Sky news says

There has been an explosion at London's Liverpool Street Station, according to reports.

It is understood the blast was caused by two trains colliding on the Metropolitan Line between Liverpool Street and Aldgate, a power cut or a power cable exploding.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."

British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".

King's Cross, Liverpool Street, Stratford and Aldgate stations have also been cleared.

They DO have power though. I am watching live pictures now and every station they have shown is lit and the eyewitnesses say there was no power failure :?:

Knowing how busy the trains would be that time of day, any sort of collision coupled with panic from lights going out will result in many injuries - two people have called London Live that were on the train and they reported power was out for 10 mins.

I'm really hoping this has been an unfortunate accident but there is now a cabbie on the phone reporting people going into Aldgate East with chemical suits on - apparently standard practise but

Whatever has happened it's  to see the emergency services getting mobilised so quickly.

too early to say what's happened but station power (platform lights etc) is taken from supplies local to each station, train power is taken from a small number of national grid hookups at various points on the network, and all the trains have good emergency lighting batteries for when the power through the rails fails, so that does add up ok for me.

watching Sky News the emergency services are building tents at various stations.

And Bob Crow is an idiot, less than an hour after the incident and all he can do is rant about London Underground being evil, when noone even knows what's happened yet. :oh-hum:

Why bother with Sky News, when you can have the BBC? Sky are as bad as Fox with their sensationalist reporting, IMHO.

No one but Sky is reporting a bus exploding.

Casualties are bound to happen in this sort of thing. People will panic and want to get out of the tube system, no matter what. This will mean people are knocked to the ground, muscled out of the way, etc...
If you've been in the tube for any amount of time, you'll know all about the amount of crap that get gets into your nose and your lungs. People have been reported as smashing windows to get out of the trains.

I'm willing to bet it's nothing like a terrorist bomb.

I'm still not sure about the undergroud having a bomb on it. Surely it would have made a bigger, more obvious explosion. Same goes for the bus explosion. It has apparently only blown off the roof of the bus. Now from watching footage of other bombs going off. The IRA, suicide bombers in Iraq, etc.. it seems to me that these bombs were very minor.
Personally if it was a terrorist attack by a major terroris organisation they would have used bigger bombs.

Finally got into work - took me three hours. No signs of anything untoward at Cannon Street, Bank, anywhere along the Strand, Trafalgar Square, Charing X, or Victoria. In fact, apart from the fact the whole transport network's down and the roads are full of police cars, it's pretty normal looking. Nobody I know has seen anything coming into work. Certainly the bus network was fine 15 minutes ago when I got off one, if a bit full.

I really don't think it's down to people like this. We've seen that they don't mess about with their suicide bombs in Iraq, so if they wanted to make a statement in the UK, they would make damn sure they did more damage than this.
