View Full Version : Recommend a cheap gfx card for PES and PSX Emulation [please move mods to PES forum]
I need a new gfx card, but only really play a bit of PES or PSX Emulation every now and then.
What's the best gfx card in the £25-30 region? I know that's cheap but it's only for infrequent use.
Thanks.
EDIT: Must be fanless also.

If you want to run PES4 or 5, I think you're looking at a 6600 minimum tbh...
Depends how fussy you are re framerates.
PES 4 and just something reasonable/playable.... not really fussy. My brother wants a similar thing so we can play the odd match online, but we neither want to spend much. My PC is used for web design and writing music 99% of the time.
Would something like this do the job:

I'd advise posting in the gaming PES forum here, as there are loads of folks posting there who have gfx cards just on the border of acceptable so they should be able to help you I think.
Join up for next season while you're there ;)
Ah, didn't even know there was a PES forum!! Can a mod please move this?
I don't fancy getting my rear kicked by you lot, I've not even played PES4 yet as my card won't handle it ;)

Sorry I'm a dope! It's PES4!
I have a ATI radeon 9600 which you can get for about 30 quid on ebay. That runs PES4 at 1024x768 on highest detail, and is currently doing the same with PES5 demo.
And don't worry about being crap at pro Evo. You will be able to beat me no problem! :)

Sorry to hijack
What would you guys recommend on a slightly higher budget? How high, i'm not really sure
I currently have an X300, which seems to run the demo ok. I've cranked everything up to max and it runs. But suspect something with a bit more 'umph' might be needed for the full game.
I don't really play games on my pc, but do fancy playing PES5 on my PC. I don't own an xbox or ps2.
The rest of my pc spec is fine, P4 3.4 and 2gb of ram.
I bought a 6600GT for around a tonne and it plays PES4 a dream, 1280x768 (widescreen) with high detail and doesn't stutter in the slightest. A big  up from me.
In fact I bought the 6600GT soley for PES, don't play anything else on this machine

Thanks for the response Bolch, to be honest I plan on doing the same with my pc and pes :D
Was is a 128mb or 256mb card you got?
Oh and forgot to mention it will have to be a PCIE card.

Get one of those fanless 6600GT's - Gigabyte model - sublime piece of kit - have one in my HCPC.
...though I have a 7800GTX in my gaming PC, and not surprisingly, it barely breaks into a sweat with PES :D Depends if you want to spunk 350+ on a GFX card though....the 6600GT is about 130 I think.

I could blow that much cash, but don't really want to just for one game  But would like something which I can crank everything up to max and it handles it for fun :D
Any recommendations where to purchase from?
It was the 128 I got, and yeah it's PCI-e.
I got mine from Scan, but like Aria, Microdirect, eBuyer etc etc. They're all in terms of price/delivery alright but all as ***** as each other should it develop a fault and you acutally need to use their customer service.

I'll have a look around the usual suspects then and see what I can find
Would be nice to be able to join in the forum leagues. Give me something to do in the evenings when I'm in. Always wanted to play PES, but could never be bothered to fork out for a PS2

Tekheads are excellent customer service wise - RMA's are sent out the day they receive them back, and you always get them next day, if in stock.
Class outfit - though you might pay a bit more.
So would the card from eBuyer I posted be able to handle PES4 at a reasonable level?

Not according to cockeye - his listed card, would be about the minimum I'd say.

I play pro evo with a Geforce Fx5600. I bought mine a couple of years ago and it's still running pro evo fine (including pes5 demo) but not at the highest rez.
Thanks guys I'll keep a look out on eBay for a cheap 9600

I didn't say that the card he linked to wouldn't do the job - I haven't got a clue!
I just said that my card does the job fine (although it's only been tested with the demo of PES5, not the full game)
