My only negative comment is the sheer expense of this given the lack of extras.

I think I've ended up paying £34 for this and that's with a voucher as well (damn Amazon not helping by shipping through a route that ended up with a customs charge).

Normally I'm very happy with Criterions due to the sheer quality of the extras along with the print. Okay, a good print is nice, but I generally want to know a bit of backgroun behind the making of the film, although this one does have a commentary.

Would the question "why on earth did you pay that much for it?" be tactless?

You shouldn't have to pay more than £25 for it at ********* - which has been my Criterion supplier for months now.

Don't know with *********, I've never tried them since the days of their non-online ordering and wasn't too impressed in those days, but then that was a long time ago. Just never think to try them.

I did look around elsewhere, but couldn't find it much cheaper. Even used a voucher to get it that price! A case of 'must buy it' and clicking before thinking. Wasn't expecting that customs charge though (even the post office appologised for it, saying "I'm really sorry about this, it's customs you see". Seemed to be shocked I got charged on such a small package). Oh well.

Just had another Criterion shipped from Amazon, but thankfully it was cheaper due to being a pre-order, still... customs :(

A certain shop in London sells Criterion discs for £40.

£34 seems like a bargain in comparison to that!

I was going to buy one recently, thought I'd like it there and then for once, but no way would I ever pay that.

I've just had my first 2 customs charges (in one week) after almost 2 years of Internet shopping -- they must be stepping up.

About a fortnight after it was announced that is was going OOP, the Silence of the Lambs Criterion was £100 in there, that's correct one hundred pounds !!!!!:eek:

About to purchase this film - does everyone agree the Criterion release is the one to go for? Not bothered on extras, just a good clean print and good sound.

PS - Can we move this to the classic forum :thumbs:

Criterion doesn't have the best picture quality, but you'll have to buy a boxset to get that....

The best thing to do is use the Report Post function to bring it to the attention of the mods.

The Criterion version is missing a shot of a maid bending over in the hotel, oo-err missus :D

The German boxset version is uncut :thumbs:

I can't help feeling that someone - Granada, Optimum, Network (or a combination of all three) - is prepping something special right now for Hitchcok fans.

Am trying to find a reasonable price for the R1 Signature Collection but failing miserably.

I also had the German Uncut box set on there as well for £30 but I took it off due to lack of interest.

I recently bought the Criterion The Lady Vanishes whilst browsing in FNAC in Lisbon, where I found it priced at under £10!

Wonder if we'll see all the Studio Canal transfers from the excellent German and French sets.
Still a few missing films in good quality transfers though, namely The Pleasure Garden, Easy Virtue, Juno and the Paycock and Waltzes in Vienna.
