Has anybody heard any rumblings about this classic film coming to DVD? Would it be pointless to bring it to DVD in your opinion (too knackered by time)
It would be cool to get a limited edition boxset of The Hustler and The Colour of Money, thats my tuppence worth anyway.

thats really great news about the special edition, i'm dead chuffed about that.
Think I'll wait for a boxset or double pack or something...
cheers for the quick reply jonathan

Zero likelihood of a double pack as they’re from two different studios. At least with Fox doing The Hustler we’ll get a decent presentation with good extra features.

I couldn't agree more, how many takes do you think it took for Paul Newman to make some of those pots! Hopefully there are some insightful extras.

I don't reckon it was that hard for him to learn the shots, just think all those muppets on the BBC Snooker show do it.

hi there from venice
yes, this thread is quite ancient, but it's useless to open a new one just for this simple question:
anybody so kind and take a look at the back cover of his/her dvd, and check whether the uk version of 'the hustler' has the italian track included?
I mean this version http://www.playserver4.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=104304&p=57&c=&g=72
pls do not post the url of dvdcompare...
already been there and it's totally unreliable as far as the languages are concerned...
many thanks in advance ;)
Yes, it has french and italian 2.0 mono sound and subtitles

Can I assume the current UK release is a fine buy?
Rewind lists all regions as basically the same.
I won't find there's to be a new suped-up edition if I buy this now am I? Looks like a pretty decent SE as it is!

I know Warners have a Paul Newman boxset on the way, but as this is a Fox title, don't think it'll be superseded anytime soon. pretty good dvd as it as anyway, as you say, fantastic film....
saying all that though, the R1 does seem to be OOP, at DVDPacific (http://www.dvdpacific.com/?ref=dvdtimes) and Amazon.com (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/thedvdforums-20) anyway...
hmm.....

I have heard rumours of a computer colourised version. I normally don't like such conversions, but it might work with this film, if true. Can anyone throw light on this?
Oh god! :gag: NO NO NO NO NO! :nono:
It won the Oscar for it's BLACK & WHITE cinematography ffs! Respect is due.

You can purchase it as part of the Paul Newman Collection from Fox. But you get The Verdict and the first release of Butch Cassidy as well.

The Fox UK website is showing The Hustler as coming in their 'Cinema Reserve' line in September, so no doubt a 'Cinema Classics' will follow in R1; don't know how much better it will be, there are no details up yet. BTW, while we're on Newman, the BBFC has just cleared some decent looking extras for what looks like an R2 SE of The Verdict.
Well I just bought the current edition so true to form that means a new SE is on the way!
Cinema Reserve is due out September 4thh
Is it any different from the previous release?

Newman might be famous for his blue eyes, but that cover makes him look like an alien :suspect:
