instead:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi

Im just beginning to get into the whole anime scene, and I currently own Akira, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away (which is shipping its way to me as we speak from play.com). I have never seen Spirited Away, but I am quite looking forward to seeing it after all the rave reviews, and its Oscar win.

I have an 8 year old brother, I'm 21 this year and I would love to see more superb movies from the land of the rising sun. Preferably movies with English dubs so my brother can understand it, and DVD's that are avaliable in R2.

PS: I downloaded Grave of the Fireflies, but does anybody know if/when the R2 DVD will be coming out?

Cheers

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Basically what I am after are classic films from Japan's anime selection that are avaliable in R2 (UK) and preferably have an English dub. Cheers. :dork:

Brian Blessed Badger
30-03-2004, 22:10
Well there are a couple of other UK R2 Studio Ghibli discs, both of which I think would be suitable for both of you and your brother - Kiki's Delivery Service and Laputa - I think that the subtitles are dubtitles (where they have just subtitled the dub rather than the actual Japanese track), but if you're going to listen to the dub then thats not a problem

I watched 'robotech' in the '80s with my older sisters and didn't realize that a cartoon could almost be a soap opera. later on of course I realized that 'star wars' was a space opera so it all made sense.

I've seen the boxsets being sold here and there, but everytime I go to purchase the first in the series a new one comes out that is re-mastered. someone tell me when or if I should put down some money on this series.

Well, I'd probably get thee Remasted editions if you really desire the show, though I'm not sure they are going beyond the Macross saga bit for those releases (since they are probably using Animeigos nice Macross remasters for it).

That said, if you don't mind subtitles, I'd go for Animeigos uncut, subtitled and beautifully remasted release of the original Japanese version of Macross (the first, and best, third of what was rewritten to become "Robotech", which is actually an odd amalganation of three different shows). I think ADV are releasing/have released unedited Japanese versions of the rest of Robotech as well, which are no doubt much nicer or something.

Anyone watched Haibane Renmei? Any opinions??

Haibane Renmei is great - slow, atmospheric but great.

It's something a bit different to most anime i've seen, i was a bit put off at first because it was slow (and left getting disk two until disk 3 was out), but once i sat down and watched the second disk i was pretty much hooked, i loved the ending how it tied up some of the loose ends, i must admit i had half guessed Reki's past but it was still good.
The music was very fitting for the series as well (i love the opening peice).

Thoughts on Henmei:

I assume the town they live in a something akin to Limbo? All the Haibane are people who have ended their life in a incorrect way (IE suicide). When they have achieved salvation they leave and depending on how you look at things go to Heaven or re-incarnation etc.

A few things I cant explain

Why are there Humans in the town? Why are they trapped there by the wall. Did I miss a significance with the clock tower.

Another fan of Haibane here. Love the mystical atmosphere and it's interesting as the world unfolds and you get to explore. I bought Vol.2 last year when it was released but since then, due to other expenses, I haven't picked up the last two :brickwall

Hope I can remedy that soon.

Forgot to mention the Texhnolyze box - It's rather gorgeous :D

Now that i think of it, I wish the Haibane Renmei box had adopted a similar style with Abe's artwork. It looks a bit bland sitting next to the Tex' box. Although I guess the simple artwork adds to the theme of the series.

Will watch Texnolyze tonight and if I'm not feeling too lazy, try and stick a review up of vol1 & box

The dub is alright, no amazing by any means, but alright. I've heard better dubs with no-name actors though.

Favourite Ghibli movie is definately Porco Rosso, then maybe Whisper of the Heart.

I'll probably pick up the next lot of R1 Ghibli's as they were just announced recently.

Tbh before I saw Spirited Away I wasn't really interested in any of the Ghibli stuff as my taste in anime was mostly comedy/romance/action/sci-fi. However after seeing SA I was pleasantly surprised so am willing to give some of the others a shot.

At least it doesn't suffer from that horrible English anime dubbing where the voices seem to remain at the same pitch for the entire sentence.;)

Mmmmm, toys....

Errr, I'm feeling in a generous mood today (probably something to do with not having to go to work for the next five days  ) and as such have decided to give away some of my duplicate capsule and trading toys. Ain't I nice?

So, next four to reply can have one of the following sets...

4 GITS:SAC trading figures (the two freestanding Motoko ones and the Batou and Togusa ones pictured here (http://www.hlj.com/images/ban/ban920120.jpg) - the one with the car and the one with the robot are really tiny anyway).

3 Ikki-Tousen trading figures (the two Sonsaku Hakafu and the jumping Ryomou ones here (http://www.hlj.com/images/epo/epo59557.jpg) - these look MUCH nicer in real life than the pictures. And, yes Gunbuster, the panties are clearly visable).

Sakura Taisen/Sakura Wars capsule toys (these six (http://www.hlj.com/images/ban/ban918015.jpg) - a little smaller and cheapier than the other stuff, but I do love my ST.)

2 Onegai Twins trading figures (Mizuho and the girl kneeling down at the bottom of this picture (http://www.hlj.com/images/cms/cms65005.jpg) - the Mizuho one comes with a nice stand like the one with the Last Exile LE Alvis which could be used for other toys, though the Mizuho one is pretty nice in itself).

First to post gets first choice and so on.

(open to UK posters only, though that seems to cover all of us in here...)

(EDIT - You may have to visit the main HLJ site before it'll allow you to look at those pictures...)

I tend to order them when I get my monthly copy of Megami from Hobby Link Japan as I don't like the idea of just ordering a single magazine from Japan. HLJ only sell capsule toys in random boxes of ten though, and trading figures either in 10s or as a single random one (they are normally sealed in a box in a solid black or white bag), so you tend to have to be lucky to get a whole series that way, hence why I have ones to give away.

That said, if there is a whole range of capsule toys I'm really desperate to get ahold of (like the Sakura Taisen ones - the ones I'm giving away I was sent by mistake) I'll get them from somewhere like Jungle SCS (ace second hand Japanese CD and DVD store) who will sell a complete set for around the cost of a random box of ten, plus it gives me an excuse to pick up some random cheap CDs (got the Xenosaga OST in practically mint condition for 800yen today because it was missing the Obi  ).

Of course, there is always eBay, but as with anything anime related you need to be wary of bootlegs.

As for shops selling them in Japan, well, there are tons upon tons of these toy ranges released in Japan all the time (Bandais capsule toy website alone lists more than 20 new series for this month alone, and equally for last month when I picked up these (http://www.bandai.co.jp/gashapon/neco_item/item/4543112232830000.html)).

BTW, Gunbuster, there are a couple of really nice Evangelion sets out at the moment...

No takers on the OneTwi figures? The Mizuho one really is pretty nice...

Yeah, stuff tends to get hard to find pretty quickly (alas, I've yet to get Bandais first HGIF Sakura Taisen series, which had my favourite character, Ci Caprice, in it).

Apparently there are quite a few stores in the geekier districts of Japanese cities who buy in bulk and just open and bundle sets together like Jungle do, so they might possibly have some of the older sets in (admittedly probably with a hefty markup). Then there are stores which are nothing but toy capsule machines...

Not sure if there was much, if anything, in the way of LE or WR stuff released (I'm not sure they were popular enough in Japan - WR at least had a really late timeslot), but I defineately remember seeing a set of Cowboy Bebop movie capsule toys on a collectors website somewhere. A lot of these series tend to be robots (lots of Gundam, Macross and collections of Production Company 'A's robot heroes) rather than the character toys us foreign fanboys like.

Cool op too!

What's it all about, was thinking of grabbing it to try but I'm currently grabbing the first 26 episodes of Full Metal Alchemist :)

Midori no Hibi seems like a good one too.

I've got this queued up to download, along with This Ugly and Beautiful World :) Only wish I had time to watch them, I've still got the entire series of Gilgamesh to watch.

I finished watching Maria-sama ga Miteru the other night, that was such a fantastic series, the second season starts this Autumn, really looking forward to it. I've got the Collectors Edition DVD on order at CD Japan which is released in May, contains the first 2 DVD volumes (eps 1-3) and it comes in an LP sized cover so that should be interesting.

Jungle have three sets list at the moment -- the nicest looking ones are the Bandai HGIF series one (http://jungle-scs.co.jp/cgi-bin/goods.php?lang=1&type=inv&detail=15550&cat=GASHAPON&keyword=) and series two (http://jungle-scs.co.jp/cgi-bin/goods.php?lang=1&type=inv&detail=16370&cat=GASHAPON&keyword=), but there is also a Kaiyodo & Movic (http://jungle-scs.co.jp/cgi-bin/goods.php?lang=1&type=inv&detail=15484&cat=GASHAPON&keyword=) set.

Its a fighting show. The manga version of Ikkitousen ripped off the manga version of TenTen pretty mercilessly in places, and the anime version of TenTen looks like it'll be better than Ikkitousen was. Less fanservice thus far (still plenty of panty shots, etc), but the manga version of TT is pretty explicit in places...

I loooooove the Full Metal Alchemist, episode 25 is a real tearjerker....

I don't like the Kaiyodo & Movic ones, but the Bandai one's are fantastic. They are also the one's I always keep seeing on Ebay and everytime I go to Buy The Now someone always beats me to them :) What's the shipping prices like from this place?

I paid 1500y shipping for a CD and two Gashapon sets a few months a ago, though you should note they also add 10% to the cost of international orders. I though that was reasonable, but it was also by Small Packet Air (3-5 days! Ace!) - I think they give you cheaper options like SAL if you really want to go for them. I've had cheaper shipping from them since then, but they've been uniformally 1 gashapon set + 2 CDs at a time, so perhaps not comparable.

As I say, they also stock 2nd hand CDs and DVD, and its well worth having a browse through their stock now and again.

I really do wonder why they decided to change Natsume Ayas hair to that blondish colour rather than the black hair she has in the manga. I also wonder why Bob doesn't get a name card in the OP (despite Oh! Greats insistance he is one of the main characters, despite the fact that he and Nagi don't appears for three whole volumes of the manga off the bat...).

I also wonder how they'll get around the sex and the occasional rape appearing in the manga in a TV anime...

Still, judging by the OP sequence, they are going to get as far as animating the Bowling Alley fight, and if they keep up the animation quality that is going to be flat out awesome.

Geneon USA are credit as co-producers - I really wouldn't be surprised to see a US DVD release commencing around the tail end of the year, probably right after the last volume of Ikkitousen.

The Oh! Great thing had me scratching my head for a while, but it turns out it comes from the actual pronounciation of his proper name, he just decided to romanise a bit differently :)

Argh just when I thought I had got all my new anime sorted, out comes these.

Monster (heards lots of good things about the manga)

Shura no Toki (had not even heard of this but the picture looks cool as i liek samurai!!1111)
http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/syuratoki/

Kenran Butoh Sai (looks escaflowneish, and made by bones)

Then there is also Samurai 7 and Samurai Champloo and no doubt more that I don't know about.

The first episode of Monster was a fantastic adaption of the manga. If they keep the quality up it'll be REALLY good.

You're a bit off the mark with Kenran - its kind of a slightly retro-ish robot series about pirates on a terraformed Mars. First episode was alright, need to see a few more to decided.

Samurai 7 is a Seven Samurai remake from Gonzo.

Samurai Champloo is the new series from Shinichiro "Cowboy Bebop" Watanabe, so is going to be interesting to say the least...

Saber

Yes yes I know all that :p

Kenran - I only saw one pic and it just looked a bit escaflowne like, but then I read a review, I was completely wrong

Shura no toki had a good first ep, it has Miyamoto Musashi in it as well

I can't say I'm particularly hyped about it either to be honest - I don't really get psyched up about any forthcoming anime until I start watching it, at which point if I like it I'll rapidly become very obsessive indeed...

Still, on the basis of past works (I really liked his Animatrix stuff) and what I've seen in magazines and the like, I do think it is at least interesting even if not as epoch making as Bebop was.
